Defending champion: Fabio Fognini (ITA)

Another clay-court tournament. Don't worry guys, it's almost over!!

Looks like every Spaniard sans Nadal has jumped at the opportunity here. As for the favourite, I'd usually say it's obviously Ferrer but he bombed out of Bastad to Berlocq so there are some questions about his form. Robredo and Verdasco also fell victim to much lower ranked players this week, although Verdasco did make the semifinals in Bastad.

Keep in mind this is a 500 event too and a former Masters. The top players will probably give this one more effort.

After Fognini's great win last season (He had a great clay court post Wimbly run last year) I think he won't retain his title ;)

My guesses are Roberto Bautista Agut or Delbonis...though you cannot write off Ferrer or Berlocq

Poll? I'm hoping for either Fognini to defend his title or Dolgopolov to win it. If those guys lose, I wouldn't mind seeing Verdasco or RBA win.

Woops, forgot. It'll be up in a moment.

Nice. On a similar note, Fabio gets beaten in the SF of Stuttgart by RBA 6-3, 6-4, Agut is a very solid opponent but I thought Fognini would take him, oh well. I still think he'll defend his title here though.

Anyway. Naming a tournament "Bet-at-home open" is just ridiculous. Sorry but just the way it is. For a moment I thought it is some kind of joke when I saw the thread.

As much as it leaves a bad taste in the mouth to see a tennis tournament named after a gambling and sports betting company, most people see enough betting adverts (starring Ivanisevic sometimes) during changeovers that it all becomes pretty ubiquitous really so I can't really complain

Most tournaments are named after their main sponsors (ex. Topshelf Open, Rogers Cup, Heineken Open etc.). Sure, bet-at-home Open is a bit more of an awkward name, but it simply falls in line with standard procedure so there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Anyways, about the actual tournament...

Blockbuster 1R rising stars match...Thiem vs Vesely!

I saw the header and thought Kitzbuhel was the tourney. Same sponsor.

Haha awesome! Quite a strong field. I want David Ferrer to do well but I wouldn't mind one of the 1HBHs winning it. :)

Yeah, I know I said there are questions about his form but at the same time I have this feeling that he'll gather himself and round into form to win the title.

This tournament wasn't exactly kind to the Germans in qualifying. Almost all of the 12 seeded players in qualifying were matched up against a German and each German lost, most of them handily.

I hope the young German Zverev has a good tournament. Otherwise, all eyes will be on Kohlschreiber in terms of local players. I don't expect much at all from Dustin Brown, Struff or any of the German wild cards.

Misha Zverev? I remember he lost last year against Federer in Halle 0-6 0-6, he is S&V player and prefer grass...

Pulling for an "outsider" to win; Delbonis from the top half maybe or Klizan/Thiem SF winner from the bottom.

RBA got sick from Stuttgart victory celebration and has WD'd.

Zverev won 6-0 6-2 against Haase. Haase kept playing quite poor. Zverev played a good match though with some great points from him.

Thiem had a hard match vs Granollers, but he came back from a 5-3 down to win it 7-5!

Good day for the younsters!

Zverev... has become the youngest player to win a match at an ATP World Tour 500-level tournament in more than five years

I saw that...Dimitrov beat Berdych @Rotterdam'09, but Kokki's win at @AO'14 trumps that (age 17, 9 months).

I only saw a couple of highlight points vs Haase but the kid already has a crusher 2HBH.

FOGNINI???

He loses to Filip Krajinovic 6-4 6-0

Delbonis is also out.

Dolgopolov yet again proved why he'll never win anything big. He's a mental hedcase. Serving to get a final set tiebreak, he hit two dropshots and hit a swinging BH drive volley long! This is NOT the way to handle tough situations.

The guy had 17 more winners, less unforced errors, and still lost the match! The match just showcased that the real difference between these challengers and top guys is not in the ability to hit the ball. Difference between winning and losing is between the ears!

Alex is only 17, Giraldo is 10 years older....hell I'm 9 years older...I feel old.

Alex has a dangerous game.
