Tsonga is effectively being neutralized by Cilic. I'm sort of surprised. I figured it would be the other way around and Tsonga would be a handful for Cilic but the Croatian is just too good.
Their head to head indicates this doesn't usually happen (Tsonga neutralizing Cilic's game).

Tsonga is a just a tragedy. I mean, what happened to him? If someone told you after the 2008 AO Final that they have looked into the future and this was Tsonga's future, you'd roll your eyes at them.

And at least Rafter won Masters titles. If Cilic wins it again, he'd have two majors but no other titles above a 250!!!:eek:
Wow I didn't know he didn't even have a 500. I totally knew he didn't have a Masters, but not even a 500 is a bit shocking. Maybe he doesn't play a lot of them.

Rafter does have a couple Masters, and a couple Wimbledon finals, and semis of all 4 slams, but still only 11 career titles overall.

Yeah, I guess I should pay more attention to history.

Also, thinking about it more, it's easy to be a bit fooled by Tsonga's form. In reality, his draw has been pretty easy to this point. He hasn't had to face a top 40 player yet (Nieminen, Granollers, Stakhovsky, Paire).

I still think Tsonga could make this interesting though. He needs to get a break or something to regain some momentum (actually he needs a break just to stay in the set).

I think Tsonga came out playing well. He was unlucky to not get an early lead. He long that long service game to lose serve and got down despite probably being the better player to that point, and since then his attitude and game have sunk. Cilic began playing better midway through the 1st set too.

what? their H2H is the exact opposite to what you said here
I said their head to head indicates Tsonga does not usually neutralize Cilic's game effectively (which is indicated by the head to head).

OK we get it , its GLADYS KNIGHT ... Thank you thank you ... now can we please watch the tennis ?
My god American TV is so annoying...

Even if he doesn't defend his title this year,I wouldn't be surprised at all if Cilic would win another slam.Either another one here or at Wimbledon.
I could see him winning a Wimbledon too. He just has to clear the Djokovic hurdle. I can imagine him beating anyone else on grass, including Federer (especialy as Roger will be 35 by next year).

He definitely cant ever win a slow court slam IMO.

Good to see both these guys recover from injury and come this far. It was difficult to predict who will win. But it seems Cilic has upper hand over him

What's going on? Why is Cilic 2 sets up?
Cilic playing really solid. Tsonga lethargic and erratic since he lost serve last in the 1st set. Cilic is 4-1 vs Tsonga remember, and most of those were before Cilic was a contender while Tsonga always was, and usually higher ranked than he is today.

A clinical first 2 sets by Cilic. He means business. Kind of disappointing but at the same time I'm thoroughly enjoying watching him play like this.

Something's wrong with Jo though.

How incredible would it be if Cilic defended his title? Obviously as a Djokovic fan I'd be gutted if he didn't win but at least it would put an end to all the "fluke" talk, plus Marin seems like a genuinely nice guy so he'd definitely deserve it, especially after struggling so much with injuries since winning it last year.
His obstacle is Novak, if he gets past him he's winning the title IMO, don't see anyone from the other side stopping him.

Boring loser effort by Tsonga.............I am going to Watch the Mixed double with Sam Querry instead.........even mixed is better than this match.....

I would also favour Murray against him on grass, but other than that yeah,I agree.

Agreed about the slow court slam also.

Can they stop talking about Serena?

This match is being played in slow motion, neither of these 2 going for their shots. Muzza would have beaten both of these guys :)

Nishi troubled him with his offensive baseline play a month ago. So it will be tough for Cilic against Novak. But Cilic is serious now.
It will not be a surprise if he beats Novak.

Cilic is not beating Djokovic in the semi. Djoko has his number! Last year cilic escaped the djoker, not this time :D
While it's true Nole is 10 times the player Cilic is, when Cilic zones (like last year's USO), nobody would have beaten him. He was serving like Sampras last year. Just as Novak couldn't stop a zoning Stanimal this year at the FO, he almost surely wouldn't have beaten Cilic. Kei beat him last year in four sets. Cilic would have done it even more easily.

What's wrong with Tsongowski today? I started watching 3 minutes ago and he has shanked the ball twice already.

You don't think Fed would be able to beat him zagor?
If he plays this well, no. Can't exploit his movement (he moves like he's 6ft2), no weaker side to attack, not enough firepower off the FH side to hit through him (Fed needs a very fast court these days for his FH to shine), not good enough defense/movement anymore to take the brunt of his attacks in BO5 and frustrate him into making errors. Marin also returns well and would be aggressive on Fed's 2nd serve, putting him under additional pressure.

I honestly don't think Fed would have a better chance against Cilic than Novak, would maybe even give him more chance against the latter actually.

Mmm, I'm not sure about that mate. I'd imagine Fed's hunger for slam number 18 would be enough to overcome Cilic no matter how well he's playing. Mind you, he was in pretty much the same situation last year and we saw what happened there!
