I'm shocked by this result. Really!
I did not imagine that Stan would win. I think most of us are surprised.

I expected a much closer match than you did, but still picked Fed to snug it out in 3. Am really impressed with Stan in the breaker, in the second set in general (got broken back and all) and with the third set in particular.

All in all - whoever had reservations as to Stan's mental toughness: Lay those reservations to rest! He's proved everyone wrong enough times already.

I was really hoping Fed can win this and add Monte Carlo to his resume. Too bad that didn't happen. Still happy for Stan though. He was crazy good on 3rd set. Keep the momentum going Stan!

If Fed really is going to miss RG and Djokovic is not healed yet by then, I really hope Stan can win it (or anybody not named Nadal for all I care). Rh won't be the same without those 2 players though!

Can someone tell me how many people won their first slam before there first masters?
I know Del Potro is yet to win a masters but apart from him

Guga Kuerten? Richard Krajicek? Michael Stich? Pete Sampras? Gaston Gaudio(Never won a ms).. The list is long. Patrick Rafter? Lleyton Hewitt? Yevgueni Kafelnikov(Never won a ms)..

Yep. I just watched the first set till Wawa got broken (switched off after that), and the third set. Didn't watch the 2nd.

But very very impressive performances by Stan. He's 3-0 against FEDALOVIC this year, and 4-0 against FEDALOVICRRAY in their last 4 meetings.:shock:

Stan is the one of the biggest contenders for RG now!

Roger has a plan, i think he wants to stay at No 4 till Wimbledon is over so he can always be on Djoker's side of the draw and make wawa take care of ****.

....to lose a Masters final?

It's hilarious to see how much you hate Rafa, that you can't even write his name properly. sometimes it's "****", sometimes "hafa", and what not
I pity you.

its ****,**** or tony but never hafa :)

Roger wants Wimbledon so losing this masters to his dear friend and piegon is not going to bother him much, specially when you notice that he did not even care that he lost the tiebreaker, i think he just won the first set to make this a three set thriller and feed metal strength to wawa so he can handle **** pretty well.

I think roger will win Wimbledon, cincinnati and WTF this year and end this year as No 3 in rankings.

**** wont win a slam this year, even at his favorite useless FO he has two big hurdles to cross in the name of wawa and djoker, why do you think **** lost to ferrer? he thought that way he will avoid another loss to wawa and save himself from feeding a massive mental edge to wawa before FO.

If he wins all these titles he would definately be better than number 3 in the ranking....... These are 4500 points combined with 3.2 so far he would need 2-4k from the other tournaments to challenge the number 1.

... - perhaps it's time for her to actually watch tennis matches NOT involving her favourite?

I'm pretty sure LazyNinja is a guy. I understand what you're saying though in fairness he's actually one of the best Nadal fans on here, even if he doesn't always show it! :)

Congratulations to Wawrinka. I'm more bummed out than I think I would be. I guess I really expected Federer to win here, especially after taking the first set. Just couldn't imagine him losing here for some reason, even if Wawrinka was playing that well..

I actually agree with you, but that says a lot more about the Nadal fans on this board than about him.

Yeah.... well I still think it's some kind of a *************-fangirl (which is bad enough), she/he/it certainly isn't the worst around over here.

Not even close to the league of proper, knowledgeable Nadal fans like Namelessone, Mustard, MichaelNadal, and the likes of such. Excuse me if I happened to forget to name a few of you folks. :)

Told you so...

I know man. I was way way off in my prediction and I eat my words.
I just thought that Roger is an amazing Clay player, and he would raise his level much higher in the Finals, like he always does.
Roger is playing amazing this year, but has become inconsistent due to age. But Stan proved to be too good today.

Thanks for those kind words buddy. :) I'm certainly not one of best ones, but I try not to be offensive to other camps.
I hope you had a good night of love making yesterday, as you mentioned before ;)

I'll take that as a compliment, I guess

Yep, you're right. The Rafa fans you've mentioned are great posters. I'd like to add Beast of Mallorca, Tipsa...dontlikehim to that list.

