In what way could this win affect Nadal's performance against Del Potro?
a) I won the Gold so the pressure is off = I don't care if I lose
b) I won the Gold so the pressure is off = I'm swinging freely

No all this Olympics they have called the first player name depending on how the team is registered. In the last match the team name looked like Lopez/Nadal and the chair called them "Lopez" all throughout the match. Dunno how it got reversed this time around.
When they're serving, it's the server, not sure how it works when returning

Oh ****! A Nostradamus prediction. Rafa is definitely going to lose now!
there is NO way Juan can beat Rafa tomorrow. Rafa's forehand will penetratate Juan's backhand. and Juan won't be able to run around the backhand because RAFA's forehand cross court is lefty crosscourt

Such a weak era, smh. Where average play wins. Wouldn't go down in the 90s.

NADAL wins gold in men's doubles here in Rio.

Nadal is now the most successful male tennis Olympian on tour, with gold medals in both singles AND doubles.

Sorry you are wrong....short guy actually kept them in the match and won the 2nd set for them. he just choked in last 2 points, that is all.

I cant argue on the second set, barely watched it, you might have a point. He was a mess in 3rd set for sure, had plently of UEs, especially how many balls he hit long. I thought the tall guy was more clinical there. If you dont see it let's agree to disagree then.

Yeah third set he blew it. When serving up a break he fell apart and then in the last game with the overheads he fell apart again.

Was a bit surprised they were playing the gold medal match tonight. I thought they would only be at semi stage and the final would be tomorrow. Seemed to come a bit early!

However, congrats to Nadal and Lopez! Nadal now joins Nicolas Massu with a gold in both singles and doubles, the only 2 men to achieve this in Olympic tennis!!

Spare a thought for the Romanians though. A break in the decider and they couldn't close it out. Have a feeling letting this one slip is going to haunt them for some time to come!

There's Nicolas Massu though, though he'd have to get 4th in singles to not exceed him

Bravo goes right off the air, no anthems or interviews...tennis gets a lot of that treatment

We should all write in :D

It worked when they hadn't planned to broadcast Federer-Wawa v. Lopez-Nadal (NOW ALSO OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALISTS IN DOUBLES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH) at IW, and then they did.

he is the Greatest of all ever at Lobbing............

Wow. Really, you thought that? (not being sarcastic, genuine appreciation if you observed that)..

I honestly found most doubles players very comfortable with lobbing, more than any singles player, bar may be Murray.

I said i would not watch this but severe humidity has curtailed my outdoor activities so I am now somewhat enthralled.

Never got why Olympics organizers had to cram everything like this. Zero respect for tennis players or what. Could have spread out things a little bit. So much action packed nights for fans, but not good for players.
