This is a really interesting QF matchup! Will the in-form and ever dangerous Tsonga be able to stop Cilic in his title defense? Cilic has done well to stay alive so far but I really think he's vulnerable to a player who can actually get the job done, unlike a Kukushkin or a Chardy.

I think Tsonga as well. I see that he still hasn't been broken yet, that's a good sign for sure. Would love for Tsonga to do something here.

I think the last set against Chardy was Cilic really stepping up in his bid to defend here. Im actually gonna go against the run of posts so far and say Cilic in 4.

I picked Cilic to reach the semis again, so I stand by my prediction. Cilic in 4, to hopefully set up a Djokovic semi. He's starting to show glimpses of last year's form, but of course Tsonga is also very dangerous.

Pretty hard to call. Tsonga was more impressive but Cilic seems to have played himself into decent form and is looking pretty composed mentally in pressure situations. He's also a tough match-up fort Tsonga because he has so much firepower off both sides and has better ROS, not sure how will Jo fare from the baseline against him here.

Tsonga is a great fella capable of breathtaking tennis but I think Cilic will put it all together and get the job done in 3 close sets. His serve is something else, right now.

Could be the show stealer of the quarter finals in the mens.

Honestly, it's close to a toss 'em. There might be a bit of a matchup factor working towards Cilic, but I'm picking Tsonga to prevail. Hopefully in 4 so he's fresh for Djoko

Cilic in 4. I like his chances this year. Playing well, underdog status as the defending champ, less pressure on him

Bump. Match is coming up, and a new thread was made, so I bumped the original.

Also. Go Stronga. Allez!

Cilic in 4. He is a bad match up for Tsonga as their head to head history indicates. His consistency combined with his power from the baseline will be too potent a combination for Tsonga who as usual will run hot and cold and struggle to contain his errors which he cant let mount vs Cilic who will also hit a lot of winners, and make fewer errrors.

Tsonga has been playing incredible tennis. But Cilic uses to bother him a lot. Hopefully Tsonga delivers, I want a Djokovic-Tsonga semi finals.

Tsonga at night. Cilic wins afternoon matchup.
Cilic in three. Tsonga will be trying to reach his first US Open semi-final against last year’s champion Marin Cilic. Tsonga won last year's Roger's Cup in Montreal on very similar courts, but has done extremely poorly at Cincinnati in his career. The dominant factor for this match with its mid-afternoon start will be a high temperature of 94 (faster ball flight). Head to head favors Cilic.

You may want to remove poll end time then put back with one hour limit. Shutdown time of 2:51 too early!

My two favorites players left. I'm indifferent on which one I want to win, as long as he can take out sixtyballrallyovic
Then you should probably back Tsonga. Both would probably lose to Novak, but Tsonga is the better upset bid IMO. Djokovic haunts Cilic's nightmares. Terrible match up.

Really hoping for Tsonga. It's awesome he came back from injury and just strolled into the FO Semis and now has a shot at a great USO run.

Idk about that. Tsonga has a bad habit of laying
down against joker. Cilic's the champion and is feeling the pressure to defend his points.

I remember an interview he did last year with Charlie Rose after winning the US Open. He talked about wanting to beat Djokovic, since he hasn't beaten him since they were young. It's a terrible match up for him. You kinda have to feel for the guy.

Tsonga has done ok against Novak compared to Cilic though. Cilic has just been terrible against Novak. There is very little rationale for saying Cilic is a better bet to take out Novak than Tsonga is. Except maybe that he could blitz his way to the title again, but in all honesty I'm not seeing that this year, and I also believe Cilic was a little lucky not to play Novak last year. If Djokovic had made that final he would've beaten Cilic IMO (and Federer too). I know that's Djokovic's problem, but the fact remains that when they play, Djokovic has won 100% of the time so far. That's not been the case when Djokovic plays Tsonga even though neither are favourites against him obviously.

And in case you're wondering, I don't have the same feelings about Wawrinka since he actually beat Djokovic in Australia and has since beaten Djokovic at RG to win his 2 major titles. Wawrinka is higher on my pecking order for this reason.
