http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Argentina_Open_–_Singles - the draw.

With defending champion Daveed Ferrer making the decision to play in Mexico. the tournament will find a new champion but who will it be?

Ah, I see Fognini had one of his days, losing 3 and 0 to Berlocq.....
Seems Cuevas is the only real threat remaining for Nadal now, although it could also be Robredo or his buddy Monaco he'll meet in the final.
He'll need to start better than yesterday though....

2014 Rio semi-final:
Nadal def. Andujar 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(10)

2015 Rio semi-final:
Fognini def. Nadal 1-6 6-2 7-5

And Fognini is far better than Andujar.
Nadal was an unforced error machine in that 2014 match, whereas this year's match was a case of Fognini coming up with great shots on big points.

You know what?

Nadal will have his hands full with Delbonis and Berlocq since they have been very impressive ClayCourters as of late either winning 250s or reaching finals.

I say Nadal might lose to either player.

I agree it won't be easy, but I think even when not playing his best, Nadal has a good chance of beating them, while Cuevas I feel is more dangerous overall atm. That said, you're right that if he starts like yesterday, Especially Delbonis could be a problem.

Thank god, you are finally in a position to purchase an internet plan after losing all your life's savings.

Fiji will retire in 2015.

Good to see Nadal bagel a player on clay again.

Bud, it was worrying to see Nadal winning 6-4 the first set against a player that just got his first ATP win. I am hugely surprised of that. The 6-0 in the second was the normal stuff, even if he is playing at 20%. Arguello has nothing to hurt him (or anyone, in fact)

JuaNads just lost the doubles to a qualifier & Delbo

Things not looking good for Nads so far

It may actually be a good for Rafa who seem to be physically weaker nowadays. He can just concentrate on the singles. The next match against Delbonis can be tricky. I liked his tennis when he beat Federer in 2013, but he hasn't done much since then. He may take advantage of Nadal's shaky form, who knows?

Delbonis played well against Fog at Rio. Should have won the match. If he brings that form, it could be interesting.

I agree Nads will need the break from Doubles however Berloq just gave Fopnini 3 games, Carlos even beat Fed one time I think but Delbo really needs to serve better than he did against Fopnini.

Shame really wanted to see Fop vs Nads but at least Delbo should be better most of the time on clay compared to Fop on a Foggy day.

Just came to know that there is a tournament going on in Argentina thanks to a conversation in Dubai thread. No TV coverage here.
Hard work on the paper route finally paying off. Or maybe the warmth of a public library?

Nadal too strong. Delbonis is still.... well.... disappointing to say the least. Good win for Rafa, and he should be able to beat Berloc easily. I think Almagro will meet him in the final and that one will be interesting.

Lol, I thought you were a Nadal fan cc0? Or is it just the fangirling you're rolling your eyes at?

I am not a fan to that degree. I can't watch that crap clay tournament with nobodies playing and I can't get excited about any shots Nadal makes vs somebody ranked 59th in the world!

Nadal is on a 15 match winning streak vs Federer/Djokovic/Murray at the slams.
The bigger issue is Nadal needing to beat the lower ranked players, as that has been his problem since losing to Rosol in 2012.

Do you think Nadal has another chance at the double career slam ?
I am thinking of betting a whole lot of my savings on Nadal winning the AO next year but wanted to consult with you first :-|

Its pretty sad when people are talking about Nadal beating nobodies in a 250 in south america. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Bet it. Nadal hit 22 winners in the 5th set of RG 13 SF. It took 6 hours for Djokovic to win the AO final.

Yeah of course.
I put my savings on Nadal every year at the AO (since 2014, because I've been hoping for that Double Career Grand Slam since then).
See when Nadal wins the Double Career Grand Slam, I want to be part of the victory by winning something myself.

You could say the same about when Nadal lost to a guy ranked 73 on clay in 2013.
And you know how that year ended....
See the key for Nadal winning multiple slams, is exactly what we're seeing right now.
You can't start a fire without a spark.

That's their rivalry in a nutshell.
Djokovic only got a look-in because he became more athletic than Nadal (when Nadal declined physically after 2008 and Djokovic physicality improved in 2011).
Once Nadal became more aggressive (going down-the-line more than ever, beginning in 2012 RG) things reverted back to Nadal, because Djokovic's athleticism was overshadowed by Nadal's aggression.
And that is why their slam h2h now stands at 9-3.

Naaa you really could not say that in 2013 in his first match back after 7 months off. Nadal is 14-8 since the French and now he is running around on clay at a 250 avoiding playing anyone. He is turning into a modern day Munster.

That 14-8 was partially to do with Nadal's appendix issue which he only played with to please the tournament organizers he made commitments to.
And a loss at Doha this year was obviously expected due to his rustiness.
Nadal just made the AO quarter-final while not being even ready to play, so are you sure you won't to go down that path?
I mean Nadal only made the AO quarter-finals in 2010, and we know what happened after that......he's won 2 US Open since then.
Nadal also only made the AO quarter-final in 2011.
So its not exactly a bad sign now is, it.
The only year Nadal lost at Roland Garros was 2009 (when he won the AO).
And Nadal would be a fool to play Dubai, because he made a successful comeback in 2013 by playing on clay early on.

Five of those 8 loses have come against wildcards and qualifiers. The other three have come from guys who have never beaten him. As much as some of you wish this is 2013 it aint.

Yeah but they were all expected, because you know Nadal has been upset at Wimbledon before (and even when he won his 2nd Wimbledon in 2010 he played 2 five-setters in the first week).
And you know Nadal was delaying his appendix surgery last year, so was going to play even worse than usual indoors.
And you know Nadal was making a comeback this year on the wrong surface (he really should have begun on clay, but was tempted by the AO).
2009/2012 = 2014.
2010/2014 = 2015.
I don't think anyone will be surprised by Nadal winning a couple of slam titles in 2015.
Despite what they all say, in their heart of hearts they know the drill.

Those loses were expected? Oh come on. Ok whatever there aint no way to convince you. Go watch your boy play around in Argentina. Lets see him at Indian wells and Miami. If he drops points there he will be out of the top 4. Draws start to get tougher and he will head into US hardcourt out of the top 5. Then lets see what he is made of.

This time in 2013 Nadal had only won Sao Paulo and Acapulco and Djokovic had won the AO and Dubai. Djoker was ranked #1 and Nadal was ranked #4. By the end of September, Nadal was #1 and indeed ended the year as #1.

Both Federer and Djokovic came out worse for playing Nadal before the SF or Final, because Nadal was ranked #4 or #5. Djokovic didn't make the final at RG because he ran into Nadal in the SF; Djokovic was also beaten by #4 Nadal in the SF of Montreal which Nadal went on to win. Similarly, Roger lost to Nadal in the QF at I/W when Nadal was ranked #5. So it's Federer and Djoker who need to worry about playing Nadal early in the draw.

Let's not forget that Delbonis, whom Nadal dispatched yesterday 1&1 actually beat a fully fit Federer on clay in Hamburg in straight sets in 2013.

This was the ranking on 25/02/2013:

1. Djokovic 12,960
2. Federer...9855
3. Murray....8480
4. Ferrer......6855
5. Nadal.......5755

Y/E #1 - Rafael Nadal

People were talking then that Nadal would go out of the top 10 but he was #1 at YE.. We'll see what happens this time round after his injuries, but I will not be too hasty in writing him off just yet.
