@tennis_pro please elaborate on the trolling actions of 2009, Vero seems to think Fed trolled Murray. I don't recall and don't trust her (who can't remember the details) that much on it.

Great times, I'm laughing to myself like a maniac now when I think about it. I wonder what was going through Murray's head at the time haha.

Federer-Del Potro was the last match of the group. It was so tight because the situation was changing every 5 minutes. Federer needed 1 set to go through, seemed no biggie against Del Po. But then Del Po started strongly, he won the first set 6-2 and led 5-3 in the 2nd set tie-break, one mistake from Fed and he's out of the tournament, basically. He somehow won 4 points in a row and secured his spot in the SF. However, we still didn't know who would also advance to the SF stage - Del Po or Murray. It looked like Federer was taking control of the match until out of nowhere he got broken at 3-4 in the 2nd set, Del Potro held and won the set 6-3. If Del Potro conceded one more single game, he'd probably be out of the tournament.

So it seemed that Federer trolled Murray out of the tournament. It looked like he lost 3 games in a row from 3-3 on purpose to advance alongside Del Potro. It was either a super coincidence or Fed was a genius troll.

@tennis_pro
you should go to Halle next year, who knows how many more years he's playing. Don't miss him!

Murray killed himself in 2008 beating Fed despite himself being through. Perhaps Fed felt cruel a year later..... Don't recall the Delpo match well enough to determine or not whether Fed gave it his best.

Like @TennisPro said , they were doing the win-loss game ratio after every game in Fed vs Delpo match and when they realized Fed qualified, folks accused him of taking the pedal of the gas.

So, who tanked the match this time?

Well it was multi layered tank job. A lot of manipulation and strategy. These guys are so in control of the ball they can plan. I'll give it to you game by game.

First Nishikori tanked by losing serve and Federer went up 3-1
Then Federer was afraid he would win and tanked his next two service games and Nishi went up 4-3
Nishikori was scared and then tanked and it became 4-4
Federer became delusional and thought Nishi would take him to a tiebreak but Nishi came out full force and tanked so Federer won the set 7-5
Nishi ran with his tanking momentum and Federer went up 4-1 in the second set.
Federer got really pissed and started blowing his nose and activated GOAT TANKING and lost the set 6-4
Federer continued to tank but Nishi was just able to out tank him so he didn't take the bp opportunities and instead tanked to give Federer the 4-1 lead.
Federer tanked again and gave the break back at 4-4 but he thought Nishi would at least take him to 5-5 and Nishi pulled the trigger and TANKED. Gifted Federer the final set 6-4.

It was tantalizing.

He is not in. Nishi would be in. Berd is out even if he wins 6-0 6-0 (lol)
Wrong:

4) If T. BERDYCH defeats N. DJOKOVIC in 2 sets and R. FEDERER defeats K. NISHIKORI in 2 sets, then R. FEDERER wins the group and T. BERDYCH qualifies 2nd.
5) If T. BERDYCH defeats N. DJOKOVIC in 2 sets and R. FEDERER defeats K. NISHIKORI in 3 sets, then R. FEDERER wins the group and T. BERDYCH qualifies 2nd.
6) If T. BERDYCH defeats N. DJOKOVIC in 3 sets and R. FEDERER defeats K. NISHIKORI in 2 sets, then R. FEDERER wins the group and N. DJOKOVIC qualifies 2nd.

Lucky you! I'm in a crappy position cause each time there's a tournament I'd like to see it's either too far away or I have exams at the same time. The closest (and cheapest) is Halle, I really have to go there one day, especially if Fed's there.

Yeah, I'm just wondering now. This is what wiki says:
5) Steering Committee decision.

Wonder what the criteria they would've used? "Murray is a Brit so we're taking him! Sorry Del Po!"

hehe, hope that happens one day. ATP would be in trouble deciding the better. Would be fun:D

cheers, you know what they say about that 8th game of a set (nah, it's the 7th).
2-6, 7-6, 3-6 it says on your pic. on p. 16.

Do you think there was some revenge in it? Murray fighting tooth and nail to put Fed out of the tournament in 2008 (while Murray was himself through iirc) and then going down easily in the semis.
You have some nerve to still be posting lol.
One thing about Vero: She'll never, ever, ever admit to being wrong about anything and will happily ignore you forever instead of admitting to her basic mistake and defamation of character.

Berdych has to beat Novak in straights...in which case it will be a 3 way tie between Novak/Berdych and Nishi(1 win each). They'll look at sets won and I think Nishi goes through then because he took a set off Fed.

