Khachanov makes the final with a tidy 3&5 win over Comrade Troicki. Climbs another 11 spots to NCH #70.

If he wins tomorrow, it will be consecutive weeks for post-'95ers with titles. The drought is over!

Just checked out his bio... some disturbing quotes from young Marat, I mean Karen:

"Hobbies include basketball, football, listening to music (hip-hop) and hanging out with friends
Favourite sports teams are Real Madrid (football), Miami Heat (basketball)
If he wasn’t a tennis player he would like to be a basketball player or a sports manager/agent"

Doesn't tennis have enough disgruntled hip-hop loving wannabe basketball players already? ;)

Zebra Bros facing off 1R Beijing!

Please NO!!!!!!!! :oops::eek::mad:

Edit: Just checked the draw... it is true. Crap luck for both :(

Grigolo the Artist in 3

The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttle among the nettles of the sage thicket as he rides off into the friscalating Manchurian dusklight. Vámonos, amigos!

Grigor Mortis was completely in control of the momentum at the start of this set and had a million breakpoints in the last game. Next game he gifts Ramos a breakpoint in return, and what do you come up with? Worst drop shot of all time. Like he suddenly didn't feel like playing no mo'.

2-1 Ramos, Come on Greg, you got this....

edit: apparently he broke his string in the point he hit the desperate dropper — partially excused Greg, partially excused.

My god, Ramos has been saving some of those break points like a true hero of the Reino de España. Saved 8/8 BPs in the deciding seto_O

Time is running out for Gricasso — but Greg is clearly fitter out there, maybe it'll prove a difference?

What's it now? 0/10 on BPs this set?

Travesty

Best Fed impersonation EVER.

Sets up yet another one — what will it be this time? YAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! 11th time lucky, mane.

I think it's a myth that Federer has the worst break point conversion rate. He's better than a few players, if that means anything.:D

Here we go again. Looks like Ramos is keen to expose "next gen" by beating Thiem and Dimitrov back-to-back. Similar to how Isner exposed "old gen" Raonic and Nishikori in Miami last year.:D

Well, let's look at the bright side, Grigs has made it to the 3rd round of his last 4 tournaments. He's building consistency

Yes he is, just still mentally out when things aren't going right. No positive thinking. If he can atleast win one indoor title(Stockholm or Basel) and finish the season inside the top 15 then I'm sure he can make it back into the top 10 before the Australian Open.

Am I the only one who thinks the main problem, aside from his head, is he lacks the firepower his game plan needs? He's an attacker but he can't attack. If you compare him to Federer at his age there's just an enormous difference in power, especially on the forehand. His only powerful shot seems to be the 1st serve or the occasional i/o forehand.

Khachanov and Ramos to clash for the title. Khachanov in his first ever ATP final while Ramos-Vinolas goes for his second title of the year. Let us hope it's a good one.

Congrats to Vinolas blnt Dimitrov

"Albert Ramos-Vinolas backed up his victory over top seed Dominic Thiem by advancing to his first ATP World Tour hard-court final at the Chengdu Open on Saturday.
The fifth-seeded Spaniard ousted third seed Grigor Dimitrov 7-6(6), 1-6, 7-6(3) in a titanic tussle lasting just under three hours. He will now face #NextGen star Karen Khachanov in the final.
Ramos-Vinolas is currently at a career-high No. 31 in the Emirates ATP Rankings and poised to crack the Top 30 after reaching his third ATP World Tour final. After finishing runner-up in the Casablanca final four years ago (l. to Andujar), Ramos-Vinolas lifted his first trophy earlier this year on clay in Bastad, defeating Fernando Verdasco."

Karen, who's quite possibly the best tennis player with the same name as my mum, rises 46 places to #55 with this win.

nextgen bitches!

Khachanov (who also shares his 1st name with my sister-in-law) joins the ever lengthening ranks of maiden title winners this year and is the 3rd Next Generation player to do so this year (following Kyrgios' win in Marseille and Zverev's win in St. Petersburg last week).

The Next Generation are beginning to stir at last!!

What a way to win your first ATP title, entering the tournament outside the top 100, then defeating seeded players in four of his five matches.

A week off now to enjoy this success, then hopefully back to work at the Shanghai qualies.

I'll try and go there to see him; hope the qualies schedule is out early enough on the website.

Greegor was very Fed like at the end as he went with conservative baseline game waiting for errors; instead he got some RV rockets and was done.

Well done by Khachanov. Couldn't find a picture with him and the trophy, but congrats to him. :)
