Who is going to take the 2014 WTA China Open?

actually Aga lost to Vinci at 12 USO when both girls were at the top of their games. Now they both are in the decline, more so for Vinci who barely won any matches these days, Aga lost again.

This part of the season has been Aga's the past three seasons. A bad sign that she's losing early at all these events. Particularly to the likes of Vinci.

Eugenie seems to have difficulties against the harder hitting women. If she wants to compete at the top, she will need to learn how to adjust her court positioning.

she got her revenge!

:)

I'm sure Venus is much more concerned about getting out of the earlier rounds of tournaments at this point of her singles career than getting "revenge" against any opponent.

Good win for her!

2014 China Open Players Party

I believe Simona recycled her heels and bag from the Wuhan Players party. Eugenie dressed like she knew she would be leaving early.

Petra's dress looks like a tennis outfit from last year that is too large for her to wear on-court this year. I applaud her for recycling her old tennis wear.

Who is the big girl in stone-washed jeans? Lord, Jesus in Heaven. Why did she even try?

Ana looks like she was trying too hard. The bright red lipstick deserves a thread of its own.

Hands down, Serena is the best-dressed.

Will Serena do her best to help best pal bff Woz bag a title or two? Nothing wrong with that. Wozniacki is playing good tennis.

You know what they say cc0- clothes are for the wearer, not for the starer!

As I said, each to his or her own. I find the outfit Serena is wearing is extremely tacky. It is beyond horrible imo. Try a little class. ;)

To be fair, I don't really like any of their outfits in that picture.

I think it's the classiest in that she's showing respect to the local culture by wearing something that she likely purchased there, or is at least an homage (and that it's Serena, who is always classy :)).

Ana is very pretty, she doesn't need to put on a heavy makeup, but probably it's an evening cocktail party, all girls seem to have a lot things on their face.

Ana is by far the best dressed there. That black dress is the goat.

I've seen cocktail waitresses in Las Vegas better dressed. She looks like she just got out of a bad ballet practice. The bright red lipstick took the outfit to Hookerville. The only other thing that could have made it worse would be to wear bulky earrings without a necklace. Done. One bad choice, deserves another.

And I thought the thread was to discuss tennis...silly me!

Is it raining in Beijing and the stadium court has a retractable roof??? Only one match has started.

Kvitova won 6:4 6:2, she was in her B game, but is more than enough for Peng.

With the roof closed, there were a lot "strange" echoes in the stadium, the calls, the umpire and the crowd, just a bit noisy.

Thanks for the important update. Most people in the US are sleeping right now and could care less (it's 11p on the West Coast).

Yeah, for me Ana is the prettiest woman on tour but I am not loving this outfit. I dislike the red lipstick on her as well. It is too harsh imo. I disagree with you about the bulky earring/necklace thing. If you wear bulky earrings, you should not wear a bulky necklace and vice versa. You keep the focal point on ONE thing so she got that part right imo.

Still, if I had to choose between Serena's look and Ana's look I would go with Ana's.

It is great that she is showing respect for the local culture but IMO that dress is uber tacky.

Yes, that one is not that good I was thinking about all black dress she wore somewhere else recently. Sorry.

Don't like the gold skirt and high waist.

Fora a supposed Christian you don't half make some catty comments on here about other women AngieB. Unless you've lapsed but still, you know what they say- do unto others as you would have done unto you.

Well I'm rarely a fan of the one sleeve look, but I like the print...pretty classic. It would look better with a more traditional Chinese collar, but perhaps with Serena's endowments she can't wear the classic cut or it's just to much bright printed surface area. Maybe she decided to make it more modern (or east meets west). Anyway, not my cup of tea, but I get it.

Lol how did I get sucked into this topic! Again!

It's fine. Go to Spain or Mexico, and you'll see lots of this.

Halep is expected to play 3 matches tomorrow :-)

[15] Andrea Petkovic (GER)
v
[2] Simona Halep (ROU)

[7] Garbine Muguruza (ESP)
Carla Suárez Navarro (ESP)
v
[WC] Simona Halep (ROU)
Raluca Olaru (ROU)

Garbine Muguruza (ESP) OR Simona Halep (ROU)
Carla Suárez Navarro (ESP) OR Raluca Olaru (ROU)
v
[2] Cara Black (ZIM)
Sania Mirza (IND)

She might not get along with the idea.

Does anyone think the womens schedule is more logical. Its seems to make more sense with the 4 majors and 4 mandatories. I like it.

I posted this in another thread when the tournament first started. I still agree with it, though there has been no TV coverage for me to compare form.

Top half of the draw seems much harder than the bottom half to me. Maria to face fewer obstacles than Serena. I like her chances (but I'm rooting for Serena to defend).

Heather Watson and Eugenie Bouchard didn't even try to dress for the players party. I don't understand why they made the effort wearing pants knowing they would be photographed.

I hope Venus "get's her revenge" (as some here would call it) against Kvitova. Venus has struggled so frequently in early rounds that it would be nice to see her make a deep run in this tournament.

Maria is quiet. Her Soviet boyfriend is there, so maybe they are just laying low and avoiding the media. He's a good-looking young man. If I were 50 years younger and Eastern European, I might go for something like that..LOL.

LOL, how old are you Angie??!

ON CENTER COURT (I realized that only after the end of the match: Venus walked out)

Halep plays well to take 1st set from Petkovic
her best set in quite a while

and 2-0 Halep in the 2nd
but her level becomes erratic (22 errors to 7) then
and she loses the set
7-5

Halep back in the 3rd
3-0
but she's broken at love when serving for the set at 5-3
she's very unequal today with over 61 UEs

but she focusses when it counts, in the TB
and wins with
33 winners and 61 UEs

A very, very strange match, but Halep wins it, and more experience on center court.
