And the match winner was the line judge

definitely not the fans who are robbed of a 5th set and a better match up for head trauma Kyrgios

Murray makes the ugliest faces
Make? he doesnt need to

What a sh*t ending.
Yes thank the fudge packer Ump

GOAT racket smashing though...
born on the Chinese year of the Metal Goat 1991

Commiserations to Grigor and his fans - he was absolutely outstanding today. I think this guy will win slams
Not with that BH & inferiority of his smelly tartpova

Disappointing. Dimitrov got 2 bad calls in those last few games and couldn't mentally get over them. He needs to get stronger mentally if he's going to be a top player. The net crd match point winner was just the salt in th wound though Murray probably would have served it out anyway.

Murray get's his revenge. Dimitrov has many more chances to go further at slams, so fear not.

Andy in 3 or 4 tough sets.

But he is going to win for sure.

:):):)

In the poll i voted for a 4th set win so..

COME ON ANDYYYY, what a match, brilliant from both players

BYE BYE DIMITROV.. THANKS FOR THE UNFORCED ERRORS IN THE 5-3 AND 5-5 GAME, YOU ABSOLUTELY GENIUS

Who's that moron interviewing Murray? How stupid to ask a player who's just gone through tough 3 and a half hour of tennis not 1, not 2, but 3 or 4 questions about his next opponent? And more questions. Absolute silliness.

Perfect "summary" of him. "Moron". I couldnt believe it, let the man go.

Murray accepted 2 points he could have conceded because he knew Dimi's ball was good. I've yet to see him display some sportsmanship.
he's certainly no Tim. Then again, who is? And against a player, who's stalled the game for the vast majority of the match? Best sportsmanship ever by Tim.

Murray did however display great sportsmanship in his muted celebration.

Congrats to Muzz, congrats to Dimi on a great effort. He's getting there, slowly but surely

An fantastic battle between these two. Both were playing some outstanding all court tennis. Really impressed with Dimitrov, he will win slams if he manages to put in that kind of effort consistently. As for Andy, he was hungry, determined, and in the end the stronger player. He looks good and motivated, and he can do some serious damage now.

Great win for Andy, upward and onward for the Muzz. :)

Does anyone have footage or a GIF of that Dimitrov Racquet smash? It was pretty epic, id like to see it again. (For Reference, it was the last point when he got broken for 5-6)

Particularly that 5-3 game, he was trying to do too much with his shots, it killed him.

That happened because he was like "scared" or because he was too confident that he was going to make those shots in that critical part of the match??

You have to take risks of course, but like you said, it was too much maybe..

Nadal and Djokovic are the best at conceding points. They do it all the time. Murray has never done it ever.

Nadal hardly ever concede points. When he does on rare occasions it's because he's way ahead. Djokovic concedes points far more often than Nadal.

That's my feeling as well, but you'd really need unbiased evidence to say anything definitive.

Anyway. This was a really good match. I think it's safe to say that Murray in terms of quality is back where he should be.

He's found stability on his shots, not spraying errors like he did much of 2014. He's found better controlled aggression. His serve has seemed to work well, really employing that sliced serve on the deuce court. His second serve looked better today, but still suspect. Also he's obviously moving really well, having worked on his fitness in the off season.

I think he beats Kyrgios in 4 sets and granted Nadal goes through we have a blockbuster ahead of us.

I'm a Nadal fan and have watched a lot of his matches. I hardly ever see him concede points. Though I might have missed out on matches where he did in fact do that. But to say he's one of the best in the game along side Djokovic to do that? Nah.

Pretty sure he conceded a point to Monfils in their 5 set FO semi final last year. He also conceded a point to Verdasco in the same slam.

Facts straight first?

New thread:

"Is Dimitrov better than Gulbis smashing a racquet" ??

Nadal and Djokovic are the best at conceding points. They do it all the time. Murray has never done it ever.

