The 2nd Clay Masters of the year!
Nadal comes into the tournament as twice defending champion, where Nishikori retired in the 3rd set of last years final.
Djokovic has chosen to withdraw from Madrid this year, as he did in 2014 also.

Murray > Raonic > Anyone but Nadal > Nadal

Huge chance for players below Nadal to make headway here so Raonic/Nishikori/Berdych and even Ferrer should be looking for deep runs

I'd be happy if Berdych claimed this one (however hallucinatory it is to put Berdych, champion, and clay in the same sentence, he really does play well and deserves it).

Hard to pinpoint anyone as a big favorite.

One can always expect Wawrinka to go bonkers as well.

Kyrgios to win Estoril and then record his first masters beating Djokovic 6-0 6-1.

You heard it here first. 8)

Ferrer in so-so shape, Murray clueless on clay, Raonic just back from injury, Fed too old for the surface, Wawrinka and Dimitrov subpar... I'm picking Rafa to right the ship, Berd to go deep again and Nishi to ride the Barcelona momentum.

Not the same without Djokovic, but going with Nadal to win here.

Interestingly Madrid masters, which was always weakest for Nadal, with MC and Rome being the strongest in years gone by, is the one where Nadal seems to be flourishing at this point in his career. He's already got the title in 2010, 2013,2014...never failed to make a final everytime it has been on red clay.

Federer or Nishikori.

Nadal will REALLY need to wake up, stop questioning himself and get down on it because if he struggles he's going to lose a hatfull of points.

I just have a feeling that Berdych will win this. He played solid against Novak at MC.

His shots had more penetration. He definitely has improved this year. I hope he doesn't decide to be the usual pigeon that has always been.

Steady on. He's made 2 RG semis, 2 MC semis and a semi in Rome and taken sets off both Nadal and Djokovic before they stopped him. Not an achiever on the surface no, but not exactly clueless either.

Berdman to win his first Masters in 10 years

Without Djokovic standing in his way, I'd say he's got a very good chance just so long as he keeps up his level. Federer is probably going to be his greatest threat.

It was a shortcut, no offense. I meant he's never won a clay title since 2008, I am not sure why he would start now... with a master to boot. Maybe he can try Munich first ;)

The tournament website is not user friendly at all. I can't find the women's qualifying draw, there is no information about the draw ceremony, nothing.

He's never won a clay title full stop but he's still gone deep at RG and the Masters so I thought it was a stretch to call him 'clueless, that's all!

Maybe he can try Munich first ;)

That's exactly what he is doing! :)

I think Nadal's 2015 comeback starts here , especially since Djoko is absent he can play without any pressure.
Vamos.

Gonna go with Nishikori on this one. But voted for Ferrer so as not to jinx Kei. Weird how my mind works :mrgreen::mrgreen:

I hope Federer wins this. It has been a long time since he won a masters on red clay (IIRC, his last was Madrid 2009 beating Nadal).
