Play gets started on Friday with these 16 teams in the field:

#1 USC
#2 Oklahoma
#3 Virginia
#4 Georgia
#5 Illinois
#6 Duke
#7 North Carolina
#8 Ohio State
#9 Texas
#10 Baylor
#10 UCLA
#13 California
#15 Columbia
#17 TCU
#19 Ole Miss
#22 Penn State

If the rankings hold these would be the 1st Round pairings:

[1] USC vs. [16] Penn State
[8] Ohio State vs. [9] Texas
[5] Illinois vs. [12] California
[4] Georgia vs. [13] Columbia
[3] Virginia vs. [14] TCU
[6] Duke vs. [11] UCLA
[7] North Carolina vs. [10] Baylor
[2] Oklahoma vs. [15] Ole Miss

I think if Baylor and UCLA were tied at 10 that Baylor would edge ahead this week based off a road win at Tulsa while UCLA beat a few cupcakes. It's possible that Illinois and/or Duke could move up to 4 since Illinois hammered Kentucky and Purdue and Duke soundly beat Tennessee and Michigan while Georgia edged Georgia Tech. I think everyone else will stay in the same place.

I'll add a poll once they finalize the draw.

Thinking they place Top 8, then random draw for the rest? At least they did that for the women.

Thinking they place Top 8, then random draw for the rest? At least they did that for the women.

The men have always seeded 1-16 - here's 2014's bracket

I saw in the guide it said the women were randomly done from 9-16 and they had the provision where teams from the same conference couldn't meet in the round of 16 whereas the men through that out a few years ago.

They probably bumped UVA over UGA due to the head to head win.

Draw
[1] UCLA vs. #26 Kentucky
[8] #9 Georgia vs. #15 Michigan
[4] Duke vs. #20 TCU
[5] California vs. #11 Vanderbilt
[6] Alabama vs. #12 Miami
[3] North Carolina vs. #16 Oklahoma State
[7] #10 Virginia vs. #14 USC
[2] Florida vs. #13 Clemson

Participants:
#1 UCLA
#2 Florida
#3 North Carolina
#4 Duke
#5 California
#7 Alabama
#9 Georgia - seeded 8th
#10 Virginia - seeded 7th
#11 Vanderbilt
#12 Miami
#13 Clemson
#14 USC
#15 Michigan
#16 Oklahoma State
#20 TCU
#26 Kentucky

If they followed rankings and didn't have conference provision it would have been:

[1] UCLA vs. #26 Kentucky
[8] #9 Georgia vs. #11 Vanderbilt
[4] Duke vs. #15 Michigan
[5] California vs. #14 USC
[6] Alabama vs. #13 Clemson
[3] North Carolina vs. #16 Oklahoma State
[7] #10 Virginia vs. #12 Miami
[2] Florida vs. #20 TCU

Draw is out:

[1] USC vs. [16] Penn State - 3:30pm cst
[8] Ohio State vs. [9] Texas - 3:30pm cst
[5] Illinois vs. [12] California - 6:30pm cst
[4] Georgia vs. [13] Columbia - 6:30pm cst
[3] Virginia vs. [14] TCU- 9am cst
[6] Duke vs. [11] Baylor - 9am cst
[7] North Carolina vs. [10] UCLA - 12pm cst
[2] Oklahoma vs. [15] Ole Miss - 12pm cst

UCLA got the 10 and Baylor the 11 after they were both tied for 10th last week.

Master Lineups along with the ITA's policy on substitution:

Line-Up Substitution Policy: Master line-ups must be played throughout the event. If a player is removed from the line-up, all players listed below the removed player will move up in position. “Shuffling” of line-up is NOT permitted. In doubles, you may direct line substitute for a sick/injured player as long as the teams are still playing in order of ability. The opposing coach may protest a doubles line-up if he feels they are not in order prior to the start of the match. The on-site ITA Games Committee will have final ruling on all on-site protests.

Some singles lineup changes from the Kick-Off Weekend:

USC has moved Eric Johnson up from 5 to 4 and dropped Max De Vroome from 4 to 5. I believe De Vroome hasn't been at 100% lately.
UCLA has moved Martin Redlicki up from 4 to 3 and Gage Brymer down from 3 to 4. Austin Rapp has moved up from 7 to 6 while Joseph DiGiulio goes from 6 to 7.
Texas has moved Lloyd Glasspool from 3 to 2 and Adrien Berkowicz from 2 to 3. Nick Naumann moved from 5 to 4 and George Goldhoff from 4 to 5 though Goldhoff didn't play during the KO.
TCU has moved Arnau Dachs up from 4 to 3 and Will Stein down from 3 to 4.
Duke has moved Nicolas Alvarez up from 2 to 1 and moved Jason Tahir down from 1 to 2. Raphael Hemmeler has moved up from 4 to 3 and Bruno Semenzato down from 3 to 4.
Ohio State has moved Herkko Pollanen up from 4 to 3 and Ralf Steinbach down from 3 to 4.
Baylor has moved Max Tchoutakian up from 4 to 2, Tony Lupieri down from 2 to 3, Diego Galeano down from 3 to 4, Vince Schneider up from 8 to 5, Mate Zsiga down from 5 to 6, and Felipe Rios down from 6 to 7 - whole different lineup except for Julian Lenz at 1.
Penn State has moved Matt Barry up from 4 to 3 and Roman Trkulja down from 3 to 4.
North Carolina has moved Oystein Steiro up from 6 to 5 and Jack Murray down from 5 to 6.
Georgia has moved Wayne Montgomery up from 3 to 1 and Nathan Pasha down from 1 to 3.

