Serena is serving lights out today. She otherwise is not playing the level of tennis I would think necessary to beat a very decent Halep.

This should be an interesting finish to the second.
Yep halep is more than hanging with her off the ground. The serve is key.

Serena needs to chill with the cursing on court. She can yell and scream and shout come ons as much as she wants but I will not support the cursing.

Oh trust me, there are many trolls here, but there are a select few who I would describe as true parasites. AngieB and 90's Clay are 2 of them.
Well, I see these two as very different tyoes of posters. One I can have a laugh with, one just likes to complain.

There's nothing naive about it. I've been around here longer than most of you. I'm simply not being too dramatic about everyone. There are lots of trolls, but only a few people here are really bad for the forum.

But whatever.

Hey, I wasn't being paternalistic. Just having a bit of a laugh. And I totally meant what I said: it's refreshing to hear (read) something like that, cynicism is sometimes the rule here and I'm certainly one of its spokespeople sometimes.

Ah, gotcha. See! I'm jaded! I can't even read a harmless post right!

Even if Halep somehow managed to force a decider, Serena's serve would probably come to her rescue. This stuff is just unplayable. Very commendable effort by Halep, but the WTA will have to continue playing the waiting game.

Classy exchange at the net was classy. Props for Simona for being a good sport.

Why, that good?

seriously, how does she walk off the court after that, and have a nice smile and little emotion?...has Serena so thoroughly destroyed any confidence of these players they're not truly emotionally invested?...I think so...also, simply not talented enough, good enough athletically, big enough, strong enough, quick enough, healthy enough...are younger ones like this simply envisioning a day five years from now when Serena is gone and they can win big events?....again, it's Serena & the WTA...like Motown, but only one group has the hits...very strange game right now...very weak behind her

p.s. that wasn't Halep f-bombing the camera when she almost had to play a third set, but that was Halep losing in straights, just saying...and Serena fans, one reason the huge endorsements have been difficult

I am actually more curious to see if serena can beat grafs weeks at number 1 record more than the grand slam this year. That would.be something else

No she is just very strong. If serena was not playing this would be the most competitive era in wta history.

Thats the main problem today. THese kids are just happy to be on TV and get easy money. They have to little to no desire to be the best and it shows in their demeanor, results, lack of big titles, etc.

Why should a bunch of 30 something year olds that have accomplished everything be hungrier than the young kids to win?
Thats downright a JOKE of mega proportions. Its the reason why the men and women's side is in such a state of array right now and why you got a bunch of 20 somethings who should have taken over the reigns a LONG time ago still slam-less, title-less etc.

She'll most likely annihilate most of these records. It's very plain sailing so far, with no major obstacles on the horizon.

To be honest, that's impossible to determine. You could postulate the same thing about any other era (like the Evert-Navratilova or Graf eras): remove the top player(s) that win everything and it would be the most competitive field in history. It doesn't tell you anything.

it would be nice to wipe the Graf records clean in the sense of the Seles debate, and if she wipes Court clean that would be good too, for many reasons...

it would be funny one day to see all of Serena's records be wiped out when she's 70...Serena runs out of the stands and breaks the girls rackets, f-bombs her, and threatens to kill the girl's husband by shoving a frozen burrito down his throat

I just hate it when they don't show the trophy ceremony! ESPN cut away to show the world series of poker. Which, sadly, is probably more popular than tennis SMDH.

It sure as hell doesnt tell you its a weak era. All it says is that when a player is dominate he or she is dominate. No player ever served like serena. Why people cant.get this through their heads is beyond me.

Well, yes. It doesn't tell if it's competitive or weak. It doesn't tell anything. It's a poorly formulated question/problem because it can't be determined.

Even worse, this is a replay of poker from yesterday. Spoiler: the girl in the sunglasses wins.
LOL!!! I just read your post to my wife and she said "Oh good! That's the only reason I was still watching." Thank god we can get a TV break before UFC comes on :p

Edit: now we have to leave it on so we can watch her win lol.

If you find me a player who in the wta served 120 on the lines on a consistent basis and was good off the ground as well at any age get back to me.
