Muller wins 6/3 6/4. Great serving display. Baggy quite mentally fragile, more-so than usual...

Great servers do like to frustrate their opponents though. Fun to watch.

Its very hot. Can the Guru handle the heat and the Simon game plan in these conditions?

It's gonna be tough, that's for sure. Both at different parts in their career right now though, so I think Monfils may get his 2nd win.
3-0 Guru. Guru not having anything to do with grinding so far. Though Simon might cause some overheating for Monfils given the hot conditions, but not happening so far.

Karlovic vs Tipsarevic next. Tipsa retired against Gasquet the other day. We'll see how his form is. Supposedly he played well in R1.

Great return from Tipsa right at Ivo's feet, and the ball sits up nicely for him. Mini break for 3-2.

Hands it back with a DF.....

Netted backhand from Tipsa, and Ivo has 2 SPs. Tipsa saves one.

Tipsa with the 2nd serve return winner. Mishit return, and Tipsa raises his hands in apology. 6-6.

Ivo goes really big on the 2nd serve, and DFs. Tipsa has SP at 7-6.

Big 2nd serve return from Ivo, and forces the error. 7-7.

8-7, Tipsa.

Two brilliant 1st serves, and Ivo has SP at 9-8.

Saved with a good approach and volley. 9-9.

Ivo with the slice approach, piling on the pressure. SP Ivo.

Big serve, and Ivo has the 1st set. Nothing in it really.

Ivo has the mini break! 5-3.

Wow, amazing return from Tipsa, Ivo volleys the ball into the open court, and Tipsa comes up with the forehand pass. 5-5.

MP Ivo.

Tipsa nets the forehand from the forecourt, and the match is over. Thank God.

With a title here, Karlovic would have a career best season at 37 ! :)

Top 20 is pretty much his best season, already ( except the relative brief stay at #14).

I think he has a chance to break that career high ranking at 37 this year or 38 early next year.

considering average age of top 25 players is around ~31 (last time i checked), that is actually not too old these days.
Agassi stayed around when he was 10+ year older than top players of that time.

Age is not a factor when you are Ivo "MommaLikesIt" Slowovic.

how come slow serve and volleyers retired so early in 80s and 90s?

(but not in 50s - 70s.)
They didn't have the Twitter to spur them on to greatness in the twilight of their careers...Ivo is 34-23 since he sledged back after his Veselectomy at USO'15 with two titles and a final this summer.

A couple of poor errors from Goffin, and Sousa has 2 BPs. Sousa not having to do much to break serve. Backhand long, and Sousa breaks for 2-0.

30-30 here, after a well struck forehand return winner.

Great serve out wide from Sousa, gets the short angled cross-court return, and he rolls it dtl for the winner.

Holds on for 4-1.
