Novak will bring it on for the slams, I hope, but he should get rid of Becker. I don't know what value he is adding (it certainly doesn't show if he is), but he seems to have brought him bad luck for sure.
 
Crap. I watched bit of first set and Roger was getting smoked. Depressed, I ran errands and I just tuned in and it's over.

Congrats Roger. Looks like he must've lifted his game in the last two sets.

1st serve started to work and suddenly he looked so rejuvenated. Its amazin how all his game and confidence relies on his serve nowadays.

Is this the first time that Federer has come back from a set down and beat the Djoker? Was the win all Fed in top form or was it a rusty Djoker?
 
The bigger racquet DEFINITELY helped Federer's game IMO. I think in his mind he finally feels like he isn't at a disadvantage (in terms of easy power and spin) compared to his opponents from the baseline. 3 top 10 wins this year, his great AO form has carried over seemingly. I expect to see Federer back in the top 4 by the end of the year.
 
I've said many times Federer is not done. He seems to have almost gotten back to his 2012 level. Kudos to the old guy for being patient and methodical in preparing for this moment. I think he is still improving, still seems not quite as consistent as he can be, and by the time of clay season, I think he'll be as good as he can be at his age. That is, if there is not to be any more injury problems. Berdych match is a tough one. Federer may lose there.
 
This is first time Roger defeated Novak dropping first set.

Hats off Federer.

Believe in BTE.

It's impossible to beat Federer without cheating. ;)

Roger's passing shots were key in this match, reminding us he has the second best passes of his era (behind Nadal).

Sign of good things to come, but sticking with my pre tournament pick of Berdych.

that's my thoughts too...only a handful of those wild groundstroke errors and shanks

Love the RF-Djoker matchup always a pleasure to watch.

What about that RF winning backhand passing (flashed at 150 kph on TV) to break Djoker at 1-0 beginning of third set !! That was a huuuuggee shot.

LOL no. Berdych ruiner of potential great matches and tournaments . Needs to be slayed.

2014 Fed can be good or bad. Will wait and see.

Less than 1000 points separate (3)Wawrinka and ( 8 ) Roger.

After what happened today, I am surprised you are jumping the gun in picking the winner.

So many were expecting Djoker to have an easy two set win. Unlike others, Fed is a rythm player and difficult to play when he is riding on high confidence.

It would be a good match but I wouldn't pick Berd yet.
 
Huge Congrates for Federer and his fans!!! This match showed why he has to stay and compete for a while. The game needs him.
 
Really one of the best matches I have seen Federer play probably since Wimbledon 2012. His approach to his forehand when pushed deep was really good, and his backhand was actually quite stable tonight. I was constantly waiting for it to break down, but it didnt. Djokovic sticked to the usual plan of playing 80% of the points cross court deep to Federers backhand but it didnt break. The backhand doesnt break as easily if it isnt forced by Rafas 3000 RPM forehand.
Federer moved well, served well but most important he actually won the majority of important points.
And man, there sure were a lot of awesome points with a mix of lobs, net points, baseline power play and beautiful diverse tennis. One of my favorite three-sets matches...

I'm impressed the final is played tomorrow and not on Sunday. Roger would have loved an extra day. Its a tough one tomorrow, Berdych is on fire and I'm pretty sure Federer will be a bit relaxed. He tends to do so when he has such a huge win like this one.
 
Congrats to Fed fans (we waited paitently for a big win), and commiserations to Djoko fans.

Nice job Fed. Glad I was wrong. Berdych match is 50-50 IMO, but it would be nice to see Fed reverse the trend a bit and beat Berdych. It'll be important for future Fed-Berdych matches as far as who has the mental edge. Right now though, just wicked happy that Federer beat Novak, and proved my pick wrong. Not that I didn't believe, I just thought Novak would win.
 
you guys have me gushing at work. I taped the match on sportsnet and can't wait to get home to watch it. These two play the most watchable tennis arguably in awhile. Way to go for the Old man. I was worried when I checked my phone after the first.

Yeah, more or less.


Federer put consistent pressure on Novak today and played at a high level. It was good to see...

Overall a high quality match where both produced more winners than unforced.

it has since 09 at the very least ... AO 09 was probably the last fedal match with really epic shotmaking from both sides ....struggling to remember one after that ...

I'd say 60-40 to federer since he'd be high on confidence after having beaten novak ....fed to take revenge for the previous year's match ( a match he should've won )
 
Seriously now. I don't care what happens tomorrow. Federer has just beaten Djokovic and silenced the H2H worshippers for a while.

Far more concerned with Federer winning a title, which he hasn't done for a long time.

Yeah Fed was playing his BH DTL at will and was very effective. Clutch serving as well.

Not having any hopes against Berdych tmr, taking it one match at a time. But no matter what beating Djoker today gives him a huge confidence boost and will bode well for the rest of the year.
