After a huge win over Nadal, Lucas Pouille heads into his second slam QF. Two frenchmen, but only one match between them. Monfils won at the Australian Open in 2015 6-7, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4. Both players are probably happy with the results of the tourney so far. But a great opportunity for either to reach the semi.

If that's all Monfils could do against Pouille in early 2015, he's in serious trouble for this match. Pouille was off the radar until March when he started winning.

Poll please.:D

Thanks, knew I forgot something. Good year for you so far with Pouille and Thiem. Surely you could sacrifice Dominic for Delpo tomorrow?

The Professor is 12-0 in sets and has played 50 less games than the battle-scarred Pouille (12-7 in sets). Logic say Le Pitre should roll. There is nothing logical about USO'16 at the Henry Heimlich Tennis Center.

Pouille in 5 so all match polls in the future must have that as an option, non?

I think Guru wins this. Then gives Novak a great lesson in the semis, while Delpo battles Murray.
Novak will be perfectly prepared for number 13

I think Gael is better rested and focused. So I think he takes this in 4 sets, but who knows Lucas could win in 5 again. This is a harder one to call then the others.

Pouille was probably first on the radar in 2013/14 vs Fed at Paris

He was inconsistent until this year for sure but did give a lot of the top guys trouble on occasion.

Pouille in 4 learns from le monf and wins New York in straight sets in the SF and F, it is certain

I'd certainly heard of him and probably caught parts of one of his matches early this year and he was very incosistent. He could hit big, but lots of errors and wasn't stringing together any great play. Since Miami of this year he's having a lot of success and beating top 20 tennis players.

Hope Pouille doesn't crap out like he did against Berdy at Wimbledon. I'd love to see him collide with Djokovic in the semi.

That was Bercy'14 when he upset Ivo and Fognini to face Rogi in R16 and lost 4&4.

I remember the Ivo upset because he knocked me out of SDL league along with a whole boatload of others. The scoreline was 6-1 6-4...serving a breadstick to Ivo indoors is pretty big stuff. The previous year at Bercy, PH Herbert also caused an even bigger bloodbath by beating Benoit Balls on Day 1. Lesson learned...never take an opponent of a young French WC at Bercy. Also, never take Paire!

Talk Tennis Guru
Is Guru utterly sick and tired of the young generation's complete failures to absorb his teachings or will he take mercy on Lucas and give the conqueror of his most devoted student a chance to learn?

...and "Pouille in 5" shall replace "Conners in 5" :)

Their lone meeting and The Professor prevailed in five, coming back from two sets down. This time, White Smoke (tm) does not let him off the hook!
Sorry to tell you this mate but you're wrong again with the prediction.
The white chicken will be lucky to steal a set.

Monfils in 3. Pouille did extremely well to beat Nadal, but I think Monfils is another story. Monfils seems to be in a good form.

Allez Gael!
Va-z'y, fonce! Ouiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!

Pollle hits the ball too flat.... too LOW of margin for errors. he will make 156 errors today and Monfils will move on.

Am not so sure - he will be forced to play agressive tennis to have a chance to win ... which was successful in the end against a superior version of Monfils in the last round...

Monfils winning feels like the most inevitable thing of the tournament so far. Won't be unhappy, but always nice to see the 90s kids doing some good work.

LOL,,,superior version of monfils ?? monfils would have beaten rafa in 3 easy sets with that wrist injury. Poille got lucky and played injured RAFA
