No disrespect at all. Djokovic was the best player in the world in 2013 as well as this year, so there was not much room for improvement, so Nishikori is clearly leading there.
Also servebots have generally better serves than the top overall best players, so just recognizing that fact.

Moment of the year - Wawrinka's AO win. Improbable, impossible, you name it.
Best forehand - Single shot? Dustin Brown. Bread and butter = probably Nadal still.
Most improved player - Victor Estrella Burgos, no contest. Injury, 33, broke into the top 100. What a warrior.
Match of the year - For me it was the Australian Open quarterfinal between Djokovic and Wawrinka. I had an inkling of what was going to happen but it was still a magnificent contest.
Worst sportsmanship - Fognini. It's a mystery to me how this guy is still competing.
Best sportsmanship - I am going for the unusual here. Djokovic had to swallow some tough losses this year and did it gracefully each time.
Biggest letdown player - Dimitrov, and I don't say this lightly. He has improved year-on-year but only in terms of ranking. He missed massive opportunities this year and I am not confident he will get far under his present mentor.

Best 1handed BH - Wawrinka. He dealt with Djokovic and Nadal and came damn close to beating Federer indoors to boot.
Best 2handed BH - It has to be Nishikori, right? He was unreal in his USO Semi.
Best Serve - Karlovic. It seems this guy can serve incredibly regardless of his advancing age. Miraculous, one would say.
Slam of the year - The USO for me. Going in without Nadal, some thought it was going to be a letdown. We got some very exciting matches instead. Coric and Kyrgios both made headway and Cilic and Nishikori played at an astonishing level. Federer and Monfils made a great spectacle as well.

I agree about the forehands and backhands. It is really hard to say one is better than the other for just one year. There are a lot of subcategories as well like who has the best slice or topspin backhand or drive. Then a player might play a tremendous forehand on some occasions but is inconsistent. How does consistency factor in?

We all know that federer had the greatest forehand of all time with those inside outs and inside ins when he was at his peak. Nadal is a close second but since he is a lefty and uses so much spin it is like apples and oranges.
