No White Smoke (tm) today...must come back to AO'17 before the white smoke of a new Pope wafts from the chimney of The Vatican.:(

In a way, today could be a blessing in disguise for Pouille. If he uses this experience to push his training to Murray-like levels, it could very well push him into the top 5. But that is a big IF.

Seems like Pouille will be on track with Murray if he does this.

Yeah, Top players gets the reward for what they are. But let's assume Monfils played a 5 setter against Nadal that lasted 4 hours in the previous round. Do you think he would have had a fair shot against Pouille? I don't think so. Also Monfils is not defeating Nadal in straight sets. But I get your point though. Hopefully, Pouille moves up in the ranking and gets a fair draw in the future.

Both Monfils and Pouille are very fit, so I don't think one five setter alone would make the difference. It's the two in a row that makes it very difficult for Pouille, and the three in a row that pretty much kills it. I think the same would be true for Monfils. If both were fresh, it'd be a close match, but I think that Monfils isn't just more complete than Pouille at this stage but also on better form. Pouille played his way into form as the tournament went on, but it was pretty ropy by his standards until the closing stages of the RBA match. He did well to make the quarter-finals while not on particularly good form.

Wha...what is Brad Gilbert wearing? Why does he do these things? Lol. He refuses to accept that he is not a young person anymore! Act your age, man! Between that silly hipster trilby hat and the fist bumps....Good grief!

Huge congrats to Gael on reaching his 1st USO semifinal, and without dropping a set no less!

Disappointing for Lucas but it's been a breakthrough tournament for him and his match against Nadal was one of the best of the year. I've no doubt we'll be seeing much more of him in the near future. :)

Be afraid. Be very afraid. The Guru has decided to teach the field a thing or two.

super happy for monfils. i am so impressed with what he's done this whole summer. he seems so friggin' chill . . . but i wonder if he has some real inner confidence about what he can do in this tourney?

great tourney for pouille. i watched part of all of all his matches. showed lots . . . LOTS of heart (and skilled play, naturally). he came back from the dead against nadal. i hope it springboards him for next year.

bring on the next match!! oh wait . . . i gotta wait like 5 hours??? doh!

It was a 5 setter when these both played last year at AO. I did not remember it was Pouille until recently.
So I am sure it would have been close. Also Monfils is in a purple patch since Citi Open winning 19 out of 21 matches until now.
He lost one to Novak and then another one to mini-Novak in which he had 3 MPs but choked at the end.
He has a slim chance in the Semis if he faces Novak. Let's hope for a Miracle. :D

Little P got trashed. Partly because he exhausted himself rushing to net on his cute little legs for a hundred consecutive sets and partly because, no, P is not morphing into instant GOAT in front of our very eyes like some Nadal fans desperate to blame another premature exit from a slam on something else than himself had the nerve to argue with a straight face ;)

I think Pouille has some good weapons and good presence. I think he has had a good tournament. I am not going any farther than that. We have too many over-hyped bodies on the TTW bandwagon already.

TTW is notorius for hyping guys as the next big thing simply because they catch a top-10 win (against a guy who had a bad day) in a slam.
