Zverev is playing so consistent from the base line while going for the lines pretty often. He'd be creaming anyone not named Simon/Ferrer.

It just dawned on me (I guess I haven't been paying too much attention) but what the heck happened to Gasquet? I thought he was supposed to be playing?

And Zverev wins. Man, from what I have heard it was a great match. Good win for Alex. Right up there for his best win so far.
Hopefully he is fit enough against clown tomorrow
Zverev best win easily. Simon had him on the ropes tired and cramping. Zverev was so smart to limp over and get a new racquet between games to buy time. He pushed the rules beautifully and Simon was not happy. The next two changeovers the cramp treatments went a few seconds too long and somehow Zverev was able to get his legs back in time. Simon blinked in the tie-breaker against the constant pressure of the young German (Russian). Incredible match savvy and toughness.

Monfils will be an extreme challenge with his excellent ability to get first serves back into play and cover the court. Hopefully Sascha recovers enough for his match toughness to prevail over the often erratic Monfils. What a tournament! Zverev climbs to 55 in the live atp rankings.

More diaper dandy action from Memphis today where the amazing Fritz will take on #2 seed Steve Johnson.

A guess, but winning the previous tournament might have put his back under some duress so wisely pulled out.

I like fritz hopefully he can challenge johnson :)

Looks like Mahut is having his one good tournament of the year early. This time it's in Rotterdam, he's up 6-2 5-0 against 8th seeded Troicki
That was awesome. Always liked Mahut. Never liked Troicki. Nice way to start the day

Brilliance or tactical Troicki tank? I didn't see the match but, if you take away Troicki's five aces, he won just 39% of his service points.

Why would he tank? I suspect he was just tired and it was one match too far, so he couldn't fight. Mahut is dangerous on fastish surfaces.

I don't think he's flashy or particularly inconsistent. I just think that he's a player who's been really harmed by the slow conditions of the era. He's very dangerous on fast surfaces, but not very effectual on slow ones. All five of his career finals have been on grass. It surprises me he's never made an indoor final, but some of the indoor hard courts are pretty slow these days. Like Michael Llodra or Feliciano Lopez, he could have done much more in the 1990s than he has done.

Klizan's drop shot is fantastic, but he just uses it too much. It is like seasoning spices, using correctly you cook tasty food. If you put too much, it will do harm than good.
The other too many drop shot player is Janowitz.
