A potential thriller. These two always have closely contested matches.
Federer leads the H2H 12-6, and have never met at Indian Wells before.
Federer upped his form against Sock, while Berdych had a tough match against Rosol.
I feel this match could go either way.

Fed's ground game was looking pretty spot on in the match vs Sock. Berdych was frustrated by the lack of rhythm Rosol was giving him. However, Berdman has the game to trouble Rogi, we'll see.

Federer in 2 (posted this in confident mood) :)

Berdych absolutely owns Federer. I think the reason for this is unlike other big hitters, Federer's strategic niceness hasn't caused him to take it easy on Federer. Whereas other guys who could bully Federer around the court and blow away his soft shots feel bad about it and take it easy on him, costing them the matches, Berdych is immune to that. He goes out there and makes Federer look like a child.

Have you been drinking, Sir? :-?

Haven't seen Berd man playing in this tourney but I assume he's been really good judging by the results. A tough assignment for Federer. Very even match. But then, Berdych match has been a good indication of Federer's form, so if Fed wins convincingly, that means he has a good chance to win the whole tournament.

Both men have not played anywhere near their best so far in IW. Berdych has been really strong this year, though. Will be tight, and that's why Federer will win, I think ;) Berdych has the potensiale to beat everyone, for sure.

Berdych always seems to play better against Fed while he mentally gets overwhelmed v. Nadal and Djokovic. AO victory against Nadal must be a big psychological boost, though. I think he will be dangerous to Federer.

Not even gonna argue.
You might actually have a point with this in a twisted way.

Nice profile pic.

This will be the toughest of the quarter finals. Berdych can seriously wreck the party that the big four are setting up in the desert.

Tough choice! If Fed is on-spot, he'll win.
Trouble is... when he isn't, Berd is (aside from Nadal, of course) one of the opponents who are very capable of causing a lot of trouble to him.

Quite simple: will depend on whether Fed is on-spot.

Hoping for an entertaining match, and yesssss! I hope I will be able to watch!~

You actually agree with him?

You think big hitters don't want to play good cause fed comes across as nice?

No, definitely not.

The "bullying Federer around the court" bit though, maybe.
Several players seem to do that now as Fed declines.

Berd threat looming large for Roger. Maybe it's a matchup issue, but Roger's serve and game doesn't seem to cause many problems for Berd.

Rogi won their only match since becoming Fedberg (Dubai'14 final) so maybe the more aggressive tactics will hold true again. It will be a good one...Fedberg in 3.

I'm gonna look past Bird Brain's 6-12 overall record, and just like at it from 2010 on: 5-4 in his favor. How, exactly, does that translate into "owning" Federer?

Looking forward to this. Hope to see Federer find his groove from Dubai. I think I'll have white wine with todays match, welcoming spring to the cold north.

I think Fed will win it if he plays to his usual high standard.
Big Berd just does not have the belief he can do it if he sees a nicely anticipating, elegant glide/moving and happy hitting Fed.

Federer's rise to #2 in 2014 was partly due to injuries/surgeries of top 10 players
like Nadal, Murray, Del Potro and Tsonga. Berdych was one of top 10's who
started to beat Federer with more frequencies from 2012.

This is a test whether Federer really improved with his new frame (and increased net game) or not, IMHO.

yeah, of course , facing and beating Novak djokovic world #1 twice in straights, shanghai and dubai is not a test of whether federer has improved with his new frame/increased net game

next we'll be hearing about how muster and agassi, guys of the 90s had a better net game than federer !

and no, del po and tsonga would not have been ahead of federer in 2014 regardless of whether they were injured or not , murray maybe, nadal probably.....

I agree. I'll be looking at this match carefully. Fed needs to serve well, be sharp at the net and have a good day with his backhand.

Also, with the scheduling Fed would have to play three days in a row, so if he comes through this he has a really hard road ahead. The scheduling is awful.

Apparently any test that Fed "passes" is not a real test - Not the Dubai/Shanghai ones against Djokovic, and definitely not the 2014 Final against Berdych in Dubai. We just imagined Fed won that against Berdych by using his new racquet/net game
