Nadal/Lopez up a DOUBLE break, 5-2. A game away from taking the first set, and then Nadal will be tantalisingly close to his 2nd ever gold medal.

Not only that - if they win, he'll be only the 4th in the Open Era to have gold in singles & doubles.

Venus, Serena .... I don't remember who the third person is.

Trying not to count chickens, though. Nobody here is playing to lose.

Nadal is going to get that ball nice and high to Del Potro's aching wrist, for at least 2 hours, until it gives way. The only thing Del Potro will be eating for breakfast is a bronze medal match.

Delpo's wrist is fine now or didn't you get the news? I hope this doubles match can last another hour so Nadal hurts a little.

Nah, Nadal is going to work Del Potro's wrist until it hurts again. That's what happens when you deal with the Nadal topspin forehand. Wouldn't be surprised if it resulted in another injury lay-off, but you've got to do what you've got to do when you're playing for an Olympic medal.

this team looks a little too strong for the Spaniards right now

weird there's only one big server on court in a doubles match, a final too

I am a Nadal Fan. But from what I have seen, Delpo is playing well. I would rather Nadal win ofcourse

Delpo is playing murderously well.

Also, as long as this doubs match is going, I'm not sure what Rafa will have left in the tank -- because of course he's giving everything.

Not going down the line when the opportunity presents itself must be a distinctly Spanish trait. You see it in Nadal, Ferrer and now Lopez.

Nadal/Lopez are not winning this, Tecau/Mergea are just too strong.

can't finesse your way too this...amazing Nadal and Lopez have done as well as they have w/o a big serve..Nadal would be part of a great doubles team if he could play Lopez' role and he had a big, preferably right-handed, server with him

way too experienced too, strategy-wise much better

That's game, set and match. Can't say the Spaniards don't deserve it. They had so many chances.
They did waste some of the chances but tons of those break points were saved by Mergea - that guy has ice in the veins.

I'm actually surprised he didn't pursuit a singles career - he has a very good serve and great forehand + he's not tall so he has room to improve his movement.

Yes, Nadal/Lopez won the first set on Nadal's reputation alone. You have to say that the Romanian team deserves this more.
