Not enough attention is paid here to the women's side outside of the Grand Slams and Premier Mandatory events.

Here we have Simona Halep - the #1 seeded Romanian home favourite and #3 in the world - in the final against 2nd seed Italian Roberta Vinci. Gotta like Halep in this match-up to win her 2nd title of the year in her home country.

Is this on clay? If so, should be good. Too bad I have to work tomorrow :(
I say Halep in 2. Vinci hasn't had the best results lately in singles. I'm glad she made the final.

Yep, it's part of the "2nd clay season" after Wimbledon.

Or what I refer to as "the abomination." Or less damningly, a Christmas tree left up in February. (Bias alert: I <3 grass)

Nonetheless, I really hope Halep wins. It must feel very special to raise a trophy at your home tournament.

In other claybominatiion news, did you see that Shelby Rogers (American ranked around 145) made the final at Bad Gastein? And she got there by taking out Carla Suarez Navarro, then Giorgi, then Errani! On clay! I didn't see any of the matches, so I don't know if any of the higher ranked players were injured, but that's a great result! I would make a thread but I'm too lazy. She faces Petko in the final.

I agree with you there. I feel like it's one of those things that just keeps dragging on and you just want to get over with.

Re: Shelby Rogers, no didn't see that. Should have been paying more attention. Let's see if she can go all the way.

Halep wins 6-1 6-3 and takes the title! Nice to see her win in her home country. Now it's time for a well deserved break for her. Apparently she's not scheduled to play the Rogers Cup so I guess she's off until the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

On that note, the Romanian wild card doubles team of Elena Bogdan and Alexandra Cadantu also took the title in Bucharest, defeating Cagla Buyukakcay and Karin Knapp 6-4 3-6 10-5. All around great week for the Romanians.
