It should be a great tournament at Wimbledon this year! Hopefully we don't have a repeat of last year and the 3 of Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka avoid early round exits (or withdrawals in Azarenka's case).

There are some young players that have made strides this year - Halep, Bouchard and Muguruza - and it will be interesting to watch their progress.

Hoping for good health and good tennis all around for the ladies at Wimbledon this year. Let's get this started!

Bouchard has a tough match right off the bat against Hantuchova. Then she has Serena looming in the 4th round.

Don't see this being a long tournament for Genie, especially with the possibility of losing right away in the 1st round if she's not on her game.

Seems like a wide open tournament this year. But you never know with the ladies. Whenever we expect a surprise, we're surprised with a predictable winner and whenever we expect an obvious winner, we're surprised by an underdog.

Should be good though.

If Serena beats Alize Cornet in 3R, I expect her to take it. Difficult seeing Bouchard taking out Serena.

On the other side of the draw, it is really open. I am going with Sloane Stephens to make a deep run.

I see Sharapova-Williams drawn in the same quarter again. But again,I don't think the match will happen. I expect one of them to lose before the quarters, probably Maria...

mind you i pick serena to win but out of the two maria is has the better draw and baring a choke job can get through the kerbers of the world. outside of serena no one is a match for a focused maria.

Hoping for Bouchard to win it all. Would be amazing if she did going through Sharapova and Serena but I don't see it happening. Not sold on Serena either, this one might be interesting.

Enjoy:

When in The Netherlands, I wear orange ... too bad it was too short this year, for this was a great dress, for your eyes only, and I didn't have to wear that unsightly thigh compression bandage either ...

Now, as my stay at Hertogenbosh was too short, lemme give you another one from the same great photographer ... Enjoy, boys and girls ... and come to my matches

Who the hell will win the US Open then? Serena sure as hell won't go back to back to back there. Azarenka sure as hell ain't winning it...

Halep or Bouchard. Sharapova and Li Na have never won 2 slams in one year and probably never will. Li Na is streaky as hell though, you never know .

I think Halep can be the real deal, but I'm not sold on Bouchard though. I think she did well to make 2 SFs this year, but that's her limit at the slams this year I think. A lot would have to go her way to win a slam in the near future...

I want to see Venus holding the rosewater dish! :(

Hallelujah! I really want Venus to lift one more -- my favorite female player ever.

I also think this is the tournament when Maria finally beats Serena. It's bound to happen sometime, right?

So, I'm going to go against conventional wisdom, and pick Venus going further than Serena. I say Venus beats Maria in the final in 3.

I'm with you man, they'll never be a female I enjoy watching as much as Venus.

I'd LOVE to see Ivanovic beat Lisicki in R3. Ivanovic beat her in Stuttgart earlier this year fairly easily and she's just won her first grass court title. I know Lisicki is a lot better on grass than she is on clay, but I can't stand how it appears like she is nonchalant all year around about her results except for at Wimbledon. I think she needs a reality check and that may stop her 'relying' on Wimbledon for her results.

Ok. Venus to win singles and doubles! :D

There is no current player that moves across a grass court with the grace and skill as Venus Williams. My heart would love to see her in the finals but my head says no. It seems so long since I've seen Serena play so I don't know what form she'll be in. I don't think that Maria will get to the final unless Serena goes down early. So basically I have no clue who will win. If Serena's serve is working then no question it will be her. But that serve has to be working.

And in turn,Serena only wins if Lisicki goes out before meeting her

Is Serena seeded to meet Sabine again this year? Not that I think she'd lose to her for the 2nd year running anyway.

They can only meet in the SF and that's a long shot. Lisicki would have to go through Jankovic in R16 and then Halep in the QF. I really don't think Serena is winning this title anyway,

I don't think Sabine will beat Serena again if they meet in the SF. It is unlikely. Serena will be on guard and she rarely if ever (?) loses twice to the same player.

But Jankovic has to get through some tough players to even get to Lisicki--i.e. maybe Madison Keys who just won Eastbourne and beat Jankovic there. She also has to beat Kanepi who can be tough.

Who do you think is going to win W if not Serena?

Right, there is Keys too. Love her game, maybe she can beat Jankovic again. Kanepi won't do anything.

I honestly think we will have a first time major champion here. Whether it be Halep or Bouchard or someone else, I'm not completely sure. Serena hasn't been impressive at all this year, especially in slams. Her grand slam winning days might be over soon, perhaps at this years USO.

It is possible but I doubt it. I think there are a lot of young stars on the rise in the women's game but I am not sure any are ready to win Wimbledon just yet.

One thing is for sure the women's game is interesting right now with a lot of contenders. Hard to pick a winner for this title. I guess I would probably pick Serena though.

Who the hell will win the US Open then? Serena sure as hell won't go back to back to back there. Azarenka sure as hell ain't winning it...

I don't know what's more asinine, this statement or the tone of utter certainty in which you're saying it.

Serena sure as hell won't go back to back? Azarenka sure as hell ain't winning it? Feel free to, ya know, offer some sort of explanation.

Also, it wouldn't be back to back because she lost last year. Or back to back slams because she lost the most recent slam. What a loser she is :D Oh except the time she went back to back there in 2002/3. And 2009/10. I guess 2012 was sort of back to back because she won singles and doubles, then returned to the Wimbledon three weeks later to win singles and double again....but that shouldn't really count because the competition the second time was weak

The poster was referring to the US Open. I guess the conversation sort of shifted.

I picked Serena to win because I think she has the best chance of anyone, but I don't feel like it's a lock by any means. Besides all the usual competition, a couple of big serving young Americans won their first tournaments yesterday. In all likelihood they will be tired and overwhelmed, but they are young enough to recover, so who knows?

I personally feel like the whole tournament is on Serena's racquet. If she's focused and on her game she's still at a point in her career where she can beat anyone, especially at Wimbledon.

Well, given that Serena has gone 0-2 at the slams so far this year, she's probably going to win Wimbledon. At this stage in her career,I'd say it's fairly unlikely she then goes on to win the US Open. Azarenka is on the comeback trail, not in great shape - I don't know whether she'll be a top slam contender again, but I doubt she will be a factor in the 2 slams remaining this year...

I agree that Serena appears to be slowing down and is less likely to back to back than in 2012. I would be happy with W or USO. I hope I'm wrong and she does win both, but I feel like at her age, we can't assume even 1. At least she seemed crabby in her pre-W presser, so she's in a fighting mood.

Vika might be back to form by USO. I would like to see how she looks in action and see how far she has to go.

Kimiko defying time itself (once again).

She'd be a real threat if they only played one set. It's amazing how she can still compete with girls a quarter of a century younger than her. Unfortunately her body doesn't allow her to remain competitive for 3 sets (or even 3 matches in a row).
