Murray went over every point in one game, but they were insane rallies, long points. Then Novak went over a couple times. So NONE of them can stay under 25 seconds when they start having 15, 20, 25 and 30 stroke rallies.

But did either Djokovic or Murray get a time violation? What about this supposed clampdown the commies were talking about in Rafa's game where every time violation was going to be called? They're sure not clamping down in Tokyo which, last I heard, was also an ATP tournament.

Everybody knows that Rafa can be slow but isn't it strange that time violations weren't an issue nor did the broadcasters ever mention it about anyone regardless of how long players were taking during the US swing when Rafa was missing? But now that he's back they're suddenly going to clamp down, and they obviously are - against him. The unfairness of their crusade against Rafa is shameful. Call him if you must but at least call the other players too. Klizan wasn't exactly a Speedy Gonzales during their match but he never got called once. Murray and Djoke didn't get called in this match either.

Rafa is a big part of why tennis is so popular now around the world and yet the ATP - or at least some people in the ATP - seem to be intent on dragging him and his game down. He's frustrated over the situation and it's being reflected in his play. The ATP is shooting itself in the foot.

Totally agree. It's so petty. They now choose to penalize him at crucial points, such as break point or set point. Shameful.

He got a great win against Cilic the US open champion. So it's progress.

It is gradual progress. In the space of the last month he has beaten 2 players ranked in the top 10, Tsonga (at the US Open) and now the recent US Open champion himself. He has reached a final and won a title, however small. Prior to that, he was getting criticized for not having been able to do any of those things this year.

Novak just too good in this tourney

Novak is the world #1 for a reason and has never lost to anybody in Beijing. This tournament always brings out the best in him. He was just too good for Murray today. In fact, he's been too good for him all season. Nonetheless, Murray could have done better today IMO. His serve is still too erratic and unreliable and he made just too many avoidable errors today. Frankly, I was a bit disappointed as I felt he played better at their Miami and USO encounters so his return to top form is still very much a work in progress IMO. His game is now probably good enough to take on anybody but the top 3 or 4 but he has been making progress, slowly but surely and it is no disgrace to lose to the world's best player.

Murray still isn't 100%.
He looked fatigued, and almost ready to break down.
If(as it appears to be)his back is still hurting, why is he playing?
Won't he just make it worse?
He constantly looks tired too.
Maybe he should rest until AO,instead of(no pun intended)breaking his back for WTF?
Djoker played his usual game and just absorbed what Murray had, from the highlights atleast.

Sure, sure.

"Novak obviously plays extremely well in these conditions on that court (in Beijing)," said Murray. "It's slow, pretty heavy conditions. You feel like you can really go for your shots. You aren't going to make errors. In these conditions he obviously moves exceptionally well. It's tough to get many free points or hit winners. Over the course of the match, that builds up a bit.

Excuses from Murray, who was talking about the condition - weather, ... not the court BTW.

Everyone knows this court is on the fast side of HC courts.

Ah man Murray lost in straights :( Came here and immediately saw the "murray got destroyed" thread bumped and knew it was bad news. Ah well, how was the match? Was Djokovic too good or did Murray not turn up?

Of interest to Pospisil /doubles fans. Pospisil/Beneteau are in the doubles final, First time I knew was today when I checked the schedule. Poor doubles always get shoved in the corner.

Follow the live scores is the best we can do I guess.

I already posted that a couple of hours ago. ;)
Yes, it's a shame we barely ever get to see doubles matches...

Novak Djokovic - ATP Pékin 2014

.

In a nutshell

The world number one was in control from the outset, although Murray threatened a comeback during the second set when he won three games in a row.

The result, however, was never really in doubt, and Djokovic's stronger service game won out.

Lol..yeah, you don't have to check to see if Murray won a match or not. You'll know he lost as soon as you see someone predictably bumping that thread!

As for the match, disappointing from Murray. I had hoped he would have come out a bit sharper and be hitting his serve and groundstrokes a bit more confidently. But, again, his serve was too erratic and it soon became apparent that as soon as they started engaging in lengthy baseline rallies it would almost always conclude with an error from Murray.

That said, Djokovic was just too good. He hardly ever missed anything and he was strong and confident on serve. In other words, everything Murray was not. He seems to be practically unbeatable in Beijing.

Klizan, just another guy who can play great for one match but can't repeat it.

You're selling him short. Klizan has proven in the past that he has game and will surely do so again in the future.

Unfortunately he had problems with his ankle today. Got an MTO after very early in the first set of the match and I actually thought he was going to forfeit.
He deserves credits for playing on at least, though there were no doubts whatsoever that he wouldn't be able to deal with Berdych today. Unfortunately.

Novak was not himself the whole August. Came unprepared for the whole US summer swing. His mind was not there. Too much partying in July - W win, wedding, baby, ...

Such a shame but very happy it looks like his fall season is gonna be great again. He needs it to consolidate his #1.
(ETA: Cilic winning the USO felt so weird. Novak would never have lost to him. Oh well.)

Isnt that what you felt when Nadal faced Kyrgios up until the last point ?

The big difference is that it was the first time Nadal was playing K.
Cilic has never beaten Djoko who knows how to handle him. They're very familiar with each other's game. And in any case, the match would have been much tighter (than the actual final) regardless of outcome. But no need to dwell on the past, Novak was not playing well in the summer period. (Just like last year, so frustrating). One has to be on top of one's game to win a slam.

It's all about 1st serve with Novak. That makes the difference (because his return rarely fails him). When he has to play a lot of 2nd serves, he's always vulnerable. He got broken a lot last summer.

Djokovic snapped Murray in half towards the end of the match yesterday. That huge point that Djokovic gutted out to break Murray was insane. Murray threw in the towel after that.

Lol, that was one of those classic Djokovic points where he's like "throw everything you got at me, you're NOT winning this point!" I love it!
