Clint's expression are always classic ;)

Novak wins 6/3 7/5. Very entertaining match. Quality of play was another story. Played pretty good in the first set though. Simon another story...

Finally, he should have served those high kick serves earlier. Simon looked like a dwarf in that last service game. That guy is tough, crazy. So many rallyes where he somehow reached the ball and it started again.

I don't know what's more depressing - seeing two serve bots play or two return bots. I'm glad it's over and not looking forward to having Simon in Nole's draw the next couple of tournaments.

Annabel Croft talking a lot of crap as usual "Very impressive peformance from Novak, very calm and efficient" What match was she watching?

Anyway here's the full stats, horrible play but I suppose best to get rid of this stuff early on

So many breaks. Federer USO 2015 could learn a few things ;)

I think he needs that kind of matches although it reminds of Montreal, which he didn't win in the end. Anyways, the next point is always the most important, so new day, new opponent, new opportunities. I'm still confident that he can switch up some gears. It wasn't impressive, but Simon wasn't so bad. If you play long rallyes like these where you virtually cannot hit a winner from the baseline, you have to commit errors at some point.

Ruthless Djokovic destroys talented in-form Frenchman Simon in straight sets and books his place in the Paris QFs!

Cowan never thinks before he speaks.. remember he wrote that article saying "Murray was great in the Davis Cup (this was after GB beat USA) but he will never be world number 1"

He knew Murray would come at him, yet he published the article anyway. Murray tweeted the link to it and shock, Barry deleted the article off the Sky Sports website

Don't get me wrong, I do expect him to with this Masters even though the way he performed today but the serve was quiet bad this match though. Novak doesn't relish that many break points either in a GS match, let alone in 2 sets. So hope to see some improvements obviously where he makes the matches a bit easier.

He's been having too much sweet time with Jelena lately ;)

Talk about winning ugly. Oh well, no sixth Masters title of the season for you Novak.

He can't win every match by delivering bagels and breadsticks. Bottom line, he still won the match in straights. What this shows is, even when he is not playing lights out, he is still finding a way to win.

Novak isn't just a physical wall, he is a mental wall also. The world's heavyweight champion is expected sometimes to win matches with the old blood and guts routine, and he did just that...as long as he is still breathing in this tournament, he ain't finished. Not yet.

Saw the last few games. heard that both were unable to hold serve for several games in the second set.

How was Djokovic's game then ? Scrappy ?

I agree his serve got lost somewhere in the second set. But it is still funny as if he can break on command - Simon breaks, Nole breaks too. Nole holds, he is obviously happy to be one break ahead and Simon holds too. :)

Djokovic a bit rusty in the first round, even more today, but at least his return game is clicking. Simon is a tricky opponent, unpredictable at times, he wasn't exactly on fire, but still had a good match. The court is slower than I thought, thus Novak needs that (second) serve immediately.

Well yes, but Simon was hell bent that he was not going to let Novak win, atleast in terms of crappy play today. ;)

very uncharacteristic match from Nole today. Return game is on point, but as you guys saw, he got too cute with his service game. There were more than a few points that he just opted to get too cute with instead of taking the easy smash or winner. Not the first time we've seen that from him, and I'm sure not the last.

It almost seems as if he gets bored in these matches and does things to perplex one's mind.

Oh well, we've seen this before from Nole...other players look great while Nole looks average. Until said player plays Nole, and then he elevates his game.

Going to be an interesting quarterfinals...

Good match. Perfect. We do not want djokovic in good form until some worthless trinket tournament in January. Can not remember the name of that tournament :D
