2014 WTA Sudden Death League: Miami

TopDawg

G.O.A.T.
Welcome to the third edition of the 2014 WTA Sudden Death League season: Miami

Rules of the game:

1. Every day of the tournament that day's matches will be posted. You pick one player who you think is going to win. It's a knock out-system: if the player you picked wins, you're through to the next round. If she loses, you're out.

2. You have to pick one player per day through the Round of 32. In the R16, quarters, semis and finals you pick one player per round.

3. During a tournament, you can pick a player only ONCE. Obviously it's important to make smart choices in order to get far. If you somehow have no players left to pick, you're out as well.

4. You can't pick a player from a match that has started already.

5a. If the player you picked retires during the match, you're out. If he retires before the match, you're allowed to change your pick.

5b. If the opponent of the player you picked retires, it counts like a win. However, you can't pick a player whose opponent had already retired from the tournament.

5c. If you want to make a back-up pick in case your main pick retires BEFORE the match starts you may do so. Please make the backup pick in the same post as the original pick and you CANNOT chose your original picks opponent as your backup pick.

6. If you want to change you pick, make a new post quoting the old pick. Edited posts containing picks will not be taken into account.

Why not, I'll give it a go for my second WTA SDL tournament. I must say though that the WTA SDL is a lot harder and more unpredictable than the ATP SDL...for obvious reasons.

Sorry if I'm being dim, but aren't there first round matches scheduled for today? I saw Shedova on the schedule. Is it pick per day?

I think this tournament spreads the first round of the WTA out over 3 days as there are 12 first round matches today as well as the last of the qualifying matches. I remember one of the tournament last year had a really weird schedule that we argued about and I think this was it

So presumably we have to pick from the 12 today? The wta/atp app isn't particularly helpful as it doesn't differentiate between qualifying & 1st round matches on the schedule.
Does any one have an order of play?

It does. In the ATP/WTA live app, under the schedule, it says after every match either WTA or WTA-Q. The latter of course meaning qualifying.

Sorry. You're absolutely right- I hadn't scolled down far enough. So I'll pick from today's matches on the understanding it's a pick per day as stated in the rules.
Cheers

Omg if Kleybanova gets beat, it will be a bloodbath. So many of the matches today could go either way.....

Thank you Scheepers. I've only heard of her and a few others but haven't really seen most of them play. Just picked her. I think this is my second win ever in the WTA SDL, hopefully I can keep it going.

@SDL organizers, have you ever considered not stating to pick until the seeded players start playing? I feel like almost all of these matches are 50/50, not to mention I don't know who most of them are.
