2016 Race To London!

As of today we have
1. Novak Djokovic
2. Andy Murray
3. Milos Raonic
4. Roberto Bautista Agut
5. Roger Federer
6. Dominic Thiem
7. Kei Nishikori
8. David Ferrer

Strong starts to the season for RBA, Raonic and Thiem. Pretty sure RBA will drop out but hopefully Thiem or Raonic can shake things up a bit.

On a side note, when do ranking points start for the race? I thought it was just the first tournament of the year, but Murray's total confused me, as of now Andy has 1475 points when the only 2016 tournament he has participated in was the Australian Open where he received 1200 points, how does he have another 275 points?

I still think Nadal should rise above Federer and Wawrinka by end of 2016.

In the grand scheme of thing, Nadal is doing fine, making #5 after just 1 year after 7+ month injury break.

I think Novak already qualified by winning slam, unless he completely losses his form and crash out of top 20 .

All slam winners automatically qualify regardless of rank
Even they are ranked outside 20? Slam winners gets extra leeway till 20th rank while normal player cut-off is till 8th rank, but I am not sure regarding rules.

I thought it was no matter what, but perhaps not. I imagine it would be pretty tough to finish outside of the top 20 while having the 2000 points from a slam.

A player with 2000 points right now would be ranked 16th.

Is this trolling?

Nadal is playing like a top 50 player.

Total garbage for his standards.

I agree he is playing like a top 50 player at the moment but that does not mean he is top 50.
I believe he will recover. there are ups and downs in comeback trail. my guess is he is digesting mental blow from early exit from AO.

He is in a slump he never had in his life. Note that this guy became one of top players at 18 and won French Open at debut.
He never had this kind of difficulties in his life...

which is why we got the gaudio disaster in 04 and the cilic disaster in 14. I hate that rule. If you win a slam and STILL can't be in the top 8 you really don't deserve to be in.

Gaudio bumping out Agassi or Nalbandian was atrocious. At least with Cilic everyone else sucked besides Fed and Djoker so what is one more garbage player going to change?

Sorry, since I started to like Nadal, but he is done.
He played like this for over a year now without any signs of improvement.

People keep saying he will recover and even threaten Djokovic in Roland Garros.
Even Federer would beat him there right now.

It's a shame to observe since he used to be such a fascinating player.

yep, it's possible he is done and many people(and so called experts) says so.

i just think it is too early to call. top players often need 2-3 years after such a long breaks with a string of injuries.
for example, Agassi dropped to world #100-200, crawling back up from challenger tour, took him 2-3 years to win slams again.
recently former top 10 Almagro, had injury break similar time as nadal, dropped to ~#120, came back from challenger tour from 2015, now at about #50 maybe?

#5 after 1 year and 2 months is very positive. no matter what people say about it. it is a great achievement already, whether he ends up winning slam or not, IMHO.

Well, Agassi's case was totally different, Almagro's level was never even close to Nadal's.

I don't think you can compare such things.
Roger needed only a few months after 2013, Murray approx a year, but Nadal's play is getting even worse.

That match against Cuevas was painful to watch.

I'd love to see another serious challenger to Djokovic, but it won't be Nadal.
