Yeah, it's a huge stretch for the #1-ranked recruit in the nation to be playing #4 in the line-up.

Just to play devils advocate, is Aron Hiltzik even the best freshman on the team? I have only seen him play in person at the 2014 Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens. Aleks Vukic had a better tournament and probably the main reason that he is ranked higher.

Round of 16
Alex Ghilea (Oklahoma) def. [16] Aron Hiltzik (Illinois), 6-2, 6-4
Aleks Vukic (Illinois) def. #17 [3] Nathan Pasha (Georgia), 1-6, 6-2, 7-5

Round of 8
Aleks Vukic (Illinois) def. Nick Papac (Oklahoma), 6-2, 6-2

Round of 4
Alex Ghilea (Oklahoma) def. Aleks Vukic (Illinois), 4-6, 6-2, 6-4

I'm pretty surprised as to how low Vukic is playing on the Illinois team.

Let's face it, all coaches do a little strategy here and there. Many of these players on these teams are very close in ability anyway.

That's a fair point.

I would say that Aron Hiltzik is playing better now than he was in the fall. He's even had some wins at #2 (against Kentucky, for instance).

Vukic, however, went though a little dip in his performance after the fall. I think it's a close call between the two at this point.

If Harris beats Schnurr, that would be a a serious upset. Harris hasn't played well in awhile. I'd have to think UNC thought they would get that one.

Thai-Son with what looked like a bad call from the live feed. It didn't even touch the line, looked to be more than a foot in from the live feed at least.

Baylor always does this. They always tease a big upset but rarely ever come through with it. Lupieri would need a big mental recovery to outlast Thai-Son now

Impressed with Oklahoma. After losing the doubles point and I thought Schnurr would handle Harris that UNC would pull that off.

That was impressive from OU. And Harris tends to step up vs the other top players. It's vs the slightly lower ranked guys where he tends to struggle more.

Harris has to be the most perplexing player in college tennis. The better the opponent the more likely he is to win it appears.

Great win from Baylor who are very deep this year and seem to have some decent doubles going.

Very impressive win from Ole Miss but UCLA seem a bit off the level they've shown over the last couple of years. No one really backing up MacDonald at the moment...

Osu falls to a superb usc Team. Osu so great Team from 1 to 6 but Lack of real #1 Player will hurt allways. And #2 still just a freshman

OSU just missing a standout #1 this year. The last couple of years they really relied on Kobelt and to an even greater extent Rola leading from the front. Their loss also effects the doubs strength as well.

Matches just finished in two hours. One hour wait until the next matches come on. Perhaps the match shortening was overdone, and we could afford pro sets in doubles after all.

too bad for UCLA .. not much chemistry on that team... too bad Marcos Giron didn't come back ,he's a good guy and would have been a great leader to pull the team together .. there's no real leader on that team...

I said yesterday I thought Baylor was a contender. Didn't see them beating UVA though. That is a pretty big upset.

Two seniors finishing it off today for Baylor (Tony Lupieri and Mate Zsiga). Getting chance to host the NCAA championship this year could be an interesting time for them. They get another chance against Oklahoma tomorrow after going 1-2 against them last year. All three matches ended 4-3 and one was played at ITA indoors.

sigh. cheaters never prosper blah-lor. they'll choke in ncaas. i wouldnt worry if i was uva. b12 season will be a bloodbath with the level now. wow.

Big doubles point for Georgia - Wagland/Smith were down 5-3 on 1 and got it to a TB and won the TB 7-4. 2 double faults from Illinois in the breaker.
