2015, Roger Federer (34) is finally slipping away-Your Scenario?

OK, Feder is THE player now. Maybe too good, too dominating. For fun, let's imagine 10 years from now, 2015.

He is still playing but just like Pete Sampras in 2002-2003 or Agassi in 2005, seriously considering retirement. He would win 15-16+ majors and will be living with his family-3 kids and Mirka and some cows.

Mine : For 5 or more years, there will be no real threat. He will even win a couple of RG on red clay court to be the 6th players who accomplished the career GS. But gradually, young kids who'd grow up watching his beautiful, versatile, complete tennis begin to threaten his long reign. So, another young Roger Federers (they just began playing tennis. Age 6-8 in 2005. Cool attitude, 1HBH, all court game will become very popular) with even more power and ability will succeed him. WTA side, still Baseliner style will be the style unfortunately.

What's your version of story?

within 3 years I think Gasquet could challenge Federer for #1. I think this would be really great if we saw a real tough rival for Fed emerge and I think Gasquet has the talent to do that. I see Fed winning maybe 1 French, but Nadal and Gasquet will prevent him from winning more.

Don't be silly the media won't let anyone but Roddick be his rival  I don't think they realize the meaning of the word rivalry!

lol sinatra :) Does rivalry include access to millions of dollars of US endorsement dollars? Roddick and Hewitt as rivals are jokes. Fed owns them, and has liquidated their assets to be able to present them as plastic at most sporting events.
Gasquet is a 'basquet'-case for now, and i'll be pleased when i'm proven wrong as he asserts himself as an even better all-courter who anticipates better than Fed.

Of course, AA could, with the help of artificial sciatic nerves developed in 2009, destroy a lackadaisical (sp?) Fed in a 6-hour FO final in 2012. Jaden and Jaz would be so proud.

I see shades of Paradorn in Gasquet. Wonderful shot maker but just a bit too keen to pull the trigger. The difference will be in their coaches. Don't know who is looking after Gasquet but I don't believe it's his Dad and he will be allowed to develop more as a result. His Wimbledon match against Nalbandian was interesting ... didn't seem prepared to hang on court to grind it out. Shots started missing and the 4th set vanished quickly (may even have just been three). Contrast that to his MC win over Fed where he hit winner after winner. Perhaps a bit harsh and certainly there is much to admire in his game and I'd be delighted if he proved me wrong. He's fun to watch usually.

Not sure where to post this, but this is what Nadal had to say this week re Roger:

"I've won 9 titles this year but I still want to win more victories and to be World No. 1, however I will not be too focused in this aspect when I face [Roger] again. I'm only 19 years old, there's more to improve and right now my main objective is to perform well in every match."

Thanks for the perspective, Vamos...it's very easy to judge a plaer on their results rather than their age. Players like Becker, Edberg and agassi who found ridiculous success at a very early age are anomalies, much like Rafa. His enthusiasm and on-court persona are second-to-none, though i sincerely hope that he's more than a flash in the pan. Right now, I think he would get spanked by a number of pros on hardcourts; his win over AA notwithstanding he's going to find his retrieving game is short shrift against most players.

At 34, Fed is going to weigh about 40 lbs more than he does right now, because that's the only way older players can still compete- AA is the classic example of what it takes. He will end up like a top-heavy, craggy-faced surgeon, still capable of dismantling opponents though with less precision on the strokes than '05. Fed's game is so efficient that he will surpass AA's mark as the best 35+ competitor, and will win his 9th Wimbledon as a result.

Ahh, the joy of oracular vision!

Roger Federer is 34....

He somehow makes a string of great victories to make maybe his last US Open ever.
His opponent?
A young and powerful Agassi, thats right, the birth child of Andre and Steffi is now one of the most genetically gifted tennis player ever. He's just like his dad, but uses a one handed backhand.
Federer loses in a one of the most celebrated 5 setter in history of tennis.

LOL

Roger Federer is 34 - to the surprise of the tennis world, it has been 8 years since he's picked up a racquet. He tries not to vomit as he feels the rush that the black tar heroine gives him - a feeling he has been all too familiar with for almost a decade now. "What a waste of talent" the world thought as he quit tennis after amassing an impressive 10 grand slams, including the elusive Roland Garros that Pete Sampras could never grasp. Federer slouches down in the dark alleyway in Paris as he wonders what his life has become. He takes in the foul stench of trash and smelly vagrants as he falls to the ground. He slips out of this world as possibly the most talented player ever to hold a racquet.

maybe he will be very boring and lost desire about tennis. in one year in the future he'll get the golden slam and say "this room too small, i'll try the golf" so he is going to retire before reach 30.

My predictions:

1) When he retires, he will have atleast 18 Slam wins.
2) He will have a grand slam under his belt.
3) In the next three years, there will be someone who will play him well consistently and his dominance will subside a bit.
4) He will not be able to maintain his record of 2004 and 2005 in total victories but still will be number 1 with an amazing number of titles/year
5) Of course, injury and health are the major X-factors.

Too painful to watch sometimes.

It would be hard for him to fulfill your #1 & #2 predictions if #'s 3 & 4 happen.

Good point....Well, my thinking was, if not for 3 and 4, he will have more slam wins....But then who the heck knows....*grin*

AGASSI is BACK!!!!!

In 2015, Federer is still unstoppable. He built a special clay court in his backyard to train to hunt for RG title, and he made it. He wins 10 consecutive Wimbledon titles. Wilson releases 'Wilson Roger Federer the Man 1.0' racquet which becomes a bestseller. He's been on FedEx commercials for last 10 years, DHL, UPS went bankrupsy. It is the world of Roger Federer.

All of sudden, 2015 valedictorian of the Nick Bollitieri Tennis Academy, Mr. Jaden Agassi come to New York to play against Federer in USO final. and he says..

"Ok, punk, u beat my daddy 10 years ago and it's time to revenge"

FedEx couldn't stop him. Jaden got Andre's Forehand, backhand, strategy, and Steffi's speed, mental, focus. It was 3-1, Agassi wins!

Federer, the finalist of the 2015 USO, retires with tears dropping.
Nadal already retired a long time ago. Safin is a head coach for the 5 time Davis Cup defending champion, Chineses tennis team.

oh...... and Christian Sampras wins the 2016 AO. New rivalry between Sampras and Agassi again!

Take out the references to Gasquet and that's an excellent prediction!

This just shows how much of a disappointment Gasquet turned out to be.
