Dunno how many times I've typed up the same thing, but I do not understand Sabine's go for broke style of returning. Seems like half the time she doesn't even get the return in play.

Ivanovic - Lisicki 63 75. Another nice match by Ana.
It looks like Halep pulled out from singles as well, so Ana is in the SF.

She qualified for Singapure as well.

Yes, Halep retired from singles too: hip/thigh injury.
She will travel to Bucharest for medical consultations.
Not too good.
Let's hope she will recover until Singapore.

I know Simona is a very popular player but can we all agree that her 2014 resurgence will likely be the best tennis she will play in her career? In the landscape of Williams-Sharapova big hitters, she proven her inability to penetrate at the larger events.

I do applaud Simona's fashion sense during the Asian tour. She was properly dressed and presented herself in an elegant, lady-like manner. Simona is a great representative of the WTA. Cute girl.

LOL, how old are you Angie??!
Aged, like fine wine by the grace of Jesus Christ, my personal savior. I can still play tennis and jog. Never thought I would be able to at this age but the blessings continue. I still use wood racquets while playing contemporaries only. It is difficult finding a lot of women my age where I live who play tennis so I hit with my granddaughters/son a lot. I belong to a league, but it is seasonal and they are younger than me.

Serena could barely move after the first set. If it wasn't for her serve and Safarova's demons, she would've lost. Hope Serena recovers for the YEC.

She probably will be ok. But she is beat up. 6 titles and another full schedule. She needs to take it easier next year.

She can't afford to have another serious injury. If it happened it would be for good and she would have to retire. Better she withdraws and save herself up for YEC

Well, in the 3rd Safarova was trying to go for winners (and often missed) instead of moving Serena around as much as possible. Serena was just going for big serves/big returns, shortening the points as much as possible. If it wasn't for Serena's serve, Safarova might have taken it, I think.

Hmm, so Kvitova vs Stosur and Sharapova vs Ivanovic SF's.

Should be a Kvitova/Sharapova or Kvitova /Ivanovic final?

Halep will have emergency MRI on her hip tomorrow in Bucharest, with the results on Sunday. The WTA physios in Beijing did not expect a tear.

Question - why are they saying the Race to Singapore is over when there are still two weeks of tournaments left (inc a WTA prem in Russia for almost 500pts). Is China the official cut off week?

Other tournaments count as well, but Kerber can't make it even with titles in the next 2 weeks. She'll most likely be the alternate.

Kerber is 560 behind Wozza, so if she won a 280 next week and a 490 the week after, and Wozza does nowt, Kerber moves into 8th spot?

Or has the race possibly been declared over, I wonder, because Kerber isn't down for one of those smaller events next week?

Nope. It is a done deal and the eight players have all qualified. Ivanovic took the eighth and last spot. Woznaicki has the seventh spot.

no, you are assuming every tournament they played will earn points for them, but that's not true, only 16 tournaments will be accounted for. In Kerber's case, she has 24 tournaments listed this year, that's more than 16, so she will not add a net of 280 points or 490 points even if she manages to win both in the next two weeks, the points she earned from other international event or the premier event will be removed from her total points.

The results have leaked out and it seems to be just a sprain, not a tear. She will restart her training next week.

4DF, 3 aces, 4 MPs and 10 mins are all you need to know about Maria's last game to serve out the match

I don't think they really care about it) I mean, Maria with the win will have a shot at the year-end #1 if she does well in Singapore, while Petra... No one knows what motivates that girl)

I think they said either could challenge for number 1.

I hope Kvitty can pull this off but it isn't looking good.

No miracles here, congrats to Maria and her fans. She played really well this whole week. Hope Petra serves up some revenge at the YEC) still a nice week for her as well.

Woohoo,go Maria! When I voted for Maria,it was mainly wishful thinking after her poor play in Wuhan. So glad she managed to turn it around and win another big hardcourt title,it's been a long time coming...

Sharapova in at number two and Halep out. :) Good riddance Halep. Order has been restored. Now Kvitova needs to move ahead of Halep at number three.

No way Halep has a chance at winning the WTA finals either. She will probably be at or near the bottom of that competition.

Congrats to Maria. I had a feeling she'd win this one! Very happy she's back at number 2 as well. It was weird not having her as a top seed...kind of messes things up.

Why do you hate her so much?)) I mean, her #2 ranking doesn't mean that she is/was second best player in world
