3rd Grand Slam of the year.
Can Serena win her 3rd slam of the year and win another NCYGS?
Or will Kvitova stop her and win her 3rd Wimbledon?
Put a poll up based on current rankings, i'm sure the seeding will be different due to Wimbledon's rules.

Early wildcards have been awarded to Naomi Broady, Johanna Konta, Anett Kontaveit and Jelena Ostapenko. I'll keep this updated.

Peng Shuai so far the biggest withdrawal from the event.

There isn't a lot to discuss.

Serena is nowhere near her best yet better than all the rest.

I have better chances to win the lottery and have endless encounters of orgies than seeing Bouchard lift the title. Let alone winning her first round match lol.

Hey, I said I'm cheering for her. Never said she'll take the title. I doubt she'll come close to defending her final points from last year.

I don't just jump on the bandwagon of the best players that win everything. I cheer for some players regardless of how well they're doing.

hopefully Serena. Just want to see Navratilova go mincing up to her to present the trophy, smiling and seething at the same time.

Who will knock Serena out? Kvitova will be number 2 seed so they won't face each other til the final if they both make it.
Lisicki,Mladonovic(spelling?),Cornet,Kerber. Someone will knock her out,I'm sure of it. Otherwise,it's not even worth watching the wta portion of the tournament

#Wimbledon tradition won't allow for that. #MartinaN has been at the following, recent #Serenas trophy presentation:

#2014USOpen
#2015AustralianOpen
#2015Miami
#2015FrenchOpen

The #2014YEC #BillieJeanKing and #ChrisEvert attended, the trophy was named after #BJK

I believe that #MartinaN feels she's the #"GOAT" who should be there passing the torch from her to #Serena. I really do.

I know this is really going out on a limb but one of Serena, Kvitova or Sharapova will win.

Looking back at Slam results since the 2008 US Open, here are the players who have won titles outside of those 3:

Na Li (2011 French Open, 2014 Australian Open)
Marion Bartoli (2013 Wimbledon)
Victoria Azarenka (2012 Australian Open, 2013 Australian Open)
Samantha Stosur (2011 US Open)
Kim Clijsters (2009 US Open, 2010 US Open, 2011 Australian Open)
Francesca Schiavone (2010 French Open)
Svetlana Kuznetsova (2009 French Open)

Now, 4 of those 7 players are retired (Li, Bartoli, Clijsters, Schiavone). Is Schiavone retired? If not, she's not really on the scene anymore anyway.

That leaves Azarenka, Stosur, and Kuznetsova as the only ACTIVE players to win Slam titles outside the 3 of Williams, Sharapova and Kvitova since the 2008 US Open.

Additionally, those 3 have combined to win 10 of the last 13 Slams (Li, Bartoli and Azarenka are the other 3).

Sorry if this seems random, I just wanted to get that out. I never actually thought about just how consistent the top players in the women's game have been. I'm used to the narrative that the WTA is a bit of a cluster...

Hahahahaha. Poor Schiavone, no love. She's ranked like in the 80's but yeah her winning would be one in a million. Stosur doesn't have a good record at Wimbledon. And Azarenka is still heavily injured.

I like your logic but we've had quite a few first time finalists in recent slams.
Safarova- French 15
Bouchard- Wimbledon 14 (lol)
Halep- French 14
Cibulkova- Aus 14 (injured)
Lisicki- Wimbledon 13
Radwanska- Wimbledon 12

Safarova could be a threat and Halep. Lisicki who knows with her. But I would bet my money on Serena or Kvitova.

How is Vika typically on grass?

Not awesome. Of her 33 career finals only 1 has been on grass (Eastbourne 2010 Runner up).
But she's reached Wimbledon semi's twice (2011, 2012) and a QF (2009). Honestly wouldn't consider her a threat especially considering she just withdrew from Birmingham

#Azarenka's body doesn't appear to be built for the rigors of professional tennis. She's never been injury-free long enough to be a consistent threat at the top. She very well could be the #ThomasJohansson of the women's game. #GirlBye

I am so happy that Kvitova got her seeding up to number 2. It's always nice when the 2 faves are on a collision course toward the final. Even if one of them plays poorly in the final, you know the other had a shot of taking it even on a good day. Hopefully they both make it to the end and put on a great show. I love watching both of them! 2 of my faves on my favorite surface! Hopefully Lisicki doesn't spoil the party (even though I like her too). The only interloper I want to see is Venus (at Petra's expense).

I am ridiculously excited and I think it's contagious. No lie: right now in my fridge there are strawberries and a carton of heavy cream that my wife picked up at the store yesterday. So, is thread too soon? No way!

I find is ironic you are tipping your hat to #PetraGirl, as though it is a given she makes it to the finals. Let's face it, she has never defeated #SerenaWilliams at Wimbledon and has benefitted from #Serena's early losses at #Wimbledon. Truth be told, I could see someone like #Maria taking her out. Looking at her grand slam history, she's not a lock for the finals. In fact, if she made it to the QF, it would be a good tournament for her. #GirlBye

She's very prone to losing in the first week. If she makes it through, however, she tends to then be locked in and I would definitely favor her to make the final. Her first few matches are a big IF though.

Yes she benefitted from Serena's early losses, as do most non Serena slam winners :) Still, she won 2011. 2012 was taken out by SW and never had a chance at the final. 2013 was a crappy year and a half for her. I don't feel like she had her head on straight. She won last year and seems to be back on track. She finally scored a win over Serena recently (not in a slam final, but still a confidence booster and it adds drama) and she has shown some fine form of late. Of course there's a chance either or both will get knocked out early, but I feel both are the players to beat and it's great they are guaranteed opposite halves of the draw. I'm happy the number two seed is a grass courter and not some clay lamb headed to the slaughter.

No way does Maria stand a better chance than Petra (2012 Olympics bring back any memories?). Maria did have success vs Serena there, but that was a long time ago...I think Maria's eventual win over (hopefully) geriatric Williams will happen on hard court (that has been the closest she's come in recent times...Serena has clobbered her on clay and grass).

Edit: just looked up proptosis. Lol you are so bad.

Why would Martina be seething? She'd still have 3 more Wimbledon titles even if Serena does win it again this year.

Oh, dear. You must be too young not to remember when #Navratilova played. You would understand if you knew how she operated. She was/is #VERY competitive.

Bump to get the correct Wimbeldon WTA thread up top.
#Djokovic2011's thread about #Novak in GM needs a bump too. I'm trying my best to minimally keep it on the first page. Any and all help would be appreciated. #GirlBye

Well, there's a first thing for everything dear. I don't see anyone having a prayer if Kvitova plays her A game

Tennis ain't usually about your A game, it's usually about having a B or C game to beat everybody else consistently and that is what she lacks.

I hope Jo Konta does really well at Wimbledon, she's been playing well in Eastbourne, pretty good game.

I agree 100% I really enjoyed watching her play in Eastbourne this week. She is playing like a top 20 player.
Her coming match with Belinda Bencic should be interesting

Martina knows she's not, hence her longstanding negative views about Graf. I maintain she appears so much not only because she respects Serena, but has a desire to keep herself "in the game" (so to speak) by being the retired legend who is at so many of Serena's ceremonies.
