2013 TTW Awards: Winners List Thread

The best sportsman ship award with 39% of the votes goes to.... Juan Martin Del Potro :) Thoroughly deserved.

Not the most flattering pic of Juan Martin, MN

The best serve of 2013 award, with 46% of your votes goes to my fellow North Carolinian, sir John Isner. Congrats!

It is awesome that this thread has been made a sticky. Great effort from Mike. Lets make it an yearly tradition.

Yeah things are kinda dull in the off season, plus we can always look back and see new names and faces etc and sort of have a better way to remember each year. I like it. Thanks :)

Seconded!

MN, unless it's against the rules, next year you could have a secondary poll for TTW specific matters such as Best thread, Most epic fail, Award for outstanding achievents in the field of trolling, etc. :)

Great effort putting this together, mate. It's great to see sort of like a general overview of the season in one thread.

And the last award, Match of the year 2013: which came down to the wire, with a 3 vote separation is.... Djokovic v Wawrinka at the AO. :) I have to say, I will never forget the ending of this match or that morning, it's etched into my head and is of one of my favorite memories watching tennis. Great awards this year, looking forward to the next!!

Most important and match of the year: FO 14

Everything was on the line, Rafa's reign vs Djoker's time

Biggest chokes: Monfils, Simon and most of all Mayer for blowing Match points against Fed.

Biggest Comeback: Fed stomping everyone

Okay:

Best Bo5: Djoker/Stan AO 2014 QF (finally ended as it should have in 2013  )

Best Bo3: We could have a couple of good ones coming up, so I will reserve my judgement on this one for now.

Most disappointing player: Nadal would be my pick coming off his excellent 2013.

Most significant tournament victory: Stan winning the AO beating Djokodal on the way. That represented a changing of the guard, and set the tone well for 2014.

Best improvement on 2013: This is close between Federer and Nishikori. I give it to the Ninja.

Sportsmanship Award: Nishikori.

Best conquering of Slytherin: Federer Shanghai SF. He showed it how it is in that match

Most Improved: Federer or Lopez Federer back to the Top 2, Lopez achieves highest ranking at 33.

Best Young Talent U21: Kyrgios, Thiem or Coric - Kyrgios for me

Best Tournament: Wimbledon 2014

Shot of the year: Kyrgios Tweener

Shock of the year: Cilic USO - At Least Wawrinkas was sorta possible at the start of the AO.

Best Bo5: Nishikori - Wawrinka that game was beautiful

Best Bo5: Wimbledon final - obvious
Best Bo3: IW final - obvious
The player of the year: Djokovic - obvious
Most improved: Federer - obvious - sad testament of how weak in the new generation of players.
Sportsmanship award: Djokovic - giving point to Stepanek on W.

It feels awkward to even read Fed as the most improved player.

For the heights he took the sport, he is now a mere shadow of his former self.

These are my picks/nominations using the same categories as last year.

(moment of the year)- Wawrinka wins AO or Wawrinka defeats Djokovic at AO

(best forehand)- I think this should go to Federer this year

(most improved player)- Wawrinka, Cilic, Nishikori, maybe Dimitrov, RBA won this award on the ATP website btw.

(match of the year)- Djokovic vs. Federer Wimbledon

(worst sportsmanship)- 3 guesses and the first 2 don't count. Seriously, Fabio Fognini by a landslide

(best sportsmanship)- This one's tough. Maybe Federer, Robredo :), Nishikori, I don't know really

(biggest letdown player)- Rafael Nadal, easy one. Not completely unexpected but still easy

(most exciting masters)- Indian Wells, or Toronto, maybe MC? (if it counts)

(best 1handed BH)- Stan Wawrinka probably still wins this

(best 2handed BH)- Winner!- Novak Dokovic, or Kei Nishikori

(Best Serve)- Karlovic for that ridiculous Basel performance, Raonic, or Fed

(Slam of the year)- All of them could be nominated this year. I think I would pick Wimbledon just for the epic final, plus Nadal played it.

(Worst Masters)- Cincy, or Madrid. Probably Madrid.

Best moment of the year- Wawrinka wins AO

Best Forehand- Gulbis (first half), Raonic (Second half)

most improved player- Nishikori

(match of the year)- Djokovic vs. Federer Wimbledon

worst sportsmanship- Fabio Fognini

best sportsmanship- Robredo

biggest letdown player- Del Potro

(most exciting masters)- Shanghai

(best 1handed BH)- Stan Wawrinka

best 2handed BH- Winner!- Novak Dokovic

Best Serve- Raonic (1000+ aces this year)

Slam of the year- Wimbledon

Worst Masters- Madrid. ( No Fed , No Novak, Injured Kei)

I propose a new thread for this and please abolish the "worst" categories. There is already enough negativity here without arguing about the worst in something.

There will be new threads of course, this one is mainly so people can see the categories from the OP and do nominations.

Is this a dig at Federer or a lamentation over the fact that an already established player, rather than a young gun, could be considered the most improved player of the year? Were you hoping for a meteoric rise out of a young player, even perhaps at the expense of beating Djokovic?

Time to bump this now that the season is over. Would appreciate some volunteers or help because I don't have the time to do the whole thing alone again this year.
