And then they say she has nothing but brute power. Oh, how wrong they are. Serena does homework, yes she does.

Yes, but to those who actually watched her matches, instead of investing in blood hatred like certain TW members in and out of this thread, they knew what you do--that she's a strong, gifted all court player with success in singles and doubles most can only dream of matching.

Agreed.

It's sad people put her down like they do. Not just because it doesn't do her justice, but it doesn't do justice to players who have to go up against her.

Serena finally joins Steffi Graf with 22 Slam titles, the most of any woman player in the Open Era and 2 behind Margaret Court overall. She also ties Graf with 7 Wimbledon titles, second only to Martina Navratilova in the Open Era and joint 3rd overall behind Navratilova (9) and Helen Wills Moody (8). This was her 3rd consecutive Slam final in 2016 and the only one she has won.

This was the 2nd Slam final in 2016 and first Wimbledon final for Angelique Kerber and the 2nd time she and Serena have faced off against each other in Slam finals this year. They are now 1-1 in Slam finals played against each other. She is the 7th first time finalist at Wimbledon in the last 6 years and the 2nd German player after Sabine Lisicki in 2013 to make the final since Steffi Graf's last appearance in 1999.

First time WTA finalists at Wimbledon since 2009:

1. 2010 Vera Zvonareva (lost to Serena Williams).
2. 2011 Petra Kvitova (beat Maria Sharapova).
3. 2012 Agnieszka Radwanska (lost to Serena Williams)
4. 2013 Sabine Lisicki (lost to Marion Bartoli who was a 2007 finalist).
5. 2014 Eugenie Bouchard (lost to Petra Kvitova).
6. 2015 Garbine Muguruza (lost to Serena Williams)
7. 2016 Angelique Kerber (lost to Serena Williams).

Who are HIS favorites? Probably Cheaterpova and Nadal, or maybe the always-classy-in-defeat Radwanska.

Ah yes, the pissy Radwanska, who cannot understand that playing like a tactically challenged park-goer on a weekend does not lead to a majors victory, and Maria? As all see, tennis has great matches and not a soul misses her presence.

I could name 5 TW members who are boiling mad over both players failing and/or being banned for illegal drugs, but i'll leave others to guess their identities.

Lol. Why would I be on suicide watch? I'm one of the biggest Serena fans on the forum!

Do you even know what suicide watch means, or did you recently see someone else use it and think "Oh, that sounds funny.I think I'll use it"?
Serena fans? Do you mean Serena bandwagoner

It's true. Maria wasn't mentioned much this tournament. Looking at how well Kerber and Garbi are playing these days, Maria will have to really step up her game IF she makes an attempt at a comeback. Problem is, Maria has tried to step up her game for 12 years and it never made a dent in Serena. I don't see how she'd be able to compete with these other rising players.

Yes, she was not mentioned much--by pundits who had to accept the colossal fall / scandal of their prize player. The rest of the tour does not appear to miss her, either.

I just realised that Serena won today after losing the first two GS finals of the season so maybe that's a good omen for Murray tomorrow? ;)

One small criticism, in view of how the tournament turned out, and, again, Serena is my favorite WTA player of all time: her execution of the drop shots, and choice of time when to hit one, was less than stellar, lol. I must have exclaimed 10 times during the fortnight, "Wtf was THAT?!?!" But that's kinda like Pancho Gonzalez(who apparently threw compliments around like manhole covers), when asked to name Laver's weaknesses, deadpanning, "His overhead on a bouncing sitter is a little weak.":p:cool:

That's strange, I knew the rule used to be that you couldn't cross the back line with either foot until the ball was struck; I thought that rule was done away with in the 1940s, but looking at that picture of Pancho serving, it's clear he's keeping his right foot anchored and the left doesn't go over the imaginary back line until the serve is struck. Amazing that there were so many serve and volley guys, but I've seen some Don Budge films, and they used to kind of amble up to the net in those days, lol...

We've got a pattern of Serena making the slam finals and her opponent bringing the goods for a great match (AO/RG/Wim)

Serena vs Azarenka for the USO final 2016. :D

I'd like to see a Serena v. Muguruza rematch at USO final this year.

on USO hard court, I wouldn't choose Muguruza for Serena's opponent at the moment. Serena's best opponent there is still best Aza. If not Aza, Kerber.

Hell yeah :D
On a side note, Kerber is awesome. I love her game and her personality and attitude, she'd make an awesome next #1 if she can keep being consistent.

Unfortunately neither is likeable from Kerber, you should check her hand shake when she lost a match especially after she was upset by a lower ranked player. Kerber currently owns the crown of the sore loser hand shake at WTA.

The second half your statement points to a well-worn, eternally false narrative used by certain TW members to attack Serena and the WTA overall: if--as the WTA abusers say--the competition is "weak," "inconsistent" (and just how consistent are the ATP players not named Djokovic?), then they will use that lie in a daily, failed attempt to downgrade Serena's legendary achievements. Thankfully, true historians are not playing that game, and that burns those who live to hate a player, or an entire tour. If you notice, most of the usual suspects are absent from this Wimbledon Ladies' Final thread. You know the reason why: if they cannot spew hatred and myths (fearing their common dance with the ban), then they are nowhere to be seen,

They can attack Serena all they want...but in the end, her greatness will silence them all.

Erm, how about the player that won the Men's Championship earlier today?

You will note the post you quoted predated the Murray victory, but the point still stands--Djokovic has been the only consistent ATP player at the majors in recent years, because until today, the last time Murray won a major was 2013. WTA players--under the same circumstances--are attacked as being members of a weak era, inconsistent, etc.

haha, for a 90% ATP forum, Serena and Kerber got more posts than Ray the Flying Squirrel and Larry the LumberJack! Even with all their double posts too.

Well, you didn't mention anything about winning majors which isn't really what being consistent is about anyway. The fact remains that between winning Wimbledon in 2013 and this year, Murray had reached three other Slam finals as well as three semifinals. Apart from Serena, which other player on the WTA has had anywhere near that level of consistency in recent times?

I don't venture into ATP threads nearly as much, but, yes, I find it obnoxious when people put down either of those three. Weak era arguments make me cringe in general.

As one example of a tendency I particularly dislike,a lot of people seem to be inclined to denigrate (or extol) GS wins depending on the resume of the victor's opponent in the finals. For me, by contrast, it's all about the level of play the opponent shows that day. If the opponent plays an unbelievable, high-level match, the match of his/her life, then the win over that person is impressive no matter what else they do or don't do for the rest of their career.

I've seen people lol at having to beat Soderling in a GS final (when discussing Fed). All because he was 27th in the world and not a multiGS champion. That he played out of his skin, put in an incredible performance, is apparently irrelevant. Much better to have had someone with multiple GSs even if he completely tanked that day, of course. Stupid.

Mug field much like the mens. Bunch of talentless, choking bums
I thought kerber was such a great returner. Mug can't even get a 35 year olds serve back
Kerber would bagel Serena if her ROS wasn't so crappy. Serena can't hang in rallies anymore
Too fat and slow She's nothing but a serve anymore
Hahaha good match. Low standards I guess
Serena is an embarrassment and utter JOKE to our country
Uhhhh useless. Sickening. Horrible field. No talent, no desire, no mental toughness, no confidence
It's kinda what happens when you have the mind of the 13 year old that ditched education to go play pro tennis at that age.
Hah, yes, "professional" like sulking during a press conferences because "you guys are not making this super fun for me".
If I saw a heavyweight boxer beating up a bantamweight I wouldn't really call it "success".

You two humps should eat each other.

Slowly.