Unfortunately he has and the last time I remember him doing it was when he did it twice in a match against Verdasco at the French last year. It meant having break point chances so they weren't exactly frivolous points to give away

I remember very well the one vs Verdasco
Murray seems to be a nice guy, to me definitely the less fake of the "former big 4"

Just coming in to say that it was an excellent match but the organizers should not have used this occasion to stage their 'Umpire Amateur Hour' reality show.

Great tennis, horrible umpiring. Grigor is too nice. McEnroe would have choked the fat guy on the chair.

Murray is just a better and more talented player than Dimitrov.

"Several grand slams" LOL, for now lets hope he wins even one. I definitely hope to see him win a slam one day. You can't fault the effort the guy puts into these matches.

Grigor just cursed to be 10-20 ranked player and never winning any major at this point ?? he just can't beat top players in major tournaments........... he may not be as talented as we thought..................

BABY FED is = Fed Pretender ?

I can already see Muzza winning Wimbledon this year. Written in the stars. He has lovely astrology at SW19 this year.

Overall high quality match but ended with little drama in anticlimactic fashion. Line persons did their best ensuring match not going to fifth, Murray's contribution was significant as well.

I'm happy for Dimitrov, he really played very offensive, showed never say die attitude throughout the match and very clutch under pressure. He seems to be worked on forehand off season which looked more like offensive weapon rather than rally shot. With Murray returning and defending brilliantly, he did great job on ground keeping it close. He really needs work on mental aspect though, He choked similar way like he did against Djokovic in Wimbledon wasting good opportunity to push in decider. I think he played much better than last (pushed Nadal), if he maintains level definitely he's claiming big titles this season.

Murray has perfect set of tactics that he used against Federer here two years ago. He stuck with those and came victorious. Significant improvement in mental department, this was first time he showed positive attitude on court recently under pressure.. Psychological help seems to be working as expected. Really impressed with him implementing same physically taxing game even after surgery at this age. Many fades away physically around 27-28 with physical grinding taking toll. He seems to be in top physical shape at the age Men's physical decline starts. This physical era of Tennis seems to be breaking definition of physical peak. ATP has no problem or shame allowing this.

I think Murray has got great chance making finals here considering his form here.

LOL. How long are people going to be saying this for? Dimitrov is a talented player but he is not slam winning material IMO. Kyrgios will achieve more than Dimitrov I am pretty sure as long as Kyrgios can handle the pressure and do the work needed.

When has Nadal ever conceded a point? And why should any player concede a point? This is a pro sport not a quilting competition.

Is Dimitrov the first person to ever break a racquet in half through a smash from just one hit? I've seen players smash racquets continuously and can't even dent it.

I remember both of those, not least because the comms were criticising him for it!

Racquet smashing GOAT?

On one hand, Dimitrov was lucky to even get to today's match, but he is a bit unfortunately getting Murray at this stage of the tournament, due to Murray's 5-8 seeding, same as happened at the Paris Masters. It's a little bit like how Murray kept getting Djokovic at the QF stage for a while.

Murray was the better player, and deserved to win, but he should have won the 2nd set, and let a lot of break point opportunities go. Just because he's good at creating them, doesn't mean he can squander them.

Please. Youngsters these days, no respect for the craftmanship and finesse of ye goode olden days.

Check out Safin vs Lapentti, MC 2009. After a disputed point at the net Marat loses and throws casually his racquet towards his bench. The racquet hits the bench and jumps back cleanly broken in two. Class, panache, control, frustration carried to an art form.

She doesn't have time for that. She is the real competitor/winner out of that duo. ;)

Jokes aside, I think its unreasonable to consider Dimitrov a subpar competitor.Even in the final game he still had belief he could break back. I think its safe to say that Dimitrov won't win a dozen majors now, but he can definitely improve a lot moving forward. I came into this thread earlier and pretty much said some harsh things about dimitrov, but I'm watching the replay of the match now and am withdrawing my previous comment. He is still 23 and will undoubtedly have more chances at majors.

I thought Murray would win in straights but he had his usual choking moment when he served for the match in the third. Oh well
