The most nerve-shattering final in some time, but my kerber predictions aside, Serena's game was beyond amazing. Anyone who dares to say she does not know the entire court does not know professional tennis at all.

She's a legend who just tied Steffi Graf's majors count, and now has seven Wimbledon titles. A historic day for the sport, and perhaps the most memorable of the year--even with the U.S. Open in the not too distant future.

Also congratz to Kerber, she's a fighter and can counter Serena's game pretty well (except for the big first serves :), but which woman can return those anyway)

I'd say Kerber played as well as she did in AO final. Any other opponent, up to AO final Serena, she would have beaten. Serena though played a perfect match. I knew she would bring it, I just didn't anticipate how Angie would also bring it, proving AO was no fluke.

Everyone, move @gambitt up on your prayer list. All that butthurt is killing him. The doctors say there is nothing they can do for him. I'm also thinking about starting a gofundme page for him. Together we can beat butthurt.

Don't forget Azarenka. If she comes back strong after injury for the US series, then with Kerber and Muguruza, the US Open could be a wide open field.
Yeah Azarenka has gone under the radar but I'm 99% sure she'll be back. Wouldn't surprise me if she even won the US.

I think she'll take USO now. The mental barrier has been broken.

She finally got there

Wonderful.

I hope we see more finals between these two. Great tennis and great respect. :) (source)

Yes, they do have respect for each other, and acted like true champions. Angelique making it to her second majors final this year is not fluke. Expect her to hold the hardware above her head in years to come. She is no joke.

I don't think either GS champion this year is a joke. Angie just backed up her AO win big time, and I fully expect Garbi to pick up more GSs in the future.

To be honest, if you have Serena, Kerber, Azarenka and Muguruza all playing at 90%+, that's pretty strong. Looking forward to the Olympics (has anyone pulled out on the women's side yet?) and the US.

Serena took a "big step" on the the tennis ladder of the greatest women's player in history today! Congrat to Serena! It was a tough milestone to conquer but finally achieved! One more and she will be the one! Margaret Court holds the record I believe!

And that's great. I'm ready for a competitive, tough USO. Azra and Serena's matches there have been amazing.

Setting my own pro-Serena biases aside, this has been a great GS year. Amazing performance by Angie in AO, amazing performance by Garbi in FO, and now amazing performance by Serena in W. All memorable and well deserved.

Thanks. I know what would really help, but I can't really say on the forum. I think she's probably around my age. Could you ask her for me? I'm not far from London. I'll make it quick, I need those special pills to keep him at attention if you know what I mean.
I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about. Probably a symptom of butthurt. But, don't worry. You'll be in our - all of our - prayers. Stay strong brother. You'll beat this. You'll beat butthurt! :D

Goodness, some people here are just vile. Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on how to put someone on ignore list? I don't mind people who don't like Serena, but some of these hating posts are just beyond the pale.

EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out.

Why are you still living in the past? She's obviously improved herself, atoned for her mistakes, and made it a point not to display such behaviors anymore. You act as if she should forever live as some pariah for war crimes. She's a human being that can display a wild assortment of behavior and contrary to popular belief no lives were lost. This was an awesome match.

Who are HIS favorites? Probably Cheaterpova and Nadal, or maybe the always-classy-in-defeat Radwanska.

Yaaaaaassss!!! Well Serena was the female GOAT for me years ago. THis is just icing on the cake.

How about Kerber though? She played amazingly well. didn't know she was capable of playing like that. Congrats to her. I think her and Muguruza are capable of at least 5 majors each. I'm so glad Serena held her nerves this time, unlike AO and FO this year.

I missed the whole first set, how did it go?

First set was fantastic. Amazing, unbelievable performance from both. Angie got a little tight while serving to stay in the set, but one can't blame her - she was playing for her life from the getgo, knowing a small slip up against a dialed in Serena would be the end of the match. I credit her for hanging in there as long as she did.

Good match by both players, congrats to Serena. Boy, what a serve to count on in the crucial moments. That was yet again a difference maker for her.
Kerber got a bit tight and overhit one game each set – and that was all Serena needed to pound and finish her off.

Thanks! Wow, I really need to watch the whole first set later tonight. Yeah, Just saw some stats and Serena hit like 39 winners with 11 aces the for whole match?:)

I haven't studied the stats yet, but she was close to 90 percent on both first and second serve. Brutal.

It was my opinion from the beginning that this was her match to win or lose, depending on two things: (1) nerves and (2) serve. And both were there. And god knows she needed both against a fantastic Angie, who really reached the height of defensive game in this match.

As I say, despite the fact that she lost, she really did back up that AO win today. I was so unimpressed after her match with Vee, but I stand corrected now.
