It has been a slippery slope for Fognini. Ranked #13 just 1 year ago, he is now ranked #30. But even at his best he never had the game to trouble Novak or Federer, having gone a combined 0-10 against them in his career.

Yet in Rio he showed that even a past his prime clown has what it takes to beat Nadal.

Can Fognini prevent Nadal from vulturing a clay 500 for the 2nd time this season?

i say it's on Fognini's head whether he takes out Nadal atm.
he can do it with his set of tools, but probably cash out mentally.

If Nadal can go through Fognini, Ferrer, and Nishikori consecutively to win this, then he will likely gain a lot of confidence.

I don't think Fognini will get him again. Nadal in 2

I don't think so.

Nadal in two.

Generally speaking, Fognini does not have much chance. The variable is that Fognini is a guy who may pay incredible tennis if he is in good mood or break down if he feels bad. That's the funny part of the coming match. But I think Nadal will win in 2, unfortuntely.

The Fog throws his matches against Nole or gives him a WO as they are best of friends.

Was in top 20 as recently as January, he just was unlucky and lost in the first round of Aus open where he was defending 4R points. But he's instead now having a good doubles career winning the Aus Open and the finals at Indian Wells and Monte Carlo.

Fabio can be such a pleasure to watch, but on the flipside, can be so annoying to watch also.

Rafa to roll in straights. Amazing to think that after last years FO, he has only won one title. Injuries have been his worst enemy.

He never seemed like suffering from any physical injury since the FO win last year, that's for sure. (There are people still doubting if he really had an appendectomy, but in any case that kept him down for a max of 6-8 weeks or so).

There is absolutely nothing wrong with him physically which is why I am very confident of him winning the FO again. All he needs is some good matches which will give him confidence and in no time he will be back to his clay beast mode.

Does Nadal really vulture?
Isn't Federer known for that more so?
Federer has WAY more titles than Nadal despite having a few less masters titles....
BTW your avatar is funny, considering Nadal has won his last 4 slam meetings with Djokovic (and they've all come during Djokovic's prime, and not during Nadal's prime)

If we look at the Monte Carlo semi-final the other day, in the 1st set at 3-3 Djokovic needed more than 10 minutes to hold serve.
In the 2nd set at 3-3 Nadal was up 40-0 and got broken.
Those were the 2 biggest games of the match by far, and there is no way Djokovic would win them both if the match was at Roland Garros (bouncier clay, far bigger behind the baseline, more pressure etc.).
So I think if Nadal duplicates his Monte Carlo form at Roland Garros, Djokovic is toast.
Nadal need not improve, he'll win Roland Garros if it was played right now.
