It's the fact that they're not pushovers. Perennial top 30 guys. Robredo always battles and Lopez has some weapons and can sometimes play some high level tennis.

QF Nishikori is a cakewalk, has nothing to hurt Rafa with on hardcourt.
On clay Nishikori can hurt Rafa because he's quicker than Rafa, but on hardcourt Rafa hits through him like its nothing.
Nishikori can only beat stupid dumb clowns like Djokovic.
 
Yay! Finally the boys are back. Looking forward to some great tennis.

Interesting draw. Semis could be something with Novak, Stan, Andy and Rafa all make it.
 
Rafa with the most votes I see. Well, if he can pull it off, it would quite a statement. Likely Kei, Andy and one of either Novak or Stan.

But Murray isn't going to be easy pickings for Nadal. And if he gets to the final, neither will that be a walk in the park.
 
I still remember in 2007, there was a post tournament player's party after the event. Djokovic had won the title that year, and when he was sitting at his table, one of the waiters brought him the most expensive champagne bottle there. Novak asked who sent it, and the waiter pointed towards the table across the room. It was Nadal, who smiled and toasted Novak from his table. I thought that was quite classy of Rafa.

Of course Rafa then would go into panic mode, because there were no flights to take him and his girlfriend to Cincinnati. So Roger gets Rafa and his girlfriend to come with him and Mirka, and they played cards, boys against girls on the flight. Great stuff! :)

I never said they were pushovers, just that Murray hasn't lost to either of them since 2007 (Robredo). Obviously, Murray will have to be back to his best (and not like he was in Washington this week) but if he is, then I think it is the other 2 who will be feeling more nervous.

Youzhny goating in qualifying at the moment. Let's hope it lasts!

Hoping Jo can win it again, and if he brings his best form like he has in previous years here, he very well may have a good chance at defending his title. If Tsonga's on, the only one I can see taking him out in his half is Murray.

I read this in an article back in 07. Rafa bought Novak the most expensive bottle possible to congratulate him on his epic run that week, and then got a lift from Roger to Cincinnati. Rafa also mentions that he and Roger joked about swapping RG and W titles. :)
 
Murray needs to beat Djokovic and here's me hoping he can finally stop playing the Sub role at Montreal. Though I'd be happy if Rafa, Tsonga, Raonic or Thiem does well.
 
I think it will be Nishikori. Tbh, Nishikori is the only threat to Novak besides Stan.
 
Only 1 of 5 Canadians made it to the 2nd round in qualifying. That was Brayden Schnur, who beat 12th seed Ruben Bemelmans 6-4 6-3.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: We have a few pretty good players but we've got crap all for depth. We'll get there though!

not sure I've seen so many of the top singles players in the doubles draw...thought I read Nadal was playing with Murray...but he's playing with Verdasco...all Spanish, all the time
 
It will interesting to see what the Serbian Express does with tournament, 1/2 of the Swiss Express has taken a vacation.

Just noticed the Doubles draw is completely stacked even in the first round.

Nadal/Verdasco v Berdych/Sock
Murray/Paes v Anderson/Chardy with potential Murray v Murray 2nd round.
Djokovic/Tipsarevic v Troicki/Seppi
Hewitt/Kyrgios v Monfils/Tsonga

Whoever comes out on top of this can be safe in the knowledge they've won The Real Slam this year.