.
Ole Miss using new #3 Team Lindmark/Hamilton 2 Lefties, could be a solid team although Hamilton is raw

It seems like Georgia is shuffling their entire doubles line-up and that UNC is making changes at #1 and #2, without Esben Hess-Olesen.

#1 Wagland/Smith (Duals: 0-0)
#2 Pasha/Diaz (Duals: 0-0)
#3 Oosterbaan/Montgomery (Duals: 0-0)

#1 Schnur/Steiro (Duals: 0-0)
#2 Clark/Kelly

Good catch - I really didn't look over doubles much.

I think Manny needed to do something because the Smith/Diaz pairing has grown a little stale and Wagland/Oosterbaan weren't getting it done at 1 losing 4 of 5 with most of them not close at all.

There is potential to have 3 matchups in the Final 8 this week that would be rematches of Final 8 from NCAA tournament last spring in Athens.

USC vs Texas
UVA vs Baylor
OKlahoma vs UNC

So the current lineup includes Junior-with-Junior at #1, Senior-with-Senior at #2, and Freshman-with-Freshman at #3. Maybe they will eventually have the six best players in the doubles lineup, to include Nick Wood.

Wednesday.

Georgia has moved Wayne Montgomery up from 3 to 1 and Nathan Pasha down from 1 to 3.

Dawg, so they were really really afraid of Winston Lin........lol.

Nathan probably told coach Diaz that he was too afraid to play Winston..........

Pasha beat Lin last month - it's about putting out the best lineup to win it all and having Wayne at 1 and Pasha at 3 gives them the best chance to win both those courts in each potential match.

Confused, how does putting Wayne at #1 help to win that court ? Wayne has trouble winning at #3 court..............lol

UNC has some health issues but I like their chances OK against UCLA indoors. After that I am not too confident.

WOW, 12 degree in Chicago and feels like Minus 8 degrees. I know they are playing indoors but this will affect their strings and way they play.

For mainly the outdoor teams like UCLA and USC, should they string Looser on the tension ? but then you are playing indoors which is very fast conditions, so you have to string little tighter..........so which one ?? lol

If Schneider doesn't play I think they definitely lose - if he plays but Hess-Olesen or Steiro sits then I think it'll be mighty close.

What if any upsets does anyone think could happen?

I think #14 TCU has a decent shot to upset #3 UVA in the first round. This is how they could do it:
  • An in-form Cameron Norrie takes down Frank at #1 singles
  • Will Stein beats Collin Altamirano for the second time in two weeks (the first coming in the qualies of the Dallas Challenger) at #4 singles
  • No. 112 Guillermo Nuñez gets the W over J.C. Aragone at #6
  • Then, for the 4th point, the Horned Frogs would need to take the doubles point, #85 Lugones to beat the freshman Ritschard (probably their best shot), OR #48 Chappell to beat #4 Shane at #2 (unlikely, but doable). Can't realistically expect Dachs to beat Kwiatkowski at #3.

you are going to fly all the way out there from Georgia ?? WOW

could you make some HD videos like Maxim did and put it in You tube ?

Driving from St. Louis - I'll have the video camera but getting good angles indoors is tough when the seating is on the side of the court...so my guess is I probably won't get much video.

Can someone confirm - are there just 6 courts with live streaming? 3 for Duke-Baylor and 3 for UVA-TCU? I haven't been watching long enough to know what courts they are. Thanks!

deacbb

Rookie
yep, i've got it figured out now...every match will stream just those 6 courts, which will be all dubs matches, and courts 1, 2 and 3 of singles. UVA is 5, 6, and 7, Duke is 9, 10, and 11. Not sure why live stats isn't up yet.

as usual the ITA drops the ball on livescoring at a major event.
Pathetic, videos don't load and livescoring is not functioning in timely fashion

are we to assume that Altamirano got hurt in dubs? I thought the order of the lineup 1-5 couldn't be switched. He is not in his #4 spot and they have bumped Ritschard and Aragone up a spot, and inserted MS from #8 which they are allowed to do.

Anyone have live stats for cts 4-6 UVA/TCU and 5-6 for Duke/Baylor
nothing updated for them

if he gets pulled after doubles, everyone is bumped up a spot and then #7/8 feel the 6 slot
