Well, I remember how most of the people here said that Murray won against Berdych in the USO 12 semis because of the wind, and that in the AO 2015 he was going to get destroyed by the power of Berdych because the wind wasn't going to be there to help him.

He didn't need the wind to win 6-0 the 2nd set and then the match
Exactly.

Murray has won enough matches against Berdych since USO hurricane match to prove beyond doubt he doesn't need favourable conditions to beat the Czech. Vamos.

I still think that the ball stays lower on grass after the bounce compared to any other surface and it forces a player to bend his knees over and over again.
I don't know if the bounce has ever been consistent on the grass (now or 20-30 years ago) - do you have any info/data about it?

By the way, if the grass is much slower/high bouncing than in the first rounds, how did player like Sampras dominate the tournament anyway during 90s, when there was basically no grass on the court in the final stages of the tournament? And why was Federer beating Nadal in the Wimbledon finals, but losing on clay three weeks before that?

The grass is definitely more slippery in the first couple of rounds, but the difference is not as big as the common myth says, IMO.
The grass still bounces lower than clay/hard, but not as low as during the 90s and earlier. Players play with more spin today, so even if the surface had remained the same, the ball would have still bounced higher. The grass was changed in 2001/02 to a slower, higher bouncing one, and so did the balls (not sure about the exact year, but they are also slower than in early 90s).
Also, the difference between the first couple of rounds and semis/final is noticeable. The more grass there is, the lower the bounce, the more the ball skids etc.

I'm surprised they put this much in the day session, seems like a more exciting match on paper than Monfils v Raonic.

Ok I feel like placing a bet, but need to be almost certain that Murray will win. :) Does anyone think Ferrer realistically has any chance of beating Murray? Only thing worrying me about Murray is if he is "distracted" by the birth of his child.

Thought this was going to be the night match..

Hope I'm not too tired to see the entire match (but since I'm having a training session some hours before, I doubt it lol), here it's going to start around midnight, unless the 2 women matches are longer than expected... I'm sure that the Konta Zhang match will be a very long match:rolleyes:

This was scheduled as the day match

It's a digrace, an scandal...

Interesting that the organisers decided to schedule the 2 top 10 players for the daytime match and the 2 lower seeds for the night match.

I'm guessing that they think Raonic-Monfils will be more entertaining?

I hope Muray wins in three sets, spending as much less energy as possible so that he can take the servemachine fresh as a daisy

Murray has never expended little energy playing Ferrer.
Expect another hard rally fest with much energy expended.

It all depends on whether Murray 1.0 or Murray 2.0 is playing, if Murray 1.0 is playing Ferrer wins, if Murray 2.0 is playing Murray wins.

Cheers
3Fees :)

I expect the Muzziah to come through in straight sets. He also now knows for sure that he will face one of this tormenters in the AO final, should he get there, so I expect him to pick his game up.

Ferrer has had a good run, ending Hewitt's career and of course taking out Big John. I think Muzziah is one step too much this time.

This will be a break fest, however Murray will get this done in straights.

Ferrer just is not able to handle Murray even on clay these days

But what if Ferrer 1.0 shows up against Murray 1.0? ;)

How do you feel about his chances going forward? We agree that he should win today. In four sets? Can he get it done in three?

Monfils would be no problem in the semis. More likely, it'll be Raonic, who might be trickier. He should still win, though, right?

What about the final? Either way, it'll be against one of his recent bogeymen. Presumably, he'd prefer to play Federer. Agreed? But he'd probably be outsider against either man.

I don't know. I have the uneasy feeling that he is not able to focus with quite the same kind of intensity he showed at last year's event. The ongoing distraction of Kim's imminent labour hasn't been helped by the recent health scare with Kim's dad at the AO. He admitted after his match with Tomic that it had been a difficult couple of days for him. If he gets to the final, he will need every ounce of his focus and attention no matter whether he has to face Djoko or Fed. Will he be able to give it?

I think the scare won't have helped. Has Kim's dad returned to London or is he still in Melbourne? I'd have hoped that worrying about Kim's pregnancy might mean he wouldn't worry so much about the tennis. I guess we'll find out more tonight.

Isn't her due date Feb 4th? If so, there is a real chance he'll have to pull out. Although most first babies are late, not early.

I know it might sound strange, but Chris Evert (seven time French Open champion) once said that a long match on grass was more tougher on her physically than a long match on clay, because of all the bending and it exhausts the back and the knees a lot more than any other surface.

Yep. Because you have to get down lower to get a good swing. Milos's 1st surgery was after a major injury at Wimbledon.

Or you can play like Maria Sharapova, Juan Martin del Potro, and Lindsay Davenport, and just play one-strike tennis, hitting the ball as hard as you can and not bothering either to chase down or even to bend down to any balls that appear to you to be even remotely difficult to get to. You probably won't be as effective if you do this, but at least you won't get so tired.

I'm with you.

Got a feeling he'll lose to either Ferrer or Raonic.

Murray should win this, 3 or 5 sets whatever. but how much energy he has to spend to pass this tireless running rabbit.

These players play that way since they know they don't move well. It is harder mentally for any player who moves even somewhat well to accept that mindset, even if to conserve energy and a match they can be relatively safe playing this way.

So rigged scheduling I see. Organizers put this on in the day vs Raonic/Monfils? Clearly believe the faster conditions would help Murray... getting comps again!

Ferrer needs to try to find a way to get into forehand to forehand rallies with Murray. If he hits too many backhands he has no chance, but I think his forehand is definitely better than Murray's. Still won't be enough though.
