We're still 2 days away, but we've had this whole week to build up to the season ending Championships this year!

Roger Federer leads the H2H 14-6 (Berdy last won in Feb 2013). The two have never met at the WTF.
Who are you backing in this Stan Smith Group clash?

Hopefully Federer, but Berdych has won some big matches vs Fed before, though not in a while.Still as a first match this is tough knowing that there's still a match with Novak to come. If Berdych loses this he knows he's pretty much out, while if Federer loses he knows he has to probably beat Djokovic twice in a row to win the title.

This is a hard group for Fed. I'd rather him have played Nadal and Murray Than Djokovic and Berdych.

Federer to dominate this one and head into the semi as runner up to Djokovic.

This is really the big one for both right off the bat. The loser is likely to end up with 2 losses after they play Novak and might be eliminated.

That said, I pick Federer in 2 sets. One close and one not. Berdych knows how to beat Federer, but he hasn't done it in a while. Start of 2014 to now has been all Federer and the last 2 haven't been close.

K.

Berdych seemed in great shape against Djokovic in Paris. If he can replicate that and Federer comes with his "so-so" form of recently I think that Tomas could takes this something like 6-3 7-5. He had some big wins in the past against Roger and this should help him with his confidence if the match start the right way for him.

But I was pretty impressed by last a few matches of Berdych.

I think Berdych has done something to his game last a few months....

He has a 5-1 head to head over Nadal on indoor hard, and just bet him there in Basel. Berdych is unpredictable.

But you may be missing the point. Berdych may be easier than Nadal but as a combination where you either have Murray AND Nadal or you have Djokovic AND Berdych, I'd take the former. He's favourite vs Murray and on indoor hard favourite vs Nadal. On the other hand Djokovic is the man to beat and Nadal probably has as much chance of beating fed indoors as Berdych does.

Considering that Djokovic is in this group, this match is important for both players - would hope to see Federer bring his best here.

Had a dream Berdych won in straights. Premonition?

Anyways, I don't think Federer comes out flat for the YEC, so I'm expecting Sharperer in 2.

Berdy was disappointed after loosing to ND 7676. You could clearly see it. I think he will fight hard and win against Fed and then look for a revenge against ND.

Fed. But I fear this match. Birdman's been looking good this fall and Fed's level has taken a nose dive since the US Open. Hope he refinds the good stuff in time

Fed in 2 relatively easy sets, probably. Maybe one TB. It's Berdych's first match at this year's WTF, after all... He usually loses the first and wins the second. (Does that mean he'll beat Djokovic? o_O)

Was literally just about to post that stat about losing the first and winning the second. Read through the thread and thought of it straight away saw nobody mentioned it, then refreshed the page and saw you did. Wouldn't he play the loser of the other match? I thought that's how it worked? Or you reckon Nishikori is gonna get a shock win over Djokovic?

Oh, sorry, I think you're right that the losers play each other. I don't know what I was thinking. In that case, no shock victory anticipated, and I think it could go either way between Berdych and Nishikori.

Berdych in 2 for a shock.
That forehand at 1:15 and then 1.43, where is it gone?

the description on youtube of this particular moment is hilarious
after losing a tight and very close challenge, something went off in Tomas Berdych's head. What appeared next on his usually arrogant, expressionless face was a look of pure insanity. Combine Heath Ledger's Joker and the guy from 28 Days Later during the scene where he releases the zombies onto the military base and you'll get Tomas Berdych as he stared at the linesperson and Shotspot in disbelief*

I remember that video.

I actually love Berdych's tennis a lot. Fed vs Berdych is some of my favourite tennis of this last decade. They have had some great matches and I think it will be a good one tomorrow.

I wish Tomas won a slam; I was rooting for him all the way after he beat Fed at USO12. He has been unlucky to face Peak Djokovic and Stan at the AO though. I think he could have won the AO once if not for them.

Yeah, Berdych has perfect 100% losing record in first RR match and again perfect 100% winning record in second RR match.

For some reason this match at the US open 2012 is underrated

I watched a few videos of Berdych lately and he seriously declined recently, when you compare to his best matches (that forehand)

Nah, if Federer wins he'll play Djokovic whilst Berdy takes on Nishi - defo a match I can see him winning :)