And I'm a guy. Do my posts sound like a girl? I'll try to write manlier posts in the future. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey LazyNinja19, I would like to apologize to you. I may well have been a mite too harsh to you in my earlier posts.

Yeah Stan is an extraordinary slow-courts player and today he proved it again. The fellow will surely be in contention for the coming CC events, and let it be known, his AO victory surely wasn't a fluke. :)

You did sound like a girl, but hey, nothing wrong with that, eh?

My greetz to you! :)

Not really surprised, stan's been hitting big off both wings this week. I knew once he shook off his nerves he would steamroll the Fed. Congrats to him, coming of age...

Too bad Rog, this was your last chance to win Monte Carlo.

At least this will shut up the Fed*****s for a while. They were really showing their true colors after Nadal lost - weird how suddenly Djokovic and Wawrinka suddenly lost a lot of support.

I don't think this is going to happen (Maybe Wimbledon can happen). He will be a finalist in lot of tournaments.

Novak is non factor due to his wrist injury and possibly surgery soon.
so Stan could beat rafa for the French. then roger wins Wimbledon. the Rafa will win US open.
US open courts are too fast for Stan. and Roger has mental block against Rafa so rafa should win that one.

LOL at haters saying Stan lost a lot of support.

Glad to see Fed actually smiling in his post-match interview, think the loss isn't even bothering him the slightest.

Wawrinka was playing like a World #1 in that third set. A lesser player might have folded from over-excitement after the winning a tight set against a top player, but the really good players maintain the momentum and blow their opposition away.

I've seen Fed lose plenty of sets 6-2 from bad play, but he was being hammered today.

From the very start Stan looked like the far more dangerous player but lost the first set on a very poor service game and only really got going in the second set. Served a lot better, stopped giving Fed cheap points and played a clean TB. Third set he just surged on. Like the above poster said it is a rare sight seeing Fed blown away, but I also suspect Fed was the less fit player at that moment.

Not fun seeing Fed losing in a final when he was playing decent enough to win but overall I like what I'm seeing, his tennis is entertaining this year (couldn't be worse than last year anyway). And I like the fact that he has a lot of matches under his belt. I feel Dubai won't be his only title this season.

Stan won his maiden Slam over Nadal having never won a set against him before. Won his maiden Masters over Fed who he had only beat once and arguably struggled a lot more in his head over the years. How about that.

LOL, he came in here on a WC FCS. It's not even a mandatory event.

This means a lot more to Stan. The final and the result was great for tennis.

Agree, Roger came here just get some points and get the ranking. he didn't care if he won or not. he won so many majors and masters, he can't even count them all

So Wawrinka beat Federer, Nadal and Djokovic this year. Murray beware.

Wawa is having his "Davydenko 2009-2010" run, it seems.

Murray already has a head start on bewaring Wawrinka after he got straight setted by him twice last year, once in MC and the other at the USO!

Wawa is having his "Davydenko 2009-2010" run, it seems.

He's already done better than Davydenko ever did by winning a Slam! Davydenko never even got to a Slam final in his entire career.

fed appeared quite a bit tired by the 3rd set ...... needs some work on fitness ?

good play by Stan though ... Well deserved 1st Master series win ....

This match definitely does not go down in the list of matches that Federer has perhaps blown. Stan was too good here, and if everybody is honest, we all knew it would be tough for Fed. He was perhaps a slight favourite, but not by enough to make ridiculous proclamations that he "blew" this match.

pretty much this ...

So, Fed has lost both matches he's played in M-C against Wawa. Is it due to the slow surface? Wawa has never beaten Fed in another event. Maybe it will happen this year when he is feeling more confident. Congrats to him on his first master win. It's starting to look like 2014 might become Wawrinka's season. Surprising but...

I like Wawrinka's demeanor when it comes to the championship winning celebration.
