2014 Saint Francis ITA Men's All-American Championships - Tulsa, OK

Gotta remember not to get up to get a cup of coffee from a close match a couple games into the third set. With no ad, I come back just a couple minutes later and poof it is gone from the live scoring and in limbo before result posts to the draw.
 
The legend of Jonny Wang continues as he takes out aTm's Harrison Adams 6-3 6-3. He always seems to play lights out in the fall every year. Last year at the AA's he beat Peter Kobelt, Nick Chappell, and Tim Kopinski. The year before he beat Dennis Novikov, Clarke Spinosa, and Max De Vroome.

that guy A.Harrison is a solid player... one of aTm top spots...

I just caught the score online; only time I saw him play in person was last year in Houston at the National Team Indoors when he lost to Hunter Callahan. He didn't play a terrible match but Callahan was on fire that week and for most of the season. You don't see too many guys hitting the 2-hand forehand so that was a little different but if it works who cares how it looks.

Harrison Adams is a very good player so beating him is a nice feather in the cap.
 
.. only Wang and Hanfmann are showing any signs of life for USC .. the other guys went out fast... if this keeps up, it's gonna be a long season for the defending champs...

I think the answers might have been different if it was anonymous. They seem to be saying what their coaches are saying.
 
All 4 pre-qualifiers got bounced today - AJ Catanzariti went down 7-6 6-4 to Thai Kwiatkowski, Jon Ho went down 7-6 7-6 to Austin Smith, Tomas Stillman went down 7-5 7-5 to Winston Lin, and Jack Murray went down 6-4 6-3 to Denis Nguyen

Berkowicz giving Alvarez a good match: if he didn't let that 5-3 lead in the 1st slip away he'd be off the court.

Do you think this year's crop of top college players is considerably down from recent years? I have not heard of half of these guys, which maybe is not that unusual, but I do not see any top 150 type ATP pros among this bunch.

What do you think and who are the best players left? The seedings have been pretty meaningless.

As a UVa fan, I wish I could believe the doomsaying about USC and UCLA this year, but I am afraid that fall tourneys are not a definitive indication.

Of the top 4 seeds left I think the only one I don't give much of a shot of winning it is Alvarez from OU. I'd probably lean to Soren Hess-Olesen as my favorite in the top half because he should win his next 2 fairly easily before potentially meeting Andrew Harris in the quarters. A Lenz/Kwiatkowski match in the quarters would be interesting too - I'd actually be surprised if Kwiatkowski didn't "upset" Winston Lin today.

Yannick Hanfmann should win the bottom half of the draw and is my favorite to win it all unless someone like Ryan Shane can rise up and out hit him. I actually think Pasha has a good shot at making the semis which when I saw the draw I wouldn't have thought he'd make it past the 2nd round.

Lenz always seems to slip up somewhere along the way in these individual tournaments so I wouldn't be shocked to see him go out as early as today though he should beat Villa.

It's too bad several of the top returning guys (Frank/Schnur/Gosea) and some of the top newcomers (Rubin/Di Feo) didn't play or weren't in school yet (Altamirano/Arconada) because that seems to have lessened the draw a bit. I was disappointed that Wayne Montgomery didn't make it out of qualies because I thought he had a chance to do well.

I'd give Hanfmann and Hess-Olesen a shot at the top 150 with Hanfmann the better chance of the 2.
 
Kwiatkowski over Lin 6-2 6-7(5) 6-3. TSK was up 4-0 in the 2nd and served for it up 5-4 30-0 before Lin came back.
 
Stiefelmeyer over Hess-Olesen 6-4 6-2 - very very surprising result.
Kopinski over Chappell 6-2 6-3
Cid over Shane 6-4 6-2
Bogaerts over Alvarez 4-6 6-4 7-5. Bogaerts led 3-1 in every set.
Alvarez over Hiltzik 2-6 7-5 6-4
 
Pasha over Monette 6-1 7-5 - Pasha served for it at 5-4 and got broke but broke back and then came back from 15-40 down to win it.
 
Nguyen over Ram-Harel 6-2 5-7 6-1
Hanfmann over Glasspool 6-1 6-1
Austin Smith over Monaghan 6-3 3-6 6-4 - Austin was broke serving for it up 5-3 but broke back to take it.

It's slightly down in terms of the absolute top players. There's no Devvarman/Johnson/Rola/Giron/ around this year but I think that the 5-30 depth is pretty good. This is a lot like when Nedovyesov and Brugues were the top 2 players in college tennis. (Yes Nedo is now doing well in the ATP but he was never a dominating college player).

Pasha up a set and a break on Wang 6-3, 4-3

It's interesting on the online scoreboard they have the names of the juniors playing in the ITF tournament yet they can't put the names of the college guys playing.

Up and down 1st set for Pasha against Bogaerts - trailed 2-5 then won 4 straight and served for the set up 6-5. Got broke after having a set point and then had a few set points in the TB up 6-4 before losing the last 4 points to drop the TB 8-6.

Thai Son has been on fire this Fall. Does UVa still try and play him between 4-5?
