As long as it riles her up enough for the third, I'm alright with her being pissed![]()
Absolutely! She probably needs to be pissed.

Oh for **** sake halep why bother winning the 2nd if your gunna play bad in the 3rd
Why is she crying? Usually when players overreact like that, they end up losing the final. See Muguruza who kept falling down after each match at Wimby.
Oh well, congrats to BB! 4 Slam finalists & 2 champs this week, nothing to apologize for.
Halep is the Nishikori of the WTA. Fragile, always something going on.
I don't understand why this girl has so many physical problems. She gets exhausted way too easily compared to other top players. Perhaps she should try a gluten free diet.![]()
Guess she knew she wouldn't get to really celebrate in the final![]()
Maybe Bouchard losing to Bencic in 3 sets in the 1st round is a positive sign for her in hindsight?
Was just going to say...
I even thought that at the time, seeing as how Bencic was ranked higher than her (20 to Bouchard's 25). By no means is it a really big deal for Bouchard, but it was a decent little stepping stone for her.
I would think this would light a fire under Bouchard for a couple of different reasons -- Bencic is younger and more accomplished in terms of titles; she played a close match against her; and Bencic just won Genie's home tournament.
That's got to hurt quite a bit knowing how competitive these pro athletes are.
Maybe some motivation for Genie to get her **** together.
It was so cute during the trophy ceremony. They announced "and now you'll have the chance to play for a million dollars," and her eyes got big and she said "What???!!!!" The possibility hadn't even been on her radar.Hopefully Bencic can do well enough in Cincinnati to win the U.S Open series.

Not at all. At least Kei fought it out yesterday and didn't retire.
What are you talking about? Kei tanked that second set. Stevie Wonder could see that.
Still better than not finishing, especialy when even if possibly hurt/struggling with heat you were well enough to fight like a dog to win the 2nd set, and had no new injury/problem since then other than a can of ass whoop being opened on you early in the 3rd.
True. Not finishing when you are so close to the end is worse. Not impressive from her at all. This is one of the many reasons I have trouble warming up to her.
Absolutely. Every week it seems like there is something else wrong with her. Didn't she just have a month off?
What a disgusting display from her to retire at 0-3 in the third set! Not professional at all.
I don't blame her for retiring. It was pretty obvious in the 2nd set tiebreaker that she was not going to be able play a 3rd set.
I thought this was way better than Sloane's run. Sloane beat a bunch of nobodies along the way to meet Serena, who was hobbled and still took the first set no problem. Serena almost took the second set, too. Even when Serena's back started spasming and she was serving 80 mph first serves, Sloane appeared sullen and unwilling to accept the gift. Finally she pulled it together and won in spite of herself.it's very impressive that an 18 year old had such a run
when's the last time we've seen a teen play so well? I guess maybe Sloane at 19 at the Australian open, but of course she only won her first tournament this year.
I don't know. I guess because she's a competitor. I guess she felt she could win the 2nd set, so she was going to give it her all and I'm sure she tried to win in the 3rd too but it was just obvious as an observer that she had absolutely nothing left. Why fight so hard to win the 2nd set then? If you already know you aren't going to finish the 3rd no matter what. I don't know, I just find it all kind of confusing.
Well, you don't know until you try. Perhaps the break between sets was actually bad for her. Sometimes you can just power through, you go into some primal survival mode, but when you stop and reset you feel it and can't get it restarted. Why fight so hard to win the 2nd set then? Her general behavior during matches is irritating, especialy when things aren't going her way as today showed.

In contrast, Bencic was focussed and there to win, great court coverage and court sense, ready to take advantage of a less than stellar Williams. It probably helps to be coached by the Hingis camp, who I would imagine have been crafting a Serena strategy for years. Interestingly, the Stephens and Bencic scorelines were identical 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, but the they were very different matches in my eyes. Good job Belinda!

Yes, that's true. I just try not to judge them (athletes and their MTOs, retirements, potty breaks, etc) because I really don't know what's going on. Maybe, in this case, she thought she was going to faint or puke or something embarrassing and thought the retirement would be less drama queen and keep the focus more on Bencic than herself. But it seems like it is always something with her.
