Really? That's a shame. She's the soul of this team.
And Strycova is the heart, Kvitova is the gut, Pliskova is the robotic architecture/control system, and Hredecka is ... the doubles player?

Edit: seriously, they are all good doubles players. I was just too busy to come up with one for Lucie H.

Mladenovic is fighting really, really hard. She's finding her best tennis when she needs it and dealing pretty well with all the pressure. However, Pliskova should have won this match already. Her serve is letting her down at crucial points and games.

Pliskova was up 5-2... now it is 8-8.

What a battle from Kiki. And Pliskova won't give up either. The women fight like hell.

dammit, double fault from Kiki. 15-30.

I don't want her to lose after battling back so courageously.

and 2mp......

Kiki held for 9-9 with aces.

But she is either cramping or injured. omg

Czech fans aren't happy. Sam Smith is saying that at this point in the match when it comes down to fitness, and your opponent is cramping because of the way you played, should she be allowed to get treatment.

Anyway, it is MTO. No end to the drama. :o

Damn, Mladenovic just won't give up! Cramping all over the place and she still won that game with 2mp against her. But Pliskova has to exploit this kind of games better. She should have won that last point, but she overcooked that forehand.

that was some of that improved Pliskova movement there to run down that forehand pass dtl when Kiki thought the point was over with the put away volley

Relief from Kiki after that Pliskova forehand just missed for 10-10.......

Pliskova overthought that overhead, thought too long about it.

bp. saved with overhead that time, nothing more Kiki could have done in that point.

forehand return winner from Kiki to save gamepoint, deuce.

Mauresmo nearly tearing her hair out with the tension.

11-10...... that bp that Pliskova saved so brilliantly was maybe the only chance for Kiki.

mad respect for both of them no matter how it ends. Who dares to say the WTA players are weak?

Poor Kvitova and Garcia will only play at midnight, seeing how this match is unraveling. :p

The French have the tradition of beating teams I like in Fed Cup/ Davis Cup finals (I'll never forget the Davis Cup final in 1996, just before Edberg retired, where Sweden lost 3-2 at home in a really close tie). I would therefore not be surprised if the Czechs collapsed under the pressure of the home crowd and their own mental fragility.

Or not... Mladenovic managed to break with all odds against her. Pliskova has to be kicking herself though.

No, no. Kvitova and Garcia still have a good chance of playing at midnight. But no one can say this match isn't interesting.

That Mladenovic Pliskova match was just insane.

5 years ago I used to joke about Mladenovic's tennis shoes made of stone, even if she had very good hands and volleys, now I think she has grown so much and has champion heart, although she lost today.

Both of them could do something big next year.

Saw the Garcia Kvitova HLs.

Kvitova is like Raonic. Both suffer from Legs-far-too-long.

After that epic fight from Kiki, I can think of quite a few ATP who should just hang their heads in shame and hide. Particularly a certain Nicholas K. I'm still amazed that even at the very end of the very end of the year after YEC and Elite, the women can still offer such a match.

Maybe they should rest Kiki for one of her two remaining matches? She still has to play doubles with Cornet.

Kiki will play doubles with Garcia, they're undefeated in Fed Cup play (not to mention Slam champs). Cornet will probably play singles in her spot tomorrow though.

What a pulsating match between Pliskova and Mladenovic, and I was delighted to see my favourite player Garcia beating Kvitova to level things up.

Hopefully she can continue that momentum and beat a surely jaded Pliskova in the 3rd rubber. I would much rather see France winning this title for the first time since 2003, than the Czech Republic winning their 5th title in 6 years (I generally find domination boring).

And now an exhausted Pliskova will lose to Garcia and a subpar Kvitova will be defeated by Mladenovic. How one match (Kvitova-Garcia, the one nobody talks about) has changed everything. Poor planning by the Czech team this time around. They probably thought they had this in the bag. The French are always dangerous in Fed Cup/Davis Cup.

But Mladenovic is also exhausted... On other hand, who knows which Kvitova's version will show up today. I don't think that match is a foregone conclusion at all.

The French just need one of the two singles anyway. Their doubles team is vastly superior. I still don't understand why Safarova isn't playing, she's a great Fed Cup player.

This is why I don't like team events sometimes. One player spills blood and sweat to put the team ahead, and then another comes and spoils the hardwork. Strycova would have been a better option than headcase Kvitova.

The French can replace Mladenovic with Cornet and save her for the doubles if they need to. Kvitova has been quite poor in Fed cup for a while now. It's Plikova who has been bailing them out.

this is like one of the best FEDcup matches ever. and IF Caroline Garcia play like this , she would be top 3 player. why doesnt' she play like this all the time ???

It took Cibulkova 7 years from her first slam SF in 2009 RG to get to where she is now, YEC champ at 27 years old. Garcia is four years younger than her.

And Kerber is 28...

I have thought for a long time Garcia (along with some other names now) will be an important player in the future, post Serena WTA. Let her game come together the way it naturally will.
