Don't believe the O2 courts will be as gritty and slow as Bercy. Stanimal will be a little more error prone in such conditions, so the resurgent Rafa takes this in straight sets, setting up a possible run to a WTF title against all odds.

Is he really DEFYING the odds anymore? Everything about Stan is from least 2/3 years and since then he has scored 3 wins vs Rafa, thats 1 more than his wins over Roger, Andy and Novak. If he is not fav, its atleast equal footing.

This feels like it will be an epic, this rivalry has evolved into a battle of equals now as far as on court play is concerned. Either can win. Can't wait. I think whoever wins it tops the group and avoids Djokovic in the semi.

The betting odds will favor Nadal simply out of popularity at this point. In 2013 Nadal narrowly beat Wawa at the WTF. Stan was experiencing the Norman affect and had soundly beaten Murray at the US Open and took Djoko 5 sets in the semifinals. Of course he would beat Nadal at the 2014 Australian Open. Looking at the rest of the Fall 2013 performance Wawrinka did not look to be playing as well as this Fall 2015. This would seemingly favor Wawrinka for Monday's clash, but I still favor Rafa in 2. This really should be a great match.

A sober prediction as both have done very well against Murray. Expecting Rafa to really see this possibility and come out swinging in this one. A Federer v Rafa semifinal seems a foregone conclusion as well unless Fed wins his group.

Stanimal is favored here, he showed on there last meeting he is going keep the match alive even behind and win, further he is rated higher than Nadal overall, which says he is playing better than Nadal.

Should be a really good match.

Cheers

I didn't think Nadal wanted to win the Paris match badly especially after losing the first set. Rafael takes this in straights.

Pretty much this. Plus I find it hard to believe he won't be as clutch in the big moments as he was in Paris.
Exactly, but not sure how to judge the state of Wawrinka's shoulder. Coming into Shanghai match less than a month ago, Wawa's shoulder problems had resurfaced against Cilic. Based on serve inconsistent serve velocity, the Wawa shoulder did not look 100% in the Djokovic loss at Paris. Wawa serving like at US Open (6 or more aces a set with great velocity), will make him tough to beat given the form of rest of his game.

Nishikori was quoted after his practice as saying the court plays really slowly, but I'm not sure who that favors more. I just hope Stanimal shows up and gives us a good match, like Paris or Rome or WTF 2013 rather than like Shanghai. If they're both in great form, this should be fantastic.

I don't really have any in depth analysis on this particular match, but I have a gut feeling that Nadal will take this one. He might be better off playing Stan now before he primes up if it's going to happen.

Nadal in 3.

I'd pick all 4 results if I could. Annoying that the one RR match thread I don't create has the most interest and greatest number of posts so far

I called the straight sets win by Stan in Paris. I think Nadal will make it more competitive this time. So Stan in three.

Should of known. We've had threads recently on this. Unless one of the other matches gets tight, this one might outdue the three others combined. Nadal, plus great match. I moved my plans for the evening for this one!o_O

Nadal in straights. Stanimal hasn't been impressive looking in a long time. Way too inconsistent and mentally just not there.

Since AO 2014, Wawrinka is 3-1 vs Nadal. Before that , Nadal was 12-0 and Wawa had never even taken a set from him!!!! Crazy reversal of fortune.
After the beatdown in Shanghai and the edge of the knife victory in Paris, this is their revenge match! How exciting.

3-1, no? their WTF 2013 encounter that I had the fortune to witness live foreshadowed it. Rafa won the match in two tight TB's, but Stan won 3 more points and 36 to 31 % of their respective return points.

This one's gonna be tight as well I feel - very close to 50-50
