For some reason I thought Groth would be playing this. I gave a thumbs up for Ivo. Let's see.

I'm really interested to see how Tomic does amidst all the Tennis Australia drama lately. Otherwise, yeah, I like Karlovic here. He's had a really good grass court season. Hopefully he can close it out with a title.

Spent an afternoon in the hall of fame last fall on a trip to Newport. If you haven't been, it is the holy grail for tennis players and fans of the game. The memorabilia through the ages is well worth the trip. Just as interesting, I had the chance to watch a father and son doubles tournament Royal or Court tennis match. I've seen you tube clips of play but you have to see it live once!

Chosen Tomic. Hopefully he isn't affected by the stupid Tennis Australia drama. Also did anyone see the mistake this morning? It's all over Aussie media. They "accidentally" posted that Tomic would play JP Smith at the "Hall of Shame tennis championships"

Tomic v JP Smith will be an interesting match up, 2 Aussies. Tomic should get to the QF where he'll probably face Steve Johnson who he just lost to last month. If he can pull that off he'll probably face Isner who the h2h is 0-1. If he can pull that off, Karlovic in the final I like the chances. He leads the h2h 3-1 including defeating him at the Bogota final last year.

Last year's Wimby boys champ Noah Rubin has a WC and plays Ito today. Will be interesting to see if he can win a round or two. He took the college route for a year and made the finals of the NCAA but has turned pro and is working the Futures tour...a SF and a final on HCs in Oklahoma leading up to Newport.

I don't get why some of the higher ranked grass court specalists don't play?

Don't the top players have to play a certain amount of 250's and 500's? Seems like a good opportunity for a grass specalist. They should be well tuned for the grass by this point and there is a title up for grabs with no top 10 players around.

For a few of them, two words...Davis Cup!

Mm poor Bernie. But awesome work for JP Smith! That's his first ever ATP tour win! Great work! He's come close many times, including at Wimbledon a few weeks ago.
Tomics ranking will suffer. Cause of the one week later difference to last year. He was defending his Bogota title so he will lose 250 points and will fall about 10 spots.

Rubin lost a tough three-setter but fellow teenage American Jared Donaldson got through in another tight one over Austin Krajicek.

With Taylor Fritz, Reilly Opelka, Francis Tiafoe and Stefan Kozlov coming down the pipe, American success may be just around the corner.

I misunderstood, sorry. Wow, that sounds catastrophic. Do you think he could be throwing matches for money now?
I think this media attention has thrown him and he's struggling to recover. Considering how outspoken his abusive father has been about TA I'm sure there's some family drama at play as well.

Thanks Australia.

I saw the end of the Tomic match and was shocked at his obvious lack of effort.Tomic wasn't even bothering to run for the ball with any proper urgency or effort.

Rampras pulled it off!!! He's done really well! Good to see him still hanging around tour, although he did go to my rival high school haha.

Yea isner fans!!! Back up the big gawk again! Just lost to an Indian that doesn't even know what a tennis ball is

Ram has been in the top 100 before and has even won the Newport title before. He has also been a solid doubles player for many years.
