Got a strong feeling this one's going Richie's way! ;)
He really doesn't seem like a top 10 player to me yet easy tournament draws like this help secure his ranking. Don't get me wrong when he plays well he's top 10 for sure but it's just annoying that he could win back to back titles this early in the year simply because the competition is unbelievably lacking. I mean NO top 10 players for an ATP500? As it stands Gasquet is at 11th but could get to 10th if he wins Montpellier. Still, only one top 10 player at this tournament is horrendous, especially as the top seed is 10th!
Meanwhile Buenos Aires has 3 top 10 players as an ATP250. How did the Rotterdam organisers screw up so bad?

Although taking a look at Memphis and currently says that the number 8th seed is Damir Dzumhur who is 79th in the world?? http://www.memphisopen.com/players/?intloc=headernav
Seriosuly, are all the players super busy this week? Is some big ATP player getting married? You know somethings wrong when an ATP500 has no top 10 players and Memphis has seeded players ranked in the 70s!

Gasquet is currently ranked #10, not #11, so he will be representing the top 10 at this year's event following Federer's withdrawal. Surprising that neither of last year's finalists, Wawrinka and Berdych are showing up. As top seed, Gasquet has to be the favourite.

Sorry, my post was poorly worded. In the live rankings Gasquet is 11th, if he loses in the semifinal to Brown he'll drop to 11th in the world (failing to defend his Montpellier title), if he reaches the final of Montpellier he'll stay in the top 10.
Gasquet would be the favorite for sure. He's sure picking up on the points he missed out on in January when he was injured.

Chung faces GGL in the first round. Dangerous opponent. He could've drawn worse but I can easily see GGL beating Chung on a good day. Second round is Troicki. Also very tough to beat obviously, but it's the lowest seed he could've faced.

Gasquet has a tough 1R vs Chardy. Their QF in Stockholm'15 went to a decisive 3rd set TB. H2H is 3-0 for Ricky, all on HC with a TB in each to RG.

The lack of some dominant players would make this a nightmare for the prediction and power leagues. Those possible QFs all look great with the possible exception of Gasquet Troicki, but Troicki seems to be in strong form so not bad. Diaper dandees Chung and Zverev have good draws.

Nadal, Ferrer, and Tsonga are all getting a jump on the clay season in Buenos Aires this week. Every one wants a piece of Nadal these days (Thiem). Between these two tournaments and Fritz having a wild card in Memphis (potential Millman clash ;)) next week may be pretty awesome stuff.

Qualifiers in the draw and really quite a few nice first round matches Monday:
Rosol v Vesely - competitive
Mahut v Gabashvilli - ditto
Coric v De Bakker - will Borna get back on track

Other first rounders of interest:
Gasquet v Chardy
Chung v G Lopez (diaper dandy!)
Robredo v Klizan (evenly matched)
Sousa v RBA (both on a roll)
Monfils vs Gulbis (INSANE MATCH)
Zverev vs Pospisil (diaper dandy!)

Some other nice matchups and despite the abscence of elite of the game, Rotterdam has an excellent, deep draw.

First ATP500 event of the year. Who are the guys who historically do pretty well at this event? I notice Berdych has a title and final appearance at the last 2 tournaments but he's not playing. Also see Cilic was a finalist two years ago.

RBA is doing insanely well. He's ranked 5th in the race rankings! Wouldn't be surprised if he ends the season close to the top 10. His career is an enigma to me. He was always ranked out of the top 100 until a couple of years ago when he suddenly surged into the top 20. Has a very distinctive technique as well.

Man, I hope Chung can keep it together this year. I can see him breaking the top 40 but I can also see him having a terrible year and going into the low top 100s. Hasn't won a match this season.. bad start :(

Sousa has had RBA's number in '15, both at the money end of tourneys and the most recent (Valencia) in the final on indoor HC. A true test for this momentum RBA has developed.

:(
What is more interesting is that he was 1 weapon and everything else is bad.
His forehand is a killer when on,he can easily hit it through the court. I remember when he took a set of good playing Djokovic in US last year.

Istomin is playing Cilic much closer than I expected...lost the first set TB and on serve early in the second. Dominant serving from both with zero BPs so far.

Jinx post, sorta...Istomin now 6 for 6 saving BPs but still on serve. Cilic still cruising on his own serve.

So are you going to sneak into the tournament one day? For this one the early days look best so you can see all the players. After being barely impressed, now on the Zverev train before it departs the station. (I don't blame you if you don't go out of your way to watch Chung lose again.;))

I respect RBA. He's been as high as ten and plays well on hard and clay (Ferrer disciple.) He looks like a guy hitting balls down at the local muni courts; not an athlete. So, I respect what he's done with his physical limitations. Has a flatter style then Ferrer so the rallies aren't quite as tiresome (to watch.) I think RBA's form looks very solid, but now you've got me wanting to look for quirks.
