1 of 3 Captain Obvious reasons Schnur and Rubin not playing: 1. Hurt. 2. Going to play a Futures or Challenger somewhere. 3. Need to go to class. My guess is 1 or 2.
 
I wouldn't be surprised to hear class is the reason, qualifiers start on Monday and players can give up a week of class, that's brutal for colleges that started early, they are taking midterms already, where some of the late starts are just beginning. Wouldn't think it is 2 since they did choose to go to college.
 
I think they make the draws after all the players check in. Not sure when that check in deadline is though. Probably 5 or 6 guessing.
 
I've learned to have no expectations when dealing with college tennis in general. I stay much saner that way.
 
I think it's a little absurd that Aleks Vukic is unseeded in prequalies (I know he only has a small body of work, but it's probably safe to say he's in the 30-40 best players in the country).

Random observation - anyone else find it funny that there is a Nikolas Papic (that plays for Fresno State) and a Nicholas Papac (that currently plays for Oklahoma, but was previously at Fresno State)?

The more I look at it, the more odd seedings and non-seedings I'm seeing. I guess it won't be too big of a deal but the seeded players have to play one less game. Which will matter if they get into the qualie draw

Wake Forest guys did well, going 8-1 on day one. Only loss was from sam bloom. Ho, Mansouri, Delcore, and Seraphim all advanced to round 3.

got the bolded ones correct. 9 out of 16. Segura and Davis got to the final round but fell, almost 11 of 16.

ITA confirmed that 'no ad' scoring is being used via twitter.

It should be very interesting to read what the players have to say about it after it is all over. The last thing I read from Collette Lewis about the 16 players that played at the US Open intercollegiate tourney was that the women generally really did not like it, but the nearly all of the men thought it was fine.

Probably attributable to the different types of games and the inherent power differences between men and women.

Also the men used it last year and so are more comfortable with it.

Top four guys gone. The montgomery result 1 and 4 surprises me. His two previous tournaments were excellent.
 
Vukic keeps rolling along - took out Chris Mengel. Metka up a set on Kwiatkowski but down a break in the 2nd. Miss State's Cash and Cal's Wikberg are 10-10 in the 3rd set TB.

Update: Wikberg took it 12-10.

4 pre-qualifiers have made it all the way to the main draw:

Texas A&M's AJ Catanzariti won 7 matches while Wake Forest's Jon Ho, UTSA's Tomas Stillman, and UNC's Jack Murray all won 6 matches since they were seeded.

Duke tweeted out that Bruno got in as a LL because he was the 2nd highest ranked player to lose in the final round of qualies. Bjerrehus was one spot higher so that means he is in too. The main draw should be out later today so it's possible there could be more lucky losers to make it in. I wouldn't be surprised if Austin Smith was one of the guys to drop out since he didn't play dubs with Diaz in qualies.
 
This is midterms for schools that started in August and many players wisely opt out. Contrary to popular belief, professors don't always honor the travel excuses for athletes.

There's a number of excellent first round matches. Some of what could develop in the 2nd and rd of 16 look intriguing as well. Upsets look ripe for the happening. The only thing that's declined is, well I won't mention it, we all know what that is.
