Mahut proving aggressive fast court style can work on any surface...75 approaches to net in three sets; Mon Dieu!
Just retire now Simon
Gotta love fixed tennis. Mahut the challenger baby!
How good does Mahut have to be to even compete with these players who all play the same because the courts and racquets favor their homogenous style? He plays the most difficult game in the most difficult of conditions and still forces soporific baseliner Simon to play at least four sets on clay. That's talent.

I will start to look ahead to those guys after the fourth round. The big concern for me right now is Monfils.
Game over for Mahut.
Can't rely on TBs anymore.
Simon will probably take this in 5 but why, why does he put himself in this situation?
Early break for Gilles. Nice.
They can have a 4th set TB...
Will he hold? Doubtful.
Because even though he has all the favorable "weapons" to triumph in this single style borefest that tennis has turned into, he's still not talented enough to beat a player whose game is the opposite of what is taught today.
why not? we're not in the fifth yetGame over for Mahut.

Too much free time. Lol. On Tuesday, he was rooting for Monfils and saying Federer has no chance. He wants Monfils to beat Federer.
So, why does he care whether Federer is playing bad?
This would hold true if he hadn't already beaten plenty of players who are at least as talented as Mahut.
Mahut is forcing Simon to play 5 sets playing like McEnroe. None of these other players you claim to be as least as talented as Mahut play a game which is like swimming against the tide. Mahut has to be supremely talented to be able to do this. Even when racquet technology didn't favor baseliners as much as it does today, it was extremely difficult for a serve and volleyer to win a clay tournament (Noah managed to do it but it certainly wasn't the norm, Becker couldn't win a single clay tournament, McEnroe and Edberg were close to winning RG but couldn't; Sampras only managed to win one Super 9 on clay). That just gives you the measure of how much more difficult it would be for a serve and volleyer to even reach a semifinal nowadays.
I thought Mahut would be incapable of breaking.
I was mistaken.

Ha, this is Simon we are talking about... he has that French resolve...
Inductive reasoning. The fact that other players chose a different game plan does not make them less talented than Mahut.
Stan's forehand is sick
This match could have just been over in three sets. Mahut was pretty clutch on those set points Simon had.
Reminds me of something I chanced upon on Facebook. It was something like a Hitler poster with the following wording beneath:
"I am not saying you're a w*ore
But you're easier than Poland"
Made me cackle.![]()
Stan is sick. Match secured with the double break.Stan's forehand is sick
Wawrinka is murdering Johnson. Serving at 4-1 in the 3rd.

It would be epic if he went all the way!

he sure does. he's playing massive tennis at the moment. Trying to imitate the Federer-match's scorelineHe has scary ground strokes indeed.
he can now?Thought Simon could hold like in the 1st set to win the 4th
