Wow. what an incredible match. I feel so bad for delpo... what a warrier with a huge heart. Really hope he can add another slam soon and win simpleton one day. he has a shot at the uso, rg and wimby. not sure about ao. Performances like this remind you what a special player he is.

Novak with the dtlbh is such a different force to reckon with.

Hope it works better on Sunday.

All of this. I'm actually dumbfounded he was able to pull this one out with literally no confidence in his dtlbh, especially considering how frequently Delpo was goat'ing.

Novaks serve has been incredible so far.If his Back hand DTL is clicking as well it would be almost impossible to beat him.

the reason why DTL BH didn't click today was that he is well aware of Delpo's crushing FH Cross court would come back to bite him.

Not very many can pull it off like GOATro does consistently

True it has to come back for him to have a chance against Murray in Finals. otherwise he'll be in big big trouble.

Hez just lucky that Delpo's BH is not that good. Murray is a different type of monster, but he is still a monster!

As I predicted, Del Po loses a close one. He can usually really push the top guys, but has trouble winning the big matches. Although he's looking very good this year.

All right Novak D! Judging by the scoreline it looks like the fans got their money's worth. How many hours long was it?

From now on when Del Potro hits one of those running forehand missles, I'm going to call it

The Godzilla Forehand! :)

Long enough to be Del Potro's longest five set match. Coincidently, just last year on the very same court, he had his longest three match also.

Wimbledon Centre Court seems to bring out the epicness in Del Potro.

Congrats to N Djokovic on the win, his loss in the semi last year is undone, He will gain ATP points, so far 1200-720= 480,,if he wins 2000-720= 1280. Congrats to Del Potro on getting to the semi finals- he gets ATP points 720-last yr points. Del Po played very well, Nole had the answer in the fifth set.

He has no shot at RG. That is definitely Nadal and Djokovic territory for the forseeable future. He also doesnt have the fitness levels to win there. Wimbledon and the U.S Open are where his chances are if he is ever going to win another major somewhere.

He's better on grass than I think people think. I also think he plays it down on purpose.

Now if we could just count on him to get through an entire year injury-free ...

and like every other match, i had to miss it. coz working on every 2nd day has to overlap with djokovic playing every 2nd day.

I feel so sorry for DelPo. Those injuries have been plaguing his young career. I think he would've clinched at least one more major title if it wasn't for that year-long absence. In my opinion, he would turn the big four into the big five if he could go a few years without any major injuries. His shot-making is simply glorious when he's playing well.

That was some match. Good to see Del Potro back to playing some great tennis.

If he stays injury free for awhile he should get a little better as he gets used to being at this kind of level.

The knee was a concern but I didn't notice it bothering him at all.

Though I wanted my guy to win I was very happy with his play and how hard he fought. He left everything on the court. :)

That was the most intense match I've seen in awhile and I haven't been that emotionally invested in a match in some time either. Seeing Del Potro come up with the big shots under pressure on multiple occasions was inspiring. Too bad it seemed like he just ran out of gas in the 5th.

Credit is also due to Djokovic, who again outlasted his opponent in a long grueling match and played stellar himself.

Conditions for Del Potro beating Djokovic in a slam match couldn't have been any better; on hard or clay Djokovic isn't going to fall down as much or be off balance. This just shows that good defense will beat good offense on every surface. For a good offender to beat a good defender, the offense has to be totally astronomical and off the charts, even greater than the slugfest produced by Del Potro today.

Epic match but a horrible 5th set. DP just didn't have any gas left, and even though Nole played a pretty meh 5th set DP just didn't play at all.

DP has to improve his serve, its a really bad serve for his height and strength.

I disagree, delpo is one if the only players with a shot of hitting Nadal of a clay court and Nadal isn't getting any younger while delpo still has a few more years.

Also things change. Delpo was looked at as being useless on grass until recently - no one would have predicted his performances vs Nadal at wimby 2011, fed and djokovic last year at the Olympics and this year at wimby.

also you used to say federer's worst chance for a slam after rg was wimbledon. until he won it again and then you started saying it was his best chance for a slam again.

djokovic was the better player. he created more opportunities and was more stable throughout.

even with delpo's crazy comebacks, i never thought he would win against novak yesterday.

I wouldn't say all offense, but it does say that baseline ball bashers will always fall to the good defenders. To win against them you need more than rocket forehands, you need all court tennis.
