Hewitt - Groth would be something, wouldn't it? An all-Australian final at an ATP Tour event. How long since that last happened?

Hewitt v Philippoussis at 2003 Scottsdale? Hewitt won 4 and 4.

Even now, 11 years on, whenever we talk about the prospect of an all-Australian final, Hewitt is still in the mix!

The Adelaide title was his first at age 17, making him the third youngest to win an ATP title and he beat Agassi in the SFs to set up the all-Aussie final vs Stoltenberg. 16.5 years ago! That's amazing!

Groth imploded on himself to be broken by the big Dr.

What a nightmare playing Karlovic, he moves like a sloth but serves like a rocket.

Hewitt is in the final! He'll struggle with Dr Ivo but I hope he manages his second title of the year. That was his 126 match win on grass. Incredible.

Wow to be honest I was expecting Sock to win after his good run.

Hewitt demolished him, moved a lot better and Sock was hitting UF's a lot.

Hewitt vs Karlovic, to think 11 years ago at Wimbledon they first played and a massive shock occurred. I guess Karlovic is the favourite though this is Hewitt's 3rd consecutive final at Newport.

I hear a lot of talk about "retirement" for the over 30s crew, why when you're playing well? Dr Ivo is having a great 2014 and Hewitt is playing well in the top 50.

Ivo is 4-1 up in the h2h with 3 wins to 0 losses on grass. He's the heavy favorite IMO.

Good point, never thought of that! I remember that too. It was probably one of my biggest "WTF just happened" moments as a tennis fan. But then Federer went ahead and won the title and began his GOAT career so it's all good.

Would like to see Hewitt win the final. It will be tough since Karlovic has pretty much owned him throughout his career.

I put a bet on Karlovic because the bookie at my betting site actually favored Hewitt. Considering my dismal betting track record so far, Hewitt is pretty much guaranteed to win.

Singles final:

Lleyton Hewitt[3]
vs.
Ivo Karlovic[2]

Doubles final:

Chris Guccione / Lleyton Hewitt
vs.
Jonathan Erlich / Rajeev Ram

Looks like Hewitt could pull off the singles and doubles titles. That would be pretty cool.

Interesting fact: Hewitt has reached 10 grass court finals, winning all of them but his two at Newport. Will he break the duck here?

Hewitt goes up 0-30 but can't push any more and Karlovic holds. Hewitt has had his chances but right now Karlovic is winning the important points.

And Karlovic takes it. Hewitt has had a handful of match points but he just choked then out and let Karlovic back in. This (unfortunately) reminds me of the 2013 final against Mahut. Dr Ivo has to have the advantage now.

So annoyed with Hewitt

Two years in a row he should have won this title. Likewise he should of been in the QF of the USO last year.

Funny how some players are so mentally tough early in their careers, and then when they approach and pass 30 they are a shadow of their former selves in the mental department. Hewitt is probably the best example, but even Nadal and Djokovic (who was a mental titan in 2011 and most of 2012) aren't nearly as mentally rock-solid as they used to be.
