Who's your next favourite player after Serena Vanhool? :)
Hmmmmm...I used to like Bartoli. I like the weirdos and/or aggressiveness. I'm a sucker for the drama of Cornet :D Even though she's a defender, she really throws the kitchen sink at them and never gives up. I wish she was more consistent, though. I will always watch at least part of her match. All the others that I like, I will watch them based on matchups. Serena is the only one I will watch almost every match all the way through (and rewatch the finals :)).

Ana is aggressive and is like a model-pretty version of Bartoli (in terms of quirkiness), so I find her amusing, but she's a little too inconsistent for me to be a real fan.

I like "Peak Kvitova" (not Kvitty Spray). Venus, of course. Both are a bit frustrating. I have been holding out hope for Muguruza since 2013, I hope she fulfills her potential.

I also like Vika, she has attitude :) Used to like Lisicki, but she needs to quit acting like a little girl. I also can't bear the heartache of the other WWWH crew that I used to like (like Stosur and Kuzzy), and though I have no malice toward them, I just can't take it. I'm glad Safarova is getting it together.

There are a lot more of them I like :) Who are yours?

Surprised to see no mention of Sharapova! J/K :) I like Ivanovic and Lisicki but tbh there aren't that many female players I find overly endearing these days. It would be nice to see someone like Safarova win a major as I like her game and she seems very sweet but what are the chances of it happening? Looks like she and most of the other players will have to wait until Serena finally hangs up her raquet before they can start chowing down. ;)

I feel really ambivalent about Sharapova for a lot of reasons, but none of them have to do with Serena. There are things about her that I do like, and I respect her, but ultimately the screaming is just too much for me and I only watch when I really like her opponent, or if I notice she is about to be upset (for the drama, not because I hate her).

I am going out on a limb and picking Halep. She had a crap last couple of months and i think
its time for her to get it in gear !!! After her i go with Lucie Safarova or Ana Ivanovic

I will be attending on Thursday. I'm hoping to see Garbine and Halep. Of course I would love to see Serena, just because you have to see a tour du force at least once in your life. Venus would also be cool to watch. I'll just have to see who is in it on Thursday afternoon!

(And next year....back to see the guys again.)

I'm thinking along the same lines as you. Serena is the obvious pick for the title but I'm just not feeling it. I'm not feeling Kvitova either so it'll either be a re-focused, re-energized Halep or someone new or unexpected, like Radwanska winning last year.

What about Timea Bacsinszky She had a good run this year.

Potential Azarenka - Kvitova second round match. Bring it on!
Poor Vika. The sooner she gets her ranking up, the better for everyone. But the draw gods are not making it easy on her (or the other players in the process). Currently ranked 19 :(

Personally, I don't think Vika has been very smart with her schedule. She skips all the small tournaments (which she can win and boost her ranking), and plays only the big ones. She seems to be misguided and thinks she's still a top player.

She pulled out of Citi with injury and two days later she's in Toronto practicing. Even the top guys play small tournaments when their rankings drop. No shame in doing that.

She will keep drawing the top ladies until her ranking improves or she starts beating them (whichever comes first).

Good point.

And I'm not sure if Kvitova is still a top player during the American hard court swing. It's like she becomes someone else, so maybe it will be fine for Vika. Lol Kvitty might not make it to the second round anyway!

Edit: haha I just saw Kvitova plays Bye in the first round. I'll let my comments stand anyway :D

Honestly, I won't be shocked if bye defeats Kvitova! She's a poster child for unpredictability! Azarenka is capable of winning that match if it happens. She plays Svitolina first.

I agree with this. Tennis is tough that way. It doesn't take very long until you have to put your nose to the grindstone again and play a bunch of small tournaments if your ranking falls. Bouchard is someone who just doesn't seem to get this.

Watching Pennetta vs Dabrowski at the moment. Not a high quality match to say the least. You can tell Dabrowski, a doubles specialist, is out of her element in singles here but Pennetta is playing awful so we stand at 4-all in the 1st.

EDIT: Pennetta breaks and will serve for the set, up 5-4. If she finally finds her rhythm it should be a quick 2nd set for the Italian.

What the hek is up with navarro lately ? been on a bad run of form losing her last 4 matches and down a set and break against cornet, she was very consistent earlier in the year

I was just going to post about this. She's definitely in a rough patch.

Meanwhile, as expected, it was a quick 2nd set between Dabrowski and Pennetta. The Italian vet won 6 straight games to take the it 6-1. She'll face Serena in the 2nd round.

One of the many Twitpics out there today.

And the power went out in the players' hotel.

Checked their twitter page
RAIN UPDATE: It has started raining again and the courts are no longer being dried. Centre Court not before 8:45, Grandstand not before 9pm.

Ugh, so typical of Canada, this rain. Funny enough it's usually the worst in the west, especially BC, but this summer they are in NEED of more rain. They've barely been getting any and there have been a ton of forest fires as a result.

Anyway, hopefully they get in a few matches tonight.
