Didn't think Sousa stand a chance against Roger on grass but he took the first set!
I still think Nishikori beats Fed again if they meet.

If Federer returns as poorly as he did in the first set, why not? Anyone would stand a chance.

Looking much better now though.

Beautiful shot on BP.

Seems like Fed gets nervous trying to get the first break, but once he gets it he's more aggressive on coming BP chances.

Yeah he is always way too passive on BP's, waiting for his opponent to miss. Very strange as he usually sets them up by playing attacking tennis.

Not so sure about that. As far as I understand Federer played nothing special and still faced 0 break points. How would Nishikori win that set? As long as the serve is working, grass is very much Fed's domain.

Anyone got the net stats for Federer? It always annoys me the Live Score app doesn't show them; or W/UE for that matter.

Same as Sousa. Just hang around and hope to squeeze out that set in a tie-break. Federer's TB record isn't too good this year, unfortunately. May be lack of confidence or whatever.

Anyway, I think Federer should win against Nishikori of course.

Hey look! Ivo Karlovic is playing a tiebreaker! How novel. Didn't face a single breakpoint (just like Federer) but still lost the set (just like Federer). Lu still hasn't had a sniff at a breakpoint in this match.

Difference though, is that Federer can actually play tennis outside the serve while Karlovic wouldn't make top 1000.

Karlovic is trying to lose a match without ever having a breakpoint against him. Would this be a 1st? Interesting. And it's happened. 0 breakpoints for Lu but he takes it 7-6(2), 7-6(3). Crazy.

Can anyone explain to me why Raonic's game doesn't adapt well to grass? I'd be really interested to know.

Well, his movement is not very good, and it can get slippery on grass. Plus his return doesn't work as well on grass. Not that either of those are great anyway, but they become even worse on grass. Also, he's tall so if anyone slices to him and the ball stays low that causes automatic problems.

It seems backwards, but clay is a better surface for him because of a higher bounce. Also he gets more time to set his feet and his strokes because of the slower nature of clay as opposed to grass. And he can slide on clay if need be, but you can't do that as well on grass.

Thank you Steve, it's certainly a lot clearer to me now why he has such difficulties on the surface. So it's pretty safe to say Milos won't be winning Wimbledon any time soon then? :(

I was worried about Ivo against Roger so nice the way's cleared for him, although it would have been a good chance for him to practice his returning ;)

The fan confidence radiates.......

Karlovic is a match any fan would want their favorite player to avoid.

As a Nadal fan, I'd want him to avoid matches like that as much as possible. No feel for the ball or courts it's just a matter of how well they serve on the day and the one game per set they screw up can you take advantage and break? If not try your luck in a TB. No thanks.

Wow! Nadal falls to Dustin Brown in straights, second set a breadstick!

Coupled with Murray's straights set loss at Queens, that's 2 potential favourites for Wimbledon falling at the first or second hurdle in each of the two major warm-ups!

Probably not. Like I've said before, Raonic's time is the summer hard court season, for sure. My expectations for him are highest in Toronto/Montreal, Cincinnati and at the US Open.

I'm looking forward to Brown-Kohlschreiber and Federer-Nishikori (if they both make it).

Brown-Kohlschreiber should be very entertaining.

Nice Quarterfinals. Looking forward to the all of them but the Falla one. Would be a great test for Federer to play Nishikori here before Wimbledon, should be a good one. Would be amazing for Brown's ranking if he can make it to the final. Imagine if Brown were to face Federer in the final and beat him :shock::shock: I think Fed would take him though.