So basically - Berdych beats Novak in straights - Fed and Nishi are through. If novak takes even a single set, it's him and Fed.

He is not in. Nishi would be in. Berd is out even if he wins 6-0 6-0 (lol)

Nope, Nishikori is out. H2H is irrelevant - person with the most set won % gets through.

Wow! These guys are so good. Tanking at professional level is very tough but guys like Roger and Kei can make it look so easy. I must congratulate Kei on out-tanking the experienced RF.

No, you didn't. He changed his mind about tanking when he realized he would have to face Nadal in semi ;)

Either he came in with everything calculated or he did not. You can't have it both ways. He would have already realized this -- you don't calculate everything coming in, and then suddenly realize in the 3rd set.

This is getting beyond ridiculous.

Isn't Nadal the winner of the group?

So he would play the 2nd guy of the other group: Djokovic.

Federer is the winner of his group so he plays either Stan or Murray.

Robie Koenig choked on question from other commie today with this sheet in front of him (prematch). Must have screwed it up again. I'm just going with published scenarios. They might be wrong, but doubtful. Koenig highly likely wrong.;) No wonder this thread is so screwed up today.

Yeah, that's why we were all the edge of our seats.

If I'm being honest they probably would've gone with the ATP rankings (like they would do this year if it happened) so Murray would've advanced :p lol...
Yea, it seems like a reasonable way to do it.
But seriously, i don't like this format. One reason many like tennis is because you have to win all matches to win the tournament, now a player that lost 2 rr matches can go through. But I guess its made up like that so its more matches to watch for those not that into tennis. They are taking the best players in one tournament to show them off. But sadly often the best matches are not on that surface.
If you ever went to WTF the set up is very different from all other tournament, its more of a social thing to go to and watch. little bit of a sircus. To promote tennis.

I am not going to be happy at all if Roger gets to play at 8pm on Sat.. The SF better happen back to back else I am calling BS.. This is the main reason why its tough for older players to dominate masters.. The scheduling it screwed up.

So the WTF could not have started one day early to make sure finalists are in the best shape?? Wud not be surprised if its a re run of 2014.. Fans loose...

The best was when Clarky caught Vero posting something nasty about Federer's twins a few years back and I think Vero ended up getting banned for it but Vero would never admit that she said anything bad about the Federer twins even though I think Clarky had quickly caught the post (which was deleted) and copied the comment for all to see (which I think was also quickly deleted.) Vero denied denied denied, lol. Clarky kept bringing this incident up and Vero kept on denying it. It was good comedy for a while.

I always answer to arguments (as long as I see the post and I have enough time). I don't answer personal attacks. Why would I? The only way to answer that is turning defensive or attacking back and I try to avoid personal attacks on others.
I also don't like when people keep opposing same arguments to mine and expect me to do the same. Once I explain my position, people can take it or leave it. No need to keep at something forever.

what does the bold mean? don't follow.

Everyone's been asking you: Why would Fed tank?
1) he risks facing Rafa in the semi by tanking, which you personally said would be worse
2) if he losts, Berdych would have no chance of reaching the semis -> less motivation.

Yet you still haven't backed down one bit from your personal attacks on Fed and Fed's lack of integrity.
Hence we attack you.
No wonder.

It's hard to clash with someone you share the same priorities with - that is hating Federer (first and foremost) and then loving Rafa.
I have no idea why people think I hate Fed. I give him credit for a lot of things. I have him as 2nd fav to win WTF and this week I posted that Fedovic were the 2 hard court GOATs.

I am pretty sure Federer did not deliberately tank vs Del Potro. Maybe he took his foot off the pedal when he learnt he had qualified but I seriously doubt he had calculated scenarios to the extent that he knew how many games he'd need to win to knock Murray out lol...lame conspiracy theory. And circa 2009 I am sure Fed would have preferred to face Murray in the final to Del Potro (USO final anyone?). Just another veronique lie.

and yet you wonder:

Fed is tanking of course. He's trying to stop Djoko from qualifying. It is not the first time he's done something like that at WTF. Fed really has no integrity at all.
Of course, it's a tactical tank. He did the same with Murray. Despicable mentality.
Some injury that was that he took the DC trophy home one week later...
It's normal Fed should be under suspicion at WTF since there was a precedent (with Murray) in the past. Not even mentioning what Fed did last year. Djoko OTOH has won his last 3 WTF without losing a match. No reason to suspect him of any foul play.

About the other thing: But you haven't - it wasn't in Fed's interest to tank whatsoever. You haven't admitted you were wrong on that. Nor that he didn't tank
